Yeh that's what I thought Uncle Cracker but the Vale said the league told them it starts from this season because they didn't notify club of the change at the start of last season...

There wasn't a Champion of Champions when this was initiated back in 1984.
It was the same year that the SAASL Saturday Divisions began.
Should have had a 25th. Anniversary for the Saturday SAASL league last year ?

Agreed... but everyone should know at the start how it is.

Was any clubs notified of the change? we weren't!

Yeah thats crap the Cichanowski sheild has always been the winner of the Sunday League Div.1 v the Cup winners...

This Champion of Champions game is played after the season finishes & not really sure how serious some teams have been taking this game in the last few years...

Should be Vale v Gardens....
We are Liverpool Football Club and the expectations are so high.

That's a interesting point Bodø & I agreed with you at first but then after thinking about it... The Cichanowski Shield first started in 1984 the same year as 1st Division Saturday, this has been a Sunday League for 44 yrs. Tradition & History why change it after 25 years?

Why start a saturday league in the first place? You can always ask questions but things do change and as the saturday league has become bigger there's no reason why they can't have some representation in it, especially after seeing off their sunday oponents in the CofC match. Saturday team participate in the cup. I guess some people would have made an issue of that the first time they did, but now everyone accepts it.

I think the Cup winners V Champion of Champions. If Vale had won that then they would be in it. Fairest way for all teams

Then we could let the masters & women play as well...

They'd want representation in it as well why have those leagues & not let them be involved?

Saturday League is involved & has been "from the start" through the Cup!

Why change it 25 yrs latter.

I didn't hear anyone saying vale would have won if they tried, being a vale lad we were dissappointed that we lost, because of the fact we didn't take it seriously enough, we wish we did because it would have made for a much better match, believe me mate vale don't like losing especially the way we did, and why wait so long to change the cichanowski cup, is it because a saturday finally won the cofc.

The way it was if the Saturday Teams were good enough they could of been playing in the Chicko if they won the cup. It also gave the lower Div clubs like when the Grove won the cup a chance to play against a div 1 side. The lads I have spoken to would of watched the Vale and Parafield but they wont be travelling to watch a glorified trial game and that is a shame because it will rob Parafield of a chance to make some serious bucks. I suppose if you sook long enough things will get changed. The standard of game in the Champion of Champions is not a patch on a good cup tie or league game..Will be the only time in my life I hope Parafield win something..
There is no I in team, but there is a u in suck...

firstly i can see both sidfes of the ledger here, but from the vales point of view it this game shld be gdns v vale as stated its been lge winners(sun) v cup winners for so long. Now i dont hav a problem with changing it but do so b4 the season or champions game has been played not after the game reason being tht as much as u give an effort ur preparation is not the same as if u no uve got to win the game.I think its fair to say tht teams in the past while happy to win the coc game the main prize is the lge and the party for a month afterwards therefore the rite to play in the chiko shield. And billynomates to suggest the vale r being like 7 yr olds prob says more about ur mentality then ours as the vale dont make excuses for losing!!!

Goodluck to all teams in all divs both sat and sun lge.Remember do whts rite for the game not ur own club.
