"OFFICIAL" MATCH BALLS FOR THE SAASL IN 2009?

Post by Love_the_game »

Hello everyone. I hear that Reebok are the official supplyer of balls in 2009. I have search far and wide for the type of ball that has been selected, and where to find them. I just hope that they are better than the IDM balls, which where terrible. If these balls are bad, i suggest that each and every club discusses the matter with the referee's. In 2008, every single ref I spoke with was happy for us to use balls (of our choice) as long as the opposition agreed on the type of ball, and as long as we kicked of with the official ball; ie as soon as the ball first goes out of play it was swapped for one of ours. We aim to use a better ball (say the 2006 world cup balls, which sell for under $80 these days), especially if the reebok ones are as shit as the IDM balls. Am I alone on this, or did others find the same problem with the IDM's last year? They lasted one game before becoming egged, and hence were a complete waist of money. If the new balls are just as bad i invite you all to write in to the league and complain. I certainly will. my aim is not to cause trouble, but i think that we deserve the use of good (lasting) footballs (irrespective of how much money changes hands in order to endorse the company).

Firstly however, where can we purchase them?

Cheers

Chris

The IDM balls were better for keepers as they didn't move around as much in the air. I can really only remember one shot swerving in the whole season last year apart from when it hit the Westies pitch.

They were a terrible ball to kick in general, worst I can remember using (and that includes cheap training balls).

The 2007 season match balls were pretty good. Although they were much lighter than the usual training balls and this was shown when players over-kicked early on in matches, particularly corners and long balls.

The 2006 Match ball was the polyeurethane umbro ball. They were superb, while the 2007 were the errea, which were also fantastic. It just angers me that the SAAL recieves a relatively small amount of money ($10k) from the particular company (be it Umbro, IDM, Reebok or whoever) to endorse (force upon us) a particular ball-type. Therefore, dont be scared to use your own preferred match ball as long as you clear it with the ref and opposition team.

From where did you get your referees then? SAASRA referees were instructed to ensure the IDM balls were used because of the sponsorship etc and if they were not used, to report it on the match sheet. Personally, I thought the IDM balls were cr@p.

I thought the IDM balls were good for that first game but its a big expense to use a new ball every week. Refs aren't stupid they see the same balls every week and make the same conclusions players do, common sense prevails and balls are changed, no need to name referees who let us play with other balls.
On a side not has anyone got any of the Reebok balls yet??? are they any good? i dont think ive ever used a Reebok balls, oh and how do we inflate these balls? Reebok pumps!! SWEET

but he's on the money. A ball is a fucking ball, it's the same for both sides. We had no problem with oursand in fact there is one of them in my back garden that I have been kicking around with the kids all summer. Some people are obviously rubbish footballers and need an excue to not be able to kick straight.

yep! sack the previous coach and committee members for locking up the storeroom and leaving the ground before all kit was put away. I should be commended for saving club property and charge you rent for the summer.

the ball used last year were below par, so instead of doing nothing the supplier actually persude the problems with the manufacturer and have actually produced better balls and equipment. so they didnt sit by and let the situation get worse, by the end of last year they had already had new and better balls. i no its a lot of money to by brand new balls with a few games left.
i have been training with the balls this year and they are one of the better balls i have trained with, only had one game so far so not sure about the match ball.

i raised this on a previous forum topic about the ball situation and people did comment about the improvement from earlyer in the season last year

I know a lot of you just want to just on and give ppl shit and pretend to be fantastic footballers, but the original topic was about balls lasting more than a game not about being good footballers.
Nugget at least be a little intelligent about fishing, put in a smart comment that causes reaction not just a blatant pay out. Its fishing when you do it smartly not by being a twat. Then that dude who sucks your cock can back you up.

All of us had to used the same balls last season! because the league negotiated a deal with IDM & good on them!

We only used the IDM ball when we were made too once I think because they were sh*t! so our sh*t ball lasted...

This year theyv'e negotiated a deal & changed to Reebok & you muppets are still going on about last years sh*t balls ? :clown:

& you talk about fishing & making intelligent comments ?

I'll give you a clue..... buy one reebok ball, if its good use it! if it's not the don't & dont buy any more!
