Swansong do you know if any other team has conceded only or less then 3 goals in one season?swannsong wrote:As I said previously, he was usually a key player in what were usually very strong Inter sides.robinfriday10 wrote:bit harsh! conceding three goals in one season says he wasnt a bad sweeper regardless of how he went about his job.
Having Tissy Simeoni, Dino Gallina, Jimmy Townley and Stu Tyerman in defence would have helped in only conceding 3 goals. Not forgetting how strong Gerry Petitt was on having a solid defence.

Re: Who is Amateurs leagues greatest ever players
I would throw in Peter King but he has played to many Fed games.
From what I have seen in the last few years, Bert Fuda would definately be up there. Chris Nicholls from the Vale, Aitken from East, Eggers from West, Billy K from Pontians, Russell Hunt from USC Lion and Chris Ennis from Ingle Farm. I've only seen Div 1 in the last 3 years though. What about Arthur Dalkeis (?) from Inter.

Ingle Farm Reserves in 2004, conceded only 2 goals, I think Richard Bales was the goalkeeper...over to you Jay, Robbo ?on the side wrote:swannsong do you know if any other team has conceded only or less then 3 goals in one season?swannsong wrote:

Re: Who is Amateurs leagues greatest ever players
Yeah in that season is was actually Colin Smith who was the Keeper. Richard took the first team job off of him. David Howell was the Sweeper and the cause of both goals which I remind him of constantly. A young Paul Townsend even played a few games in that B's side. I think Steve Patterson was our leading goal scorer. The real reason for the success though was the brilliance of the captain that yeah. Inspirational by all accounts. Went on to lead the team to the double in 2006swannsong wrote:Ingle Farm Reserves in 2004, conceded only 2 goals, I think Richard Bales was the goalkeeper...over to you Jay, Robbo ?on the side wrote:swannsong do you know if any other team has conceded only or less then 3 goals in one season?swannsong wrote:

Did Steve Patterson play last year Jay? Remember hanging out with him and Sam McMillan down the Farm years ago!
Re: Who is Amateurs leagues greatest ever players
Very hard with so many quality players that have played Amateurs, but definatley Ray Coull would have to be up at the pointy end....
Re: Who is Amateurs leagues greatest ever players
I cant believe none of you guys have mentioned Tony Scalzi. He is a true champion. In 2005 he won Sunday div 1 best and fairest and in 06 after missing 1/3 of the season away at the world cup in Germany he came second only missing out by a couple of votes on a second and consecutive B&F. He also has state team amatuer caps to his name and believe he has been carving it up the last couple of years in the Saturday leagues after A.Villa swaped to the Saturday divisions. He has been a key to Adelaide Villas success and has definately been one of the modern day greats.

Played quite a bit of Feds beforehand didn't he, the original post says less than 50 Fed games.a1079978 wrote:I cant believe none of you guys have mentioned Tony Scalzi. He is a true champion. Define the best?? What position? What Year??
Frankie Day, Dino Galina, Anton Antonoff, Larry Moore, Jimmy Townley, Gerry Pettit, Scotty McNarlin, Roger Nicholls, Earl Pudler, Robbie Winter as you can tell I watched alot of Inters games as a youngster.
Then in my timeframe: Bert Fuda, Daniel Nicholls, Chris Nichols, Matt Blackwood, Jurek Kozicki, Chris Ennis, Eric Ainsworth,
The list could go on

What about Alan Royhouse. From memory he made the Australian Amateur side. As a 17 year old playing next to him was a great learning experience

Bert, Danny, Chris, Matty and Chris all would of played to many Fed games to qualify. Not sure about Eric or Jurek.Left Right Out wrote:Define the best?? What position? What Year??

I wouldn't put Jurek up there simply because he doesn't play enough of a season due to injury. Certainly had the potential to be a great player.

Jurek would be one of those players who COULD be one of the best players I agree. He plays alot of his games without getting out of second gear and still manages to win his position BUT can I say he also cleans up and fixes alot of Golders mistakes at Gardens!!!Jay Walking wrote:Bert, Danny, Chris, Matty and Chris all would of played to many Fed games to qualify. He has won a few club B&F's plus the league B&F. Not a bad record but would of played to many Fed games to qualify also.tickets4cheese wrote:redders wrote:David Eggers springs to mind
