So it would take one italian coach could make AU better than Millwall, so you admit they are not as good as Millwall at the moment.
What has capello and England got to do with the lower leagues of English football? :? Oh yeah, it's to try and deflect from the fact you make yourself look silly.
Gamba? I pointed out Antler are better side, fact you didn't respond to.
England rankings v Australia, agreed too, but highlighted how Millwall just don't rate fact you didn't respond to. My Japanese friends tell me lots about AU nothing about Millwall. Man U bandwagoners tell me about AU on their website never hear about Millwall though
Players leaving A league for Championship, pointed out how it's a team game. Maradona would have looked crap in the Championship, no point being a football player when it's flying over your head for 80 minutes. Any decent Australian would leave for Holland, Germany, Balkans, Greece and Italy. May have but wouldn't know if it was from the a-league, MSL or lower leagues. However a-league did provide players to a world cup squad how many did Millwall offer to the last world cup?
Lost me on "When was the last time you beat MV?" lost me with the you, MV have never played Inter.
Capello reference was just another poke about the English being unable to manage sides to play winning football, any Itie coach would be able to defend against the caveman tactic of hoof it long.
The FA have come to terms with the fact the English now sweet F**K All about Football, why else the love affair for foreign coaches, only third world football nations go that path. They've known this for years why else do you think they named themselves the FA! Too good for the world cup

Can you name an English man who has coached a club to a premier league victory? My kids have never seen it! Has anyone?!?!
Going by YOUR definition of nationality Vidmar qualifies as an Italian.

It's a world game so Europe is only worth 20% max
Never heard them come up in Spanish or Italian reports. Not sure about the other 45 countries. How could you prove it?

Re: Which English division is equal to the A-League?
we have endured mid-table mediocrety in league one for a few seasons now, so it would be fair to say that oldham are a good representation of the standard of that div.
i know i am biased here, but i honestly think that after watching both leagues live plenty of times, not just on tv, oldham would annihilate a mediocre a-league team. the level of skill across the whole squad, (eg first touches and the quality of delivery into the box) is clearly a cut above, just to watch latics warming up is awesome. but the nail has been hit on the head already in this thread: the pace and physicality of the english game is also streets ahead, (and that is only because the a-league is refereed like netball) making it hard to compare both leagues as a whole.
the a-league's standard has improved since its inception no doubt, but it remains rife with schoolboy errors when compared to div 1. the amount of times simple crosses go out for goal kicks, (which are then allowed to bounce in the middle of the park) and possession forfeited is alarming. sure it has flashes of brilliance and a few players here and there that can cut it in the english league, but it is all too few and far between. on the whole, the standard is poor.
now i did see rochdale vs bury at spotland.... that's more like the a-league!!
i know there will be those now that disagree, argue and rant, but that's my 2c worth and i'm standing by it!![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Have you ever thought that maybe people in EUROPE know about Millwall more because Millwall is a EUROPEAN club and Adelaide United isn't? Just a thought.a_mac wrote:I would just like to point out, in Europe people know about Millwall & not AU.

Neither Millwall or AU come close to those clubs but seriously, windups aside, AU would not beat Millwall. The a-league's greatest strength is the physical side to the game and Millwall would run them over both on and off the field in that department.
Re: Which English division is equal to the A-League?
It's not completely correct to say Muscat came from Millwall as an average player to one of the best in the A-leauge, as he was playing in the Championship with Millwall, not league 1 as they currently are. Even then, having seen a couple league 1 games last year, when Millwall were at the opposite end of the table, he wouldn't have alot to do. Just compete for the ball and send it wide or forward. It was alot more physical than the A-league, so I would back an A-league team competent at keeping possesion to challenge a league 1 side on their day.

6m market cap?!? The stock market rates your whole club at 6m?!?! Squad assets and all? I reckon it wont be long and Nick Bianco will have more against AU on his books

But it proves my point.

Have to agree with Bodo when he mentioned the conference leagues Blue Sq north Or south for that matter. There would be teams in those leagues that would give adelaide united a right pasting.Blyth,Chasetown and Havant & Waterlooville just to name a few.I know Aldershot Town would give them a football lesson. ![Shocked ](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)

Re: Which English division is equal to the A-League?
Having just watched one of the top clubs in the Championship this morning I think some of the people on here are gilding the lily when it comes to the lower leagues in England, there were plenty of missed crosses, bad control of the ball , poor tackles, and generally quite an average game all round. Just a tip try watching these games with the sound turned off and focus on what actually happens. I am not saying AUFC are world beaters but meethinks the rose coloured glasses are a bit too thick.
I have been to EPL, Championship games, League 1 and 2 games and I still say that AUFC would sit comfortably in League 1

i was talking about the comparison between the two leagues, not really individual teams. i know league one isn't champagne football, (god knows what that means on the filter) and there are errors during games, but the level of football played is definitely higher than the a league. if you want to look at individual teams, how many of au's players could cut it in league 1? half? on the other hand, au could buy almost any player from league one and they would be confident in their ability to stand up in the a-league.
leicester, milton keynes and peterborough would wipe the floor with any a-league side, and i don't know how an a-league squad would go playing on average 50 games a season.
individual teams aside, the a- league doesn't have the physicality, the skill level and strength of competition across the whole league to compare to league 1.
as far as adelaide united are concerned, after their acl and world club cup experience, maybe they could survive in league one, with a larger squad and some woolly gloves for the trip to boundary park!
