Newcastle winger Charles N'Zogbia has admitted Arsenal would be his first-choice destination, if he was to leave St James's Park, even though he claims Aston Villa and Tottenham are leading the chase for his signature.
The 22-year-old has said that both Spurs and Aston Villa have already contacted his representatives as to his availability, but has suggested he is keeping his hopes up that Arsenal could signal their interest during the January transfer window.
"My agents are talking with Tottenham and Aston Villa," he told L'Equipe. "I'm waiting to see what will happen.
"From what they have told me, Arsenal could also be in the frame, but there hasn't been a direct approach from them.
"Personally, I have a little preference for the Gunners but, whatever happens, they are three great and ambitious clubs. It's very flattering to see them interested in me."
The Frenchman has made no secret of the fact he wants to move on and remains confident Newcastle will grant him his wish of seeking a fresh challenge.
A move to a Premier League rival appears to be N'Zogbia's most likely route out of St James', but a move back home is also an attractive alternative.
"I've spoken to my bosses at the club. They know what my aims are and what I want to continue to progress," N'Zogbia said.
"As soon as a big club knocks on the door with a good offer, I don't think they'll prevent me leaving.
"A return to France is not unforeseeable. But personally I have always said that my priority is to remain in England.
"It's a league which I take pleasure from and which suits me well.
"Anyway, a return to France is not relevant because none of those clubs have contacted me."
N'Zogbia has spent four years at Newcastle, having joined from Le Havre in 2004, but the player, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or full-back, is hopeful a fresh move would aid his chances of breaking into the France squad.
"I am 22," he said. "It's an age where I have to be seen, especially with regards to aims that I have targeted for myself.
"I want to get into the France team as soon as possible and I feel that at Newcastle, that won't be possible."
agree and i'd take N'Zogbia in a heartbeatpires7 wrote:good work by Gareth Southgate, Downing can leave, but not to an average club like Tottenham
Wenger says Eduardo is 'available to play'
Friday 9 January 2009
Arsène Wenger says that Eduardo is now fully fit after suffering a horrific broken leg at Birmingham last February.
"Eduardo is fit now and available to play," Wenger told Arsenal TV Online. "Of course he lacks competition and you can't put him into a Premier League game at the moment. But I have been impressed with his performances in training this week."
However, Wenger is cautious about setting a date for Eduardo's return to first-team action.
"We will see how he develops now," said Wenger. "Everybody is so impatient with him. You know that [the] most difficult part for a player when he has been out for so long is for him to be patient enough to be competitive at the top level. They feel they are ready but you know they are not quite ready.
"Let's not rush it too much. He has played 45 minutes after nine months out so that means he is not ready to play in the Premier League just yet."

Highlighted some interesting parts.Andrei Arshavin an Arsenal target as Arsene Wenger looks to add quality
09 Jan 2009
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger remains interested in signing Andriy Arshavin, the Zenit St Petersburg forward, though he preferred to play a straight bat when questioned about the Russian, available for £20 million.
“The situation from our perspective is to keep everything secret and quite and not to talk too much,” said Wenger.
“Tactically the selling club is always more interested to getting things public than the buying club. I cannot confirm or deny anything.
“It’s like every January: in December everybody becomes absolutely agitated, but so far we are seeing what we see every year, there are very few moves. If you understand the financial situation you understand why most clubs are very quiet.
“Nothing is missing from our squad but you always want to add some quality to what you have. I believe we are a bit short number wise.
“But we have enough quality. We have a squad of quality and we want always to improve that kind of quality.”
The Frenchman is refusing to panic despite the fact that he is down to four fit mainstream defenders for Saturday’s Premier League visit of Bolton.
And Wenger insists that he will not be bringing a new defender to the Emirates Stadium.
Wenger confirmed that central defender William Gallas is out for up to four weeks, while Mikael Silvestre, another defender, will be missing for three weeks.
However, with Kolo Toure returning, following a groin strain, and Gael Clichy available after recovering a calf and shin problem, the Arsenal manager insists that he is confident he has a defence capable of coping with Bolton
“We have four defenders of quality for tomorrow. Gallas and Silvestre are out, but we are happy with what we have.”
Wenger has been linked with a move for former defender Matthew Upson, now at West Ham, and while he admitted he admired the player, he insisted he would not be moving for the England defender.
“I like him personally but again I wouldn’t like to come out on that. We are not looking to buy defensive side.”

Sebastian Battaglia
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger is to step up his bid to sign Boca Juniors hardman Sebastian Battaglia.
The £4million-rated Argentine midfield ace, 28, voted Boca’s best player in a poll, is a ball winner and just the man to perk up the Gunners midfield.
His agent confirmed interest from a London club, plus two from Italy.

Scott Parker
Sport.co.uk sources have revealed that Arsene Wenger has contacted West Ham regarding the availability of Scott Parker. The midfielder has been linked with a £12 million move to Manchester City and Tottenham following West Ham's financial crisis.
However Wenger has earmarked Parker as the perfect acquisition being both value for money and eligible for the Champions League, while also possesing valuable experience in the Premier League and Europe for Chelsea.
Arsene Wenger moved for Parker when he was at Charlton however Chelsea outbid the Gunners to secure the England international's signature. The Arsenal boss could even launch a two pronged attack on the Hammers by also bidding for former stopper Mathew Upson.
Speculation has been growing in the press for months regarding the future of Mathew Upson, with Arsene Wenger admitting he never wanted to sell the centre half.
Wenger said before Arsenal's game at Upton Park: "He is one of the players that I would have loved to hang on to,"
"If you take the players in the Premier League who have been educated here there are plenty of them. Steve Sidwell, David Bentley, Fabrice Muamba, Matthew Upson... but at some stage if you don’t play them you have to let them go.'
"What is important is that they make a career. Upson has made a fantastic career and I knew he was at the age where I had to give it to him or let him go.'
"I felt he had, for a very tall guy, quick feet, good pace, a good left foot, a good long ball and he was good in the air. For a centre back that is not bad. He was good on the ball and that is why I am not surprised he has made a good career."

Andrei Arshavin goes 'on strike' after Arsenal bid rejected
MOSCOW, January 13 (RIA Novosti) - Zenit St. Petersburg forward Andrei Arshavin has refused to join the side at its pre-season camp in the United Arab Emirates, the Sovetski Sport paper said on Tuesday, citing a source close to the player.
"The St. Petersburg forward called the trainer and said that he would not go to the first pre-season camp in the UAE if he was not sold to a foreign club," the paper said.
Arshavin, 27, was linked with a number of clubs, including Barcelona and Tottenham, in the summer after leading Russia to the semifinals of Euro 2008. However, Gazprom-controlled Zenit subsequently turned down a number of offers, reportedly in excess of $30 million, for the player as "too low."
The club is however believed to have since lowered its minimum price for the player to 18 million euros ($23.8 million).
Zenit recently turned down a $15 million bid, plus a possible $5 million at a later date, for Arshavin from English side Arsenal. The British Sunday Mirror paper also reported at the weekend that Manchester City had agreed a deal to sign the forward. There has been no further news on this possible development, however.
Arshavin has made no secret of his desire to quit his hometown club, and announced last year that if he was not allowed to leave in the winter transfer window then he would remain a Zenit player "on paper only." There are less than three weeks left until the end of the transfer window.
The forward came was named 11th best player in the world by FIFA in its World Player of the Year awards on Monday in Zurich. The title went to Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo.
