Re: Which English division is equal to the A-League?
Having just seen some top of the table league 2 games I think it is difficult to compare the standard.Bomber wrote:Top end of League 2 at present. But so may variables!
The English lower leagues are very physical, much more than here. Often strikers/defenders are big and very capable in the air & with a physical contest. Many goals come from continual aerial bombardment & opportunistic strikes (ie good finishing & fast breaks). No risk/no nonsense defending. A lot of pressure put on the player with the ball, middle of the park becomes difficult to find space so need to move it on quickly. Technically you still need to be good, bad first touch you get hammered as challenges come in fast.
The game here is more possession orientated with more running at players with the ball, less pressure on player with ball, tends to be a bit more space for players to operate in. I guess probably more to do with the various influences on the A-League (more varying nationality of players). Whilst there have been some good finishing at times I still think that it is what lets this league down compared to say the English lower leagues. Overall the pace of the game is much slower. Skill level looks higher but that could be more down to having more time on the ball.
There are exceptions as some of the players in the A-League have played in the lower leagues in England.

I would put them around the middle of League 1 , one off games can always be misleading , but it would be fascinating to see an A-League team compete in another competition , can Frank Lowy arrange this ... ?

What league are Millwall in, whatever that is, Adelaide would do it eeeeeeasy. Would even make the dopey Neantherals chasing at AU shadows.

Note: I have not even commented on this thread!! (well i have now). A lot of people seem to be saying League One/League Two. Seeing as we're up the top of League One, I'll leave you with the opinion of the masses!Translator wrote:What league are Millwall in, whatever that is, Adelaide would do it eeeeeeasy. You let others speak for you?!?! And Australians at that
I'd rather the opinion of

Now go back to being happy about being the biggest small club after all even Adelaide Utd can make the above list so I suppose they're a bigger club than Millwall.

As for that list, it can be proved as mockery in 2 words - Gamba Osaka.Translator wrote:You let others speak for you?!?! And Australians at that

I'll let anyone who speaks sense, speak for me. My only requirement for this action is the people have a brain to see things from both sides. Some appear to have this, others can't see the wood for the trees.

Gamba are currently 8th in the J league, granted they may have beaten AU but AU had previously knocked off Kashima Antlers in the 1/4's who currently sit 1st in the J-league.
Tables are conducted on consolidation of points not one off results
Who are Millwall again?

Are you really that insecure about Millwall being better than AU that you have to fire up? deep down maybe you know you're protesting TOO much.Translator wrote:Gamba are currently 8th in the J league, granted they may have beaten AU but AU had previously knocked off Kashima Antlers in the 1/4's who currently sit 1st in the J-league.

You've played Gamba 3 times and never even looked like scoring, let alone winning. When was the last time you beat MV? Where are they on the list?
Muscat - released by Millwall - probably the best player in the A League
Reid - Released by Brighton - one of AU better players
How many players have left the A League and gone to a club higher than the Championship, and these are your best players. Come on! Take of the rose tinted glasses.

Seeing as rankings seem to mean so much to you, I'll just ask you to look at the FIFA rankings on that one.Translator wrote:pfft as tight as Australia v England in EnglandmanU4life wrote:yeh the list doesnt really mean anything. one things for sure though....if melb or adelaide were to play millwall, posh, oldham or even doncaster at a neutral venue maybe in dubai or something....itd be a interesting tight game

Just in case you don't realise at those smaller clubs football is a team game, it's how you put the players together and the way you play that matters, as poor as AU are you only need one Italian coach to make them better than Millwall. Just look at what Capello could do with the unco national team you support.

Fair point but at least AU & Australia rank, can't say the same for MillwallHawkesy wrote:Seeing as rankings seem to mean so much to you, I'll just ask you to look at the FIFA rankings on that one.Translator wrote:

Keep pulling the tail and it keeps biting, I'd call this a run might have to flick over the bait runner.

I'm not even that much of an Adelaide United fan and I can admit that they are better than the Millwall scum.

So it would take one italian coach could make AU better than Millwall, so you admit they are not as good as Millwall at the moment.
What has capello and England got to do with the lower leagues of English football? :? Oh yeah, it's to try and deflect from the fact you make yourself look silly.

Benito Carbone came here and took the piss before going back to Serie C2 and not exactly racking up the goals.
A-league = Serie D
