Liverpool's defence
What is Liverpool's strongest defence?
They have:
RB: Arbeloa, Degen, Carragher.
CB: Carragher, Agger, Skrtel, Hyypia.
LB: Agger, Insua, Aurelio, Dossena.
Personally I think it's:
-Arbeloa--Carragher--Skrtel--Agger-
This gives Agger more freedom to attack (as we know he loves to) and allows Skrtel a place as well. Carragher cannot be dropped at the present time, and Arbeloa has made that RB position his own.

Re: Liverpool's defence
yeah i agree with that but for the future they should look to sign a new left back, a replacement for Carragher (partner Skrtel and Agger in CB)

Re: Liverpool's defence
Yeah I like Insua as well, but as it is I feel that the only way to incorporate Carragher, Agger and Skrtel into the same team is by playing Agger at LB.povman1964 wrote:I don't dislike Insua at LB, he is finding his feet ...
In a few years time I don't doubt that our defence will be:
-Arbeloa--Skrtel--Agger--Insua-
Re: Liverpool's defence
Agger at left back over actual left backs?!?! Granted Auerlio and Dossena aren't that good, but 6'5 monsters get destroyed by quick tricky winger time and time again. Do you now think about team balance when and just pick who ever sounds good?!?! Ridiculous.Gerrard_of_SA wrote:What is Liverpool's strongest defence?

Arbeloa - Carraher - Agger - Insua
thats the best and most balanced defence going forward. If need be, Carra to right back and Skrtel/Hypia in... Dossena as back-up and thats it. Its not rocket science...

arbeloa - agger - skrtel - insua
carragher isn't a fullback, shouldn't just fit him in because he's been an epic defender for us
our best defence doesn't include carra

Re: Liverpool's defence
cant have agger as a full back, he isnt quick or nimble enough. at the moment agger is the one that needs to be left out. yeah he is good going forward and hits some great passes, but he consistantly gets beat in the air and looks to lack defensive concentration at times. no doubting we need to hold onto him and he is the man to take carraghers spot when he moves on, but at the moment it should be arbeloa, carragher, skretel, and insua deserves his spot at left back when he comes back from under 20 duties with argentina.

Present:
-Arbeloa--Carragher--Agger--Insua-
Future:
-Arbeloa--Skrtel--Agger--Insua-
Agger is the best partner for Carragher, therefore he gets the nod ahead of Skrtel right now.

So Agger may not be a conventional LB...Riera doesn't seem like a conventional winger, given his height, yet he still makes 'conventional' fullbacks look silly.LFTWNG11 wrote:Agger at left back over actual left backs?!?! You can't write a player off in a position just by how they look. I say give Agger a few games at LB whilst Insua is away with international duty, see how he goes.

why should agger play ahead of skrtel? atleast skrtel plays as a cb not a fricken Center attacking back. Don't get me wrong i do rate agger i just feel that martin skrtel is the better defencive player, i do however feel that agger would be better suited as a lb, this position would give him more freedom to move forward, then again ive also felt he would be a fairly decent cdm. tbh its not a bad position to be in having to argue over which world class prospect we place in the central back position next to cara, one of the best cbs in europe.

I agree Carragher better in the middle, overlapping not his strength.Gerrard_of_SA wrote:What is Liverpool's strongest defence?

Re: Liverpool's defence
Depends who we are playing. It pays to have Sami in the team against the likes of Bolton, but not Man Utd. Fast forwards are not great with Sami and Jamie together, but Sami is still great for the more physical matches.

It's a great position to be in..Arguing over whether to partner Jamie Carragher with Martin Skrtel or Daniel Agger. However, Agger is the better partner for Carragher. As somebody earlier said: "It's our most balanced defence going forward". You can make the argument that defenders aren't meant to go forward (like you basically did by calling Agger a CAB), but the fact is that defenders must begin the teams attacks. And there is no better ball playing CB than Agger.
With Agger and Carragher in the team you have the attacking qualities, long passing abilities, aerial threat and vision of Agger, plus the rock in defence that is Carragher.

we are talking about Liverpool's defence and you bring Riera into the equation?!?! Either way your argument is a bit silly, Riera is the same height as Cristiano Ronaldo. Being 6"1 and athletic is a bit different to being a 6'5 monster. Monsters get drilled on the wings cos smaller, more athletic/nimbler will make slower, more cumbersome players look stupid and beat them everytime.
Last I looked our defence has been great with Insua at left back... so why all of sudden change something that is working?
Its like your argument agaisnt Kuyt, you want to leave him out of the side but he has been fantastic this season and we win with him in the wide. It's all about balance, not who is your favourite player so lets change the whole team around so everyone you like is in the first 11.
Re: Liverpool's defence
Insua's going to be away for a while now, so we have to change it for at least a little while..whether that means Aurelio comes in at LB or something else..LFTWNG11 wrote:Gerrard_of_SA wrote:So Agger may not be a conventional LB...Riera doesn't seem like a conventional winger, given his height, yet he still makes 'conventional' fullbacks look silly.LFTWNG11 wrote:

Re: Liverpool's defence
And how can anyone say
Aurelio isn't good? He is very tidy, just isn't fit for long enough.Granted Auerlio and Dossena aren't that good
Re: Liverpool's defence
IMO Aurelio is alright..He's just very injury prone. I'd feel much better having Aurelio at LB than Dossena, but I'd rather see Insua play week in, week out to gain experience. Whilst Insua is away though, I hope Aurelio takes over at LB, because Dossena is quite frankly a liability when on the field.e-football wrote:And how can anyone sayAurelio isn't good? Not really, Agger is much better than Skrtel
Re: Liverpool's defence
so u say Aurelio is good enough, but then go on to say he is injured all the time so he can't get into his stride. sort of proves my point...e-football wrote:And how can anyone sayAurelio isn't good? He is very tidy, just isn't fit for long enough.Granted Auerlio and Dossena aren't that good
anyone who says Agger to left back is what Liverpool should be doing is ignorant, and thank god Rafa is in charge at Pool, cause it will never happen. Agger is a world class centre back, play him there.
