we should have had a younger, quicker squad...all the other teaams did
ange was very good when she came on! prolly our best
donna was good too
this is my point mistake by number 11 cost us the first goal. i dont understand when a player is good enough to play for australia under 17s yet cant get a full game with the bottom team in the league, as i said before and ill say it again no 11 is to fricken slow, the amount of room perth had in the midfield cause how slow number 11 was is a problem, i thought number 12 fought her bottom off in the midfield. number 10 hoggs the ball to much and always tries to take on the defenders,
this a sore point for me, as a keeper of 30 years you dont warm up a keeper by the subs cracking shots at you, this is were the coach needs shagging, when number 14 came on she played well...last but not least i thought our number 2 was bog, our keepers need a lot of work, crossing etc and the way there were warmed up , we will not get bums on seats if we keep playing the way we played, we went to the kick and hope style again, things can only improve, get a coach that understands the womans game, and trust me it is different to the mens game,in closing we need to sign local players that can train with the team every session, that is called team building
Agree 100%! How is it that women's soccer people are not involved with the team? Not good enough or politics?? Will it be the same with state teams too now?
I know the Fulham coach was there, but what is his job?
Perth Glory has kept its slim finals hopes alive with a convincing 3-1 W-League victory against Adelaide United at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday.
After a 0-0 first half, the floodgates opened with the Glory scoring three before the Reds bobbed up with a consolation goal during injury time.
The early stalemate was broken by Marianna Tabain in the 51st minute. Tabain charged towards goal and found a way through a few United defenders to put the ball in the right hand corner of the net.
Collette McCallum had threatened to score during the first half but had to wait until the 71st minute before being gifted her first goal.
Reds goalkeeper Sian McLaren came off her line and tried to draw a player by holding onto the ball with her foot just inside the box. But she was pressured by her opponent and lost possession, allowing McCallum to swoop and send the ball into an open penalty area.
McCallum was also involved in the team’s final score with her short but smart cross giving Elisa D’Ovidio the space she needed to drill one from near the spot.
It was another disappointing Hindmarsh Stadium fade-out for the home side but the last-gasp goal from Sandra Scalzi, who swooped on a Donna Cockayne pass, did lift their spirits.
The visitors’ rebounding run and more organised attacking game made them deserved winners but the Reds had their fair share of the ball.
United were dangerous in the second half with Cockayne denied success a number of times by the Glory goalkeeper.
The Glory now has 10 competition points and is just two points behind fourth place. United remains anchored on the bottom of the ladder after taking just one point from their last six games.
It wasn’t the most attractive opening to the contest with both sides struggling to maintain possession once they tried to press beyond the midfield.
The Reds eventually settled and were starting to knock the ball around but it was the Glory’s forays into attack which threatened to break the game open.
McCallum found space midway through the stanza but blazed left of the target while Lisa De Vanna had two shots in seven minutes heading into the break to give the home side a scare.
Both attempts were from just outside the box and tested McLaren. The United goalkeeper did well to stop the first kick as she went to ground before the ball bounced while it took a full-length dive to her left to stop the 45th minute strike.
Adelaide United is a privately owned football club and I believe the coaches are appointed by the board of AU, not by SAWSA. I think Mike Barnett and Richie are appointed for next season and although it has been a very disappointing campaign, and mistakes have been made,we have to get behind these guys for next year.

look the team that was picked was in too much of a hurry, we need to look at local talent in our backyard , the biggest mistake was to pick a 37 yo , not because its SB but because your first season is to shape your future sqauds, i dont think there was much thought into that when that decision was made, we will lose at least 2 players to interstate teams next season, the sad thing about this is that there moving cause they have been screwed around this season and there is a couple of players that didnt make the squad who have been contacted already by interstae teams as well.....lets learn from the players that were selected this year and learn from them,i think the one thing we have been caught out at as well is our fitness and how quick we are, will i still come and watch the team yes, but constructive critiscm should be taken aboard and looked at......
I was extremely disappointed by security for not kicking out a clearly intoxicated lady, who shouldnt of been allowed in. My young children were extremely confused by what they say as they did not understand why she had to be helped everywhere she walked.
In a fledgling public event, you would expect people to be a little bit more mature with the decisions they make.

i must say i had my 5 yo about 10 metres away and by the way this person was carrying on he was getting scared......but as a responsible adult that has been involved with the game as long as she has been should have known better, but then again the person who drove her to the game shouldve really thought about it figuring who she was
did you guys watch the same game you can't blame a few, it was a team effort poor first touches, bad 1 on 1's, keeper mistakes, lack of speed & fitness the team needs work, good luck Mike

Jeda you are spot on but this highlights what a backet case the local womens game is & has been. What kind of players is it producing? Sturt Marion, yes coached by a woman, wins the local comp, training 1 night a week, & SB wins the best player & top goal scorer! Great recommendations for these people to be involved haha. Obviously some people on here, well most are dullusional wanna be's who have missed out being selected. The local comp needs a complete overhaul otherwise what happens to these players when they go back to the local clubs, play in a shit league, no decent competition, no intensity, no skill, social bbq league & then expect the girls to then perform at National league level.Your all dreaming! 4-5 players from Friday night are up to it, so where will the replacements come from next year? ------- exactly they're not there.

I would love it if u could name 3 people who post on here who missed out on selection. I really think u would struggle. I dont even think u could name 2
sif he turned round and yelled...i couldnt believe it....so funny
for the 8563654395843x time its professional football and the crowd can say what they want (within the rules of the stadium(and we were being family friendly))...he shouldnt just lose the plot
You guys are spot on when you say that the team is ALL embarrassing, not a point of single players. But IMO it's just too easy to blame the "quality of local women's soccer" etc. Scalzi plays in the PL and she's always been good like Donna and others too. And there are plenty more, even within the team that was picked by someone who HAD NO IDEA OF THE WOMEN"S TEAM!!!!!! IMO the game of the month at Santos were better than this AU team. So going to recruit interstate is just another stupid idea. They need someone that can put on the park the players we have and not make them look like morons. Period.

So you reckon that there were others in the PL to pick from or that the same players could make up a better team?
How would that be?
What's actually wrong with the team?
If you look at the game V Perth, we crated the 3 goals for them! At the same time we had 4 great chances to score & couldn't, we don't have the killer instint at the crucial times. We should be asking where is the next group of players gonna come from for season 2? To be fair to Mike & Richie, 3 months to fix bad habits which had formed in the local comp over many years, have a trial selection process, then prepare for the actual season, not possible! .Lets see after next year with at least 4 -5 months to get them to a better fitness level, playing together as a team with local based players, then we can judge.
