Finished 3 pts above Sheffield Utd so draw was enough. The great escape.Hawkesy wrote:he scored a lot in the run up, i remember that.Jimbob wrote:Yeah but it wasn't just that final league game where he scored an important goal. If I remember correctly (and I haven't checked my facts here) in the final 10 games he scored key goals in about 5 of these games including winners and equalisers.
How many points did they survive by, would the draw have been enough at OT to keep them up?
Zamora scored the winners against Everton, Arsenal, Blackburn in the last few games of the year. Also scored against Middlesborough in a 2-0 win.
Tevez scored against Middlesborough in a 2-0 win, scored 2 in a 3-1 win over Bolton, scored 1 in a 1-4 loss to Chelsea, scored winner at Old Trafford. Scored penalty against Blackburn
So in the last 6 games Zamora scored more winning goals. Scored 11 for the season.
Tevez scored 7 times in the season from 19 starts (as well as 7 sub appearances). Hardly prolific scoring. Took awhile to score his first goal, a free kick against Spurs in a loss.
Those are the facts, it is purely a debate over who was most influential & whether 1 player is worth points (& how many).
