great taste redmum! i usually get a fry's orange cream or a caramac after we do our shopping at the village, from the little sweet shop in the middle of the food court, with an irn bru!... still waiting for the monster munch to arrive!
we had a visitor arrive today to stay with us for christmas and new year and she brought over a big pack of flakes. even the normal dairy milk chocolate is so much better. mmmmmmmmmm
cabermet i've done it again, totally hijacked the thread with marmite and chocolate! sorry man city, but be prepared folks, the chocolate's crap.
yes, i visit that little shop regularly too!
There is also a great one in James Place, city, and on Jetty Road.
And yes, the chocolate here is crap, even the best stuff doesn't compare...

Yeah must bring some Marmite. Vegemite tastes like burnt car tyres leavened with sugar - yuk! What about pie-floaters though....? I've been told I have to try one of those, even though the name does have unfortunate connotations to Mancunions *I'll spare you the details*....

yeah, lets make all the teams take any kid that comes along, then they can all get 5 minutes eachpovman1964 wrote:This is an interesting scenario and highlights the ludicrous nature of the junior environment in our game, a 9 year old lad , should not need references to get a kick. I've watched a few training sessions and games of under 8's, 9's & 10's and I always wonder why the kids are given the same position week in week out.
At this age the aim of coaching should be about teaching the young players all positions of the game, give them a chance in all positions. That way they learn more and find their strengths & capabilities.
All I see is coaches putting kids in a position to get a winning outcome, this is what should happen at later ages, U/11's & up.

Re: Moving to Adelaide from the UK, looking for a junior team?
The point is simple Jeda, you are criticising someone who believes that there shouldn't be "squad" selection for kids under 10.
Whilst you in an earlier post are saying that you still need to help kids up to under 10 "find their strengths and weaknesses."
How can you or anyone tell what a players strengths or weaknesses might be over a brief trial period.
Some of the least "skilled" young players have an amazing strength of character that can be harnessed to develop them into excellent players.
No one is necessarily saying have bigger squads, that's your presumption, but try an cater for two teams where possible.
The FFSA needs to help clubs achieve this....there are too many kids being turned away

But... since you raised the issue, what blackmail scheme is that, the one that goes like "if you don't join up with us you won't be affiliated with or recognised by FFA or FIFA, so you won't get any referees ! "
E&D (and Amateur Football Clubs) pay ground upkeep and insurance and have equipment but are not "exclusive" with trials.
That junior association for nearly 50 years has provided a string of talented players for A League, Premier League and State League teams and will continue to do so.
Including the late Martyn Crook who contributed so much the game in SA and beyond.
And if you are arrogant enough to believe you are the "big boys" then that speaks volumes about your character and indeed the FFSA and FFSA Club whom you align yourself with !

Re: Moving to Adelaide from the UK, looking for a junior team?
I am sorry for having an opinion and ranting like a looney but I will hold with this opinion forever, there are always going to be a variety of skill levels in our great game and as far as I am concerned I would do all things possible to make sure that no-one misses out on getting a game.
I am 100% behind the concept of SSG and look forward to the future where all the little Johnnies and Jennies who want to kick a ball can get a chance to do so without having to undertake a trial.
By all means put in place a system that identifies and nurtures talent but do not make the cut too early, some kids take longer than others to develop, and if the alternative is to "cut" the kids with lesser skills at such an early age then sooner rather than later there will be no kids to identify ...
Elitism in junior sport would lead us down the path of the Eastern European experiments in the 70's where under extreme pressure young children were forced to behave like little adults and were effectively made prisoners of their sport.
If there are too many kids for a team, make another team, and another one , every kid who wants a kick should have somewhere to go.
Life is cruel enough as an adult let's not force that prressure on to children, via the age compression syndrome which is becoming all too prevalent in many aspects of society today.
In summary "Let the children, be children..."

Many times I have seen children turned away at trials where 50 kids have come out for 16 spots. The problem is there is very limited green space in the area for pitches for both training and playing. As much as clubs may want to put 2 teams in for an age group it is not always possible.
Then there is the age old problem of trying to get qualified coaches to develop the kids. In our area there is no E&D so there is no alternative for kids other than fed clubs. SDJSA runs a Saturday morning school based competition that is purely for fun and run clinics for parents to coach so as long as the school has a team that is always an option.
Green space is frequently sold off for housing and open space is at a premium.
There simply is often not enough room at Fed clubs....it doesn't always mean they are trying to be elitist.

Wow. We didn't mean for our initial query to stir up such a furore. For what it's worth, I tend to agree with povman. With the more laissez-faire approach that seems to be taken in the UK, I've seen boys turn up who would certainly not have passed trials if a strict regime was in place. Lo and behold a 6 months later they are an automatic pick and Academy scouts are sniffing round. And vice versa. Things change so fast at that age. So not only is tapping kids on the shoulder and telling them they are not good enough pretty silly aged 9, it is also counter-productive: to the clubs themselves; to the kid certainly; and, in the end, to the beautiful game herself. The main emphasis should be on fun and expressing yourself. Any coaches with some kind fantasy that they are Brian Clough or something should be told to get a life. It's supposed to be for the kids benefit, not for parents and coaches to live vicariously.... IMHO.

Be prepared to cringe when you arrive to see the way the way some of the 'coaches' & parents behave in junior football. It's not pretty!!ManchesterCity wrote:Wow. As for the Man City over 35s team I've not played much lately (and I'm 42). If it's just a lot of middle aged men having a laugh before the pub, then I'm game. If it's all seriously good ex-players who are just over 35 now, then I may embarass myself
I'd certainly like to come along and watch if nowt else... Thanks!
