Derby Della Lanterna
It's on this Monday morning, from the Stadio Luigi Ferraris
Gonna be huge, Sampdoria home game, expect a wild coro, by Samp's fans.
I really hope Samp get up here 2-0.
Always liked Samp better due to their fans coro, colours, shirts and players. Genoa are a good side as well though.
Should be a cracker. Is it on ESPN or just Rai??

Serie A Week 15 - 7/12/08 (19.30 UK)
Sampdoria - Genoa
Stadio Ferraris
The Derby della Lanterna was a bit of an anti-climax last year. Sampdoria and Genoa resumed their hostile acquaintanceship for the first time in 12 years in September 2007 and duly played out a dull 0-0 draw.
When they met again in February, a stalemate looked set to repeat itself, but Christian Maggio popped up with just three minutes to go and gave the Blucerchiati a dramatic victory.
So what can we expect this year? A cursory glance at the table tells us that the cards are stacked in Genoa’s favour. Sampdoria lost away to Cagliari on Sunday and are fifteenth in the table. Let’s not forget though that they have a game in hand and have won three of their last five games.
Walter Mazzarri’s team have been impressive at Marassi this season. They have yet to be defeated on their own turf, but Genoa have hardly struggled at home either. In fact, if the championship were down to home games, the Rossoblu would share the top of the table with Inter.
Gian Piero Gasperini has seen his side win six of their seven games at Marassi this season. The Rossoblu have scored 16 goals at home – that’s more than any other outfit in the First Division. Diego Milito is the League’s top scorer with 11 strikes despite failing to find the target on Sunday.
Cracks have begun to appear in Genoa’s glossy veneer, though. While the Rossoblu currently lie eighth, albeit just two points adrift of a Champions League spot, they have not won any of their last three games. Two lacklustre draws against Lazio and Bologna on Sunday followed a heavy 4-1 defeat away to Juventus.
The form of these two teams will be irrelevant come Sunday though, for derbies are as unpredictable as Antonio Cassano.
Keep an eye on: Antonio Cassano (Sampdoria) – When the Barese plays with bravado, Samp usually win. After an indifferent start to the season, the 26-year-old has begun to shake off the doughnuts and shake up opposition defences. Yet again, he is one of the main protagonists in Serie A and looks certain to wreak havoc this weekend.

I've always liked this derby, very passionate and colourful. Two good football sides on show as well.
It will end 1-1.
It will end 1-1.

Re: Derby Della Lanterna
I don't care, watching all football tonight.
Start off with the start of the East Anglia derby (will check it out ipswich
), then Milan-Catania, couple hours sleep, then the Lanterna.
As a neutral, hope for lots of goals. and hope RAI show the coreos too.

Forza Catania, would be nice seeing spiderman coach his boys over Milan just for old times sake.
Lecce might take care of Juve as well as both Milan and Juve will be resting players ahead of their 2nd place battle next week

Re: Derby Della Lanterna
If I didn't have such a crap sleep last night and didn't have to work tomorrow I'd be up for the derby. Oh well, I'll just have to watch a replay tomorrow afternoon/evening.
Zenga has a touchline ban, so no coaching for him today.
We won't be resting players, purely because with the injuries we cannot afford to. Only Del Piero will not play today from the side that has reguarly taken the field lately. If we can, some players will be rested vs BATE. Won't be easy in Lecce.

Re: Derby Della Lanterna
Sampdoria 0 - 1 Genoa
Milito 50 (G)
Stadio Ferraris
Diego Milito gave Genoa their first derby win in seven years, but Sampdoria had two goals disallowed in an extremely ill-tempered match with 11 bookings.
The city rivalry had a new twist this term, as for the first time in many years Genoa were the favourites. They sat pretty in seventh place, six points clear of the Blucerchiati, albeit with an extra game played, and lost their 100 per cent home record to Bologna last week.
This was also a battle between superstars Antonio Cassano and Diego Milito. Genoa missed Andrea Gasbarroni, Matteo Paro and Giandomenico Mesto, while Samp were without Angelo Palombo, Reto Ziegler and Emiliano Bonazzoli. Walter Mazzarri's side took a battering midweek with a 3-0 UEFA Cup defeat at Standard Liege, so they had a point to prove.
It was immediately a fiery affair with 13 free kicks in the opening 10 minutes. Diego Milito had the first chance, cutting in from the left and firing just over the bar.
Rubinho fumbled a corner, but Salvatore Accardi's shot was too weak to beat the goalkeeper. Giuseppe Biava was booked for a foul on Antonio Cassano, although it was really a sandwich as Marco Rossi also smashed into him from the front.
Milito was clear on goal and got in front of Daniele Gastaldello, who wrestled him to the ground just outside the box. It was not a red or even yellow card in Farina's view. Franceschini, Giuseppe Sculli and Thiago Motta went into the book by the 25th minute, as the tackles continued to fly in thick and fast.
Hugo Campagnaro's tackle stopped Milito on the edge of the penalty area, while Rubinho smothered a Cassano cross-shot. Omar Milanetto was the fourth Genoa player in the book for a terrible high challenge on Paolo Sammarco. Gennaro Delvecchio followed a minute later for Samp.
In first half stoppages Genoa moved the ball around for several minutes, but Thiago Motta had his shot charged down and the cross was then too long for Milito.
Genoa broke the deadlock straight after the restart with Capocannoniere Milito. 'El Principe' rose above the crowd to nod in a free kick whipped in from the right.
Cassano was furious, as he felt Biava should've received a second yellow card for a tackle from behind. Moments later Campagnaro thought he had equalised by following up Gennaro Delvecchio's parried header, but both Samp players were offside.
Rubinho got his body behind a Claudio Bellucci free kick and Padalino was the seventh player booked. Rubinho had to pluck a deflected cross out of the air before Sammarco could get his head to it from six yards.
The tension escalated further as Giuseppe Sculli had an argument with Delvecchio from the bench, as the Genoa man had already been substituted. Goal hero Milito went off with a slight knee problem, making way for former Juventus starlet Raffaele Palladino.
Campagnaro and Rubinho were also carded, while walter Mazzarri threw on striker Bruno Fornaroli for the final push. The Uruguayan thought he had equalised, but again the goal was disallowed for an offside position. This time the decision was debatable, as he seemed to be level when the ball was flicked on for him at the back post.
Play was stopped moments later when Genoa's Thiago Motta was on the ground in the penalty area as play had continued elsewhere. He was furious and replays showed exactly why - Delvecchio seemed to throw a punch at his cheekbone as the cross came in, but nobody spotted it.
Samp were pouring forward, but Cassano sent Pieri running and the cross was too long, then Franceschini was stopped in the box for a non-existent foul. It was a siege on the Genoa box and Sammarco was allowed a free header from six yards, but he lost his balance and nodded wide!
Cassano was booked at the 89th minute for his furious reaction, as he dispossessed Matteo Ferrari on the byline, but did not like the (correct) linesman's call that it had gone out of play. He twice kicked the ball at the advertising boards near the linesman and was inevitably booked.
Stankevicius was also carded 20 seconds later in the 57th foul of the game. With all these stoppages, five minutes of extra time were awarded. Sammarco's overhead kick might've gone into the near bottom corner, but it hit teammate Franceschini.
Rubinho timed his intervention perfectly to pluck Cassano's cross off the head of Delvecchio in the last chance of the game.
Sampdoria: Castellazzi; Campagnaro (Fornaroli 80), Gastaldello, Accardi; Padalino (Stankevicius 85), Delvecchio, Sammarco, Franceschini, Pieri; Cassano, Bellucci
Genoa: Rubinho; Bocchetti, Ferrari, Biava, Criscito; Rossi (Papastathopoulos 86), Thiago Motta, Milanetto, Juric; Sculli (Vanden Borre 65), Milito (Palladino 75)

Re: Derby Della Lanterna
Gonna have to watch the replay of this! Was Delvecchio's punch really a nice king hit or sensationalised?
Re: Derby Della Lanterna
been trying in vain to find pics of the coreos from this morning
could someone please post both up - I saw them briefly but that's it..
Genoa pulled off a real coreo display while Samp fans simply waved big flags. Samp's did look good but Genoa were better.
want pics!!

Definitely the most colourful derby in the world. I saw a picture of the Genoa curva, there's looked nuts as well, just it wouldn't allow me to copy the image properties to put it on here
