Reds W-League Team hit for six by Mariners

Post by SpazzTic »

Adelaide United’s Women’s Team has suffered a comprehensive 6-nil defeat at the hands of the Central Coast Mariners in Round 7 of the Westfield W-League at Hindmarsh Stadium.

In a crucial game for The Reds’ finals aspirations, the home side was convincingly outplayed by the visiting Mariners, whose impressive performance was not reflective of their seventh position on the table prior to the match.

Trudy Camilleri, Jenna Kingsley and Kyah Simon all bagged doubles for the Mariners on a disappointing day for United’s Women.

The Mariners were dominant throughout the 90 minutes, Camilleri’s opening goal in the 35th minute richly deserved after they pressed United high up the park and controlled most of the early possession.

Kingsley then added her first five minutes into the second half, The Reds’ task becoming increasingly difficult.

In the 59th minute Camilleri shattered any hopes of a United revival with a screamer from outside the penalty area, the Mariners following with another two goals within four minutes as Kingsley scored her second before a brilliant individual effort from Simon.

The Mariners striker then added another to compound the result, leaving The Ladies in Red with some soul searching to do in order to save their season and have any chance of featuring in the finals with three rounds remaining.

There were few shining lights on the park for The Reds, captain Di Alagich battling hard in defence while Westfield Matildas striker Victoria Balomenos continued to display a tireless work rate until the final whistle.

The win sends the Central Coast above United on the ladder, The Ladies in Red now looking ahead to match in Newcastle against the Jets Women’s Team on Sunday 14 December.

funny how everyone wanted kevins head and now 7 weeks into coaching his firsts womens team after a coaching change was made everyone now wants his head. funny how the world works, or should that be peoples minds. give the dude a chance to make an impression!!!

I wasnt at the game but i intend to watch the reply. dont ever ever blame the goalkeeper for a teams performance, only uneducated people do that and comments based on handing out blame are not wanted. Emma is a fantastic goalkeeper so maybe changes need to be made in other areas of the team so that balls arent constantly leaked through and so keepers arent under constant pressure

Watched the game on TV. CCM were very fleet footed, Adelaide looked like they either flat footed and always chasing. Some passing errors but, sometimes thats the way a game goes. Sacking the coach doesnt do anything. Keeper caught off her line a couple of times, but the CCM allowed too much space by the defence and midfield.

1 - i never called for kevins head, nor do i speak for everyone. kevin wouldve been better for the job
1b - barnett has made an impression and its a crap one. credit to him for trying different things week in week out to tru but he obviously isnt the right man for the job.

2- emma wasnt blamed for the teams performance, but she had a bad game. shes had good games, but this one certainly wasnt one of them. no doubt the rest of the team needs to improve but we knew that...the keeping was unusually poor today, regardless of how good emma is normally.

Well I went to my first ever womens game today and I'd have to say I was entertained, it wasnt the best football in the world (mind you my wife has reminded me nether are our games) but it was entertaining result aside.
Some of the diferences I noticed was that agressiveness or killer instinct, was played a bit too nice.
Also the physical factor which in mens games can produce boring games wasnt there for the women, I suppose why its was entertaining yet I believe many of the players could sharpen up. If Renee Harrison was a yard quicker I think she'll be a great centre half, considering the result I didnt think she did too bad.
The other noticable diference was everything was rushed, AU didnt have someone to take control, they won the ball and passed and passed and so on untill they lost it rather than a 'play maker' (hate that term) took control in the middle of the park. Even when they played well, near the end when the young blonde girl came on they still played at 100 mph and couldnt actually keep up so the ball kept being turned over.
Wouldn't blame the keeper for the loss as AU were out played but not a great game for her also, how good was the last goal (i think) the one that was whipped in from the right.
But an entertaining game in which myself and my friend (who has a pretty good footballing track record) were glad we went too and probably wont be the last game I'll go to.

All goals came in the second half.

What's gone wrong with the AU women's team? They made a promising start to the season, but have been pathetic for the last few games. And, yesterday, losing 6-0 at home to a team below them on the table... was really dismal. Mariners were so dominant they could have easily won 10-0.

Adelaide had no idea how to construct attacking moves, and constantly lost out in one-on-one battles. The defence was very slow thinking at times. Perhaps it would help if all the players actually lived in Adelaide- they might then play with a bit more cohesion and develop some local pride.

i personnaly wouldve given the job and assistant job to a premier league coach or ex coach, they see the girls week in and week out and know what and were the players are best suited for the positons, to many players in that team are playing on past days form and not current form, you cant play a player like emma who has been injured for so long in a 10 game season and expect her to perform to her potenial.bring in harry from the start and quiggs or we will lose this young talent interstate and sign on ebs and get her in defence to help out, and well done to the SB fan club for acting like clowns she was taken off, but no response as yet were i can get my t-shirt  , Gubs put your hand up to go help them out in goals

You know HH I agree with you. I don't understand why the Adelaide women's team was given to a men's coach! Now after a few weeks we see that he isn't doing anything amazing at all. The team is embarassing. Is it possible that NO ONE from the women's (sasi, clubs etc) was good enough to do at least as 'well' as this one??? Give our coaches a chance or bring in someone actually better!!! And also I agree that it would be better if all players were in Adelaide for training etc.

Wow, it's amazing..NOW you all want Kevin as the coach. Before the season everyone was against the idea of him being coach. It's funny how people's opinions change.

watched the game on tv and agree bout pumping the ball forward, did nothing for them and resulted in hardly any shots on goal, barnett and those girls have some serious work to do to remain competitive for the rest of the season

Everyone needs to calm down on the whole coaching situation. I believe change is good for the girls. However it may take some time, and whether barnett is the right man for the job we'll find out at the end of season but for now lets just give him a chance and not go back in time and bring out the historical figures such as kevin. He has been there a while done his job and now its time for change.

But never-the-less that team needs some real improvement fast, they need to recruit the young ones into the starting liine up (as well as get rid of the ageing) and that team cohesion needs to improve. That last game was terrible and i am not going to blame the keeper for it (despite her poor game). How many chances did AU create - NOT MANY, and yes central coast could have easily won by more. They dont play like a team and it showed in the result.

After seeing a number of games now, what is very clear is the lack of pace & technique from some of the players. Knowing Mike he would be assessing everyones ability to play at this level & obviously there are not many. The question I have is What has Kevin & the local game being doing for the last 7 years? For SB to be the local league's best player & top goalscorer that says it all. Your asking social players to then play national league level, not possible. No disrespect to SB but can't teach old dogs new tricks, so where is all the younger talent? How mant Matildas do we have compared to the other states? These players need to take a look at themselves & have 3 remaining games to lift otherwise they will find themselves out of the squad for season 2.

The game was entertaining, well actually the commentating by T.N.T!
the jugs were on fire, big Enzo took up 1 1/2 seats (as usual), so i was forced to sit like a squashed mullet!

above all, game was good, CCM outplayed our girls in the midfield, totally dominated and put pressure on our defence all game.
Balomenos, Sclazi tried to do something but the service they got was either "crap" or non-existence.

Blacky had a shocker, thank god she was subbed, much too her pose's undelight, and young "harry" showed a spark and did very well. she put in the hard yards and actually was one of the least players to show some fighting spirit to win back the ball.
Cockayne was allsorts, after the collission in the first 10 mins, she looked like she was carrying an injury, Alagich tried to life the team when moved to def midfield, but that just left the defence exposed.Shorty tried but was outplayed and had no real support when alagich moved into midfield.
Swaffer, had NO IDEA and was slow, gave away the ball.
Our midfield was in shambles in first half, could not hold the ball, gave it away and could not pass more than two touches.
CCM did NOT PLAY like the bottom side.
Our keeeper, WHAT THE F&*K???
too many times was caught of the line, and can she actually jump???

above all, very entertaining match, sad too see the girl lose, but hopefully they bounce back away next week.
I definitely will be back @ hindmarsh next home game, if mot for the entertainment on the pitch, but for the T & T show, absolute class lads!

I know I have made my comments re: w-league quite well known and I do not think Adelaide are on an island.

Kev is not the answer. His record is and has been up for discussion over the years. He’s not there so lets move on.

I will say this to Mick B’s defence. How the hell can you expect to put a squad together (that is representative of the Womens league and not just SASI) in only a few weeks before the w-league kicks off AND expect the team to gel. One week the players are playing against each other in the local league and are mortal enemies. then the next they’re team mates?

Kevin had the luxury of using predominantly SASI players (as he was coach and selector for sensations) who had played all season together. Of course they were a better unit. In saying that however, what did the sensations achieve in the last years before the WNSL folded? Consider that before you slam Mick.

There needs to be smarter planning before next year starts. Selection and training needs to start way way beforehand. This will present problems. SASI will crack the poops and not allow players to play/train, etc. Clubs will get jacked off because they are losing players because of over training, etc.

I agree.
Everyone has you guys under the microscope but to everyone's (the reds) defence mate, its been a rushed season and unfortunately Adelaide is not the only team in the pool of "shocking results" Head up Shorty. Only one way to go. UP!!!!!!

Have been told that SASI are actually waiting to find out what AU's plans are for next year as this is one factor which will affect SASI's direction next year.
By that I mean that it looks like sasi are looking to work with/around AU, not against them...
