Re: Arsenal FC 2008/2009
Scoring first we came up with 19 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses in 07/08
Almost identical to the 20 wins, 6 draw of the 03/04 season.
So similarly we didn't really have weak efforts once infront last season against the weaker teams, it was our rivals that outplayed us, the two losess came at Old Trafford after going 1-0 up and at The Bridge. Had we held on here, we would have won the league last season even if Chelsea beat Bolton on the last day of the season
When we didn't score first which occured on 12 occasions in 03/04 and 14 occasions in 07/08, this includes 4 0-0's in 03/04 and 2 0-0's in 07/08. Never were we held to goaless defeat in either season. Cough Cough Villa on the weekend!
in 07/08 we came back for 5 wins, 4 draws and a single loss to borough = 19 points = 1.9 pts/game
in 03/04 we did much better claiming 6 wins and 2 draws = 20 points = 2.5 pts/game
Could be attributed to experience
In London we took 21 points last season compared to 18 in 03/04 in the same amount of games.
Thus after filtering we can see how we went against the northerners
15 games away and outside London in 07/08 produced 7 wins, 6 draws and 2 losses = 27 points
15 games away and outside London in 03/04 produced 9 wins, 6 draws and 0 losses = 33 points
Overall poor record against the more physical teams, one massive area to work on, 10 wins here would almost guaruntee a title shot if we don't play like tools at home.

Re: Arsenal FC 2008/2009
When we lost in 07/08 we conceded first in only one of the three games as mentioned.
When we lost in 03/04 well..........
The Big 4 table seems to be the place where the title was lost, not forgetting the poor run of form after the Eduardo injury added with the Ade-bender-gate that occured after the dismall 5-1 loss to Spurs.
In 03/04 we played 6 games against the top 4 for 4 wins and 2 draws = 14 points
In 07/08 we managed just a single win, 3 draws and two defeats for = 6 points
In both seasons a crucial game against liverpool has occurred alongside a massive champions league tie against English opposition. in 03/04 we beat Chelsea away and came from 1-2 down at half time to win comfortably on the back of a brilliant Henry Hattrick and some Pires poach work. Last year we played out a horrible 1-1 draw against a second string Liverpool side, this is precisely the location the experts said we would lose the title. Had it been Man U they have 15-16 quality players with experience compared with our smaller 7-9 at the time, they would have been able to focus on both with quality 11's.
5/11 draws were against the bottom teams in 07/08, and 6/12 in 03/04 not much difference here. So forget all the rhetoric from the average english media and shit stirrers, the real pundits are those who had reason to believe we would struggle in the crunch time with depth, the thing to work out is whether in 03/04 we had similar depth, but just more experience, another thing Wenger is under pressure over.
What a dissapointing season thus far, we are all but gone from the title race and lacking even a settled first 11 that we would expect to win if it was on the park like last season. It's all there, we to sign some players however the coach after a brilliant season last year should hardly be in trouble, next season we must sort out our key issues, which means finding a way to be more effective in the first half of games.

Doubt any of our players would start for other big 4 clubs bar Cesc, even he would be a sub!

Could Ade or RVP save a team from relegation by single handedly winning them 5-6 games in 8 starts. Tevez is a gun but can't show his true worth in the freeway league. Yes, Rooney is pretty average, but still makes their 11 very strong.delfino_1936 wrote:RVP, Ade >>>>> Tevez and at times Rooneypires7 wrote:Doubt any of our players would start for other big 4 clubs bar Cesc, even he would be a sub!

Rosicky, Nasri are no better than - Fat F, Gerrard, Ballack, Deco, The Bloodnut, Ronaldo, Essien, hargreves, Alonso, Masha, Carrick lol we have no great depth in the midfield! All these mentioned players have backup options. Face facts it's time for the tight bastards to spend some money instead of talking about it always being an option. Does this mean winning isn't important? The other 3 clubs couldn't give a fuck about out morals, or are we just a business afterall

I think if RVP was 100% fit he could save a team, don't know about Ade, yes i still think Tevez is quality and what he did was class but i still rate RVP more.pires7 wrote:Could Ade or RVP save a team from relegation by single handedly winning them 5-6 games in 8 starts. I rate Rooney highly but he just hasn't done his best consistently enough imo.
I don't think Rosicky and Nasri are better than Fat F, SG, Ballack, Ronnie, Essien etc. but could easily fit into most of the midfields
I honestly think Nasri and Rosicky are better than Carrick, Hargreaves, Scholes (now), Fletcher, Riera.
Of course i agree though we do have no depth in midfield. Wenger needs to bring in some midfielders. Maybe it's time to sell a couple of the promising youngsters for a decent fee.

He has been stripped of the captaincy and did not travel on the bus to the game. What an absolute tool.

and as for djourou im a huge fan of him and believe he is better then WG anyway. hoyte hasnt had a taste of such competative football, if we had nordtviet back (which i thought we did) it would b tough choice between the 2.

would be happy if wenger goes and buys a very experienced cb to partner toure. and yes you can argue djourou or song or silvestre r capble rite now but we will leak some softer goals with these guys. as good as they r they will take a little more time before they r top 4 qualityGALLAS STRIPPED OF CAPTAINCY
Demoted Gallas misses trip to Manchester
Arsene Wenger has moved to try to restore order within the Arsenal after reports suggested he had stripped William Gallas of the captaincy and left him out of his squad to face Manchester City at Eastlands.
Gallas: Has paid for his outspoken criticism of team-mates.
Gallas was not on the team coach which departed north London and has seemingly paid a high price for his outspoken comments over the last couple of days.
The 31-year-old blew the lid on rifts in the Gunners dressing room, a blazing row during the interval of the 4-4 draw with rivals Tottenham and a problem with an unnamed 25-year-old team-mate unsettling the squad - putting one of Robin van Persie, Bacary Sagna and Emmanuel Eboue in the frame - with the Dutchman as clear favourite.
Either Manuel Almunia or Gael Clichy could take the armband this afternoon, as Cesc Fabregas is suspended and Kolo Toure injured.
The centre-back`s career at the club is now in doubt. Gallas has been quoted in London's Evening Standard as being open to an eventual return to France for the final stages of his career, which adds fuel to questions of his long-term commitment to Arsenal.
He said: "It's true that I'd like to return to France for one or perhaps two seasons to finish my career."
Gallas has caused a stir in France as well this week with his autobiography.
In that he talks of unrest in the France camp during their disastrous Euro 2008 finals, singling out a player, believed to be current Arsenal team-mate Samir Nasri, who he felt was disrespecting older members of the squad.
He did not name Nasri but said: "I was also 20 years old once. I would never have allowed myself to speak in this tone to a footballer who was older than me." Nasri was the only squad member of that age.

clichy, toure and sagna - def would fit into startin IX for big4
rosicky - wont any more
nasri - would struggle, prob b able to start for liverpool mayb chelsea not utd though, remember he is only 21.
rvp - fit and in form liverpool yes and everyone down but not utd or chelsea but would still be great squad depth.
ade - depends on which ade u get on the day
almunia - great keeper, still dont think he is top 4 though, doesnt have the strength and ability of cech, vand der sar or even seaman or lehmann

Re: Arsenal FC 2008/2009
very poor opening 1st half & then we let another silly goal in just b4 halftime
dont look creative at all, miss our wide players. Bendtner is so low in confidence & Clichy headin in the same direction after that 1st half performance. Denilson started very sloppy havent really seen RVP nor the rest of the team mind you
Hopefully we can pull our finger out 2nd half & nik 3 points
Gallas should be sold in January back to France - he has FUKD up this Arsenal team IMO
