So what happens with AU Girls team?
How often do they train?
Are they paid?
Do the players fork out any expense other than driving to/from training/games?
Is there finals or first past the post after 7 (lol) rounds?
Any prize dollars up for grabs for winning the league?

Re: So what happens with AU Girls team?
I read today in the paper that some of the girls that play for Adelaide united dont live in Adelaide (Is that correct) I have just read you dont get paid (Surley they do) how does a team train when team mates are Interstate, I think its a fantastic idea the W League but how can it be taken seriously when things like this happen? Im not slurring I just dont see how this works. Can someone clear things up for me. Is it just testing the waters for something bigger or is this the way it will stay?
Re: So what happens with AU Girls team?
well coz the girls dont get paid they (unlike the men) still have to support themselves. Teams cant expect players in their 20's n 30's to play without paying them and then also expect them to give up their careers for nothing

Cheers Gubs,
Im not having a go I just think its strange. I think its totally unfair. What are the thoughts of others? People want to be taken seriously BUT where would this happen anywhere else? Would a mens team do it?

Re: So what happens with AU Girls team?
This season there is only 10 games, but one must remember that this is the first year, and sure many things had to be organised and probably the season started a month later than it should have. Playing each other twice will make 14 games, and if they admit 2 more teams to A-League men in future, then possibly more games. This W- League is in its fledgling stage.
At least expenses are not being paid by players as was the case in the old National League.
In the past players have not made themselves available because of Careers etc. also the 3 or 4 years gap in bringing back a National League, has seen some girls take on lives/careers.some play Prems because they love the game and do not have time to commit to the elite level. Some have given the game away altogether. I can never see Womens Football ever becoming Full Time Professional in Australia, USA struggle with that also.
Some Asian countries are more Professional, players being employed by Armed Services/ Public Service and get the time to play and train.
If this W-League is solely the benefit of Matildas, YM, etc. ie Coaches being instructed who to play by the FFA hierachy it will impede the progress of the W-League.
There is a choice I guess let each W-League club be autonomous in how they progress in the future.

I met two of the team in Brisbane the other week, flying in to Adelaide for a home game, they both live in QLD and fly in for the games, I hope someone is paying their air fares at least. I thought it was rude to ask them ...

I do not know which makes a man more conservative—to know nothing but the present, or nothing but the past.

agree. if the best players can't be brought here 'permanently', then make do with the best we've got here for the team's sake.Jeda wrote::? how can anyone run a team with players living in other states another lives in Canberra is S.A. so bear of talent we need to do thispovman1964 wrote:I met two of the team in Brisbane the other week, flying in to Adelaide for a home game, they both live in QLD and fly in for the games, I hope someone is paying their air fares at least.
