Goal Keeping Academy

Just wondering if anyone knows of any goalkeeping academys around that would accept an amateur keeper

Try the federation Academy. It is run by Neil Tate and accepts all players not just fed. Don't bother with Chris Higgins, he may get technical in some areas but there are other areas he doesn't seem to have a clue about. If your son is serious about making a future in the sport look for quality coaches that have the credentials to match. In my opinion trialling with foreign clubs and/or playing with or against world class players (when they were younger) does not mean that the skills are there to coach to an elite level. Some keeper academies may provide a fancy shirt so they can advertise cheaply and make you feel important but at the end of the day its about quality. Have a chat with Neil and see what he can do for you..

I think thats a pretty silly comment about Chris Higgins, if you want to plug the Academy run by Neil Tate fine go for it BUT I wouldnt slur another Academy. Chris is a great goalkeeper coach who has started his own academy and from what I understand is fairly succesful. He is in the UK now with a group. He works with Gawler, Playford and ABE as well as other clubs.

My advice to The godfather is talk to Neil but also talk to Chris Higgins. Keep your options open and make your own decision.

Agreed, Chris is a great guy. I've never been coached by him but I know people who have and they speak highly of him. I would speak to both and see which one suits you best

Keeper 1 If you think that Neil Tate is a better coach and runs better clinics than Chris Higgins you have rocks in your head. My son has been to both and I'm telling you that his warm-up at GK SA is more intense than a whole FFSA session. Any coach that say's "tell him to chuck his boots on and jump in with that lot" without even the sniff of a warm up doesn't rate with me mate! They have their favorites and they look after them when it comes to state development time but the others they couldn't be less interested in. You just have to look at the last state trials (under 14), they truly were an embarrassment. I agree that playing the game doesn't make you a good coach but in Chris Higgins case he is.

What has Chris done to you, have you brought your son to one of his clinics, before you shoot your mouth off. If you or your son didn't like what was going on there so be it, but don't slag off I guy who looks after his charges pretty well. It just not training its a whole program and each week he works on a different aspect to the position including fitness (with Jason Delfos) Oh and yes my son did feel important when he got his T-Shirt ,Polo shirt, Tracksuit and Cap whats wrong with that !! and yes it is about quality and GK SA is Quality. He has two groups working down at Gawler each Monday- junior and beginners and later in the evening the seniors and some talented juniors. Ive seen the work that those lads do and the improvement of some of them during the time my lad has been there. Its not all about playing for AU or SASI its about learning the position so you can be consistent in your game whatever the level you are playing at. Its great making a fancy save once but you need to be able to make that save again and again if needed, good technique is what allows you to do this.

If Chris picked your son up on technique listen to him - not someone who will tell you what you want to hear, that's if you get any feedback at all from FFSA.

keeper1, its fair to support one programme but dont do it to bag someone else. chris is a good keeper and puts a lot of effort into his coaching clinics, which have become a success. he does a great job, bagging him on a public forum shows u dont have a clue.
