Owners launch bid to find buyer for Liverpool
Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr, the Liverpool owners, have signalled that they are ready to sell their stake at Anfield after engaging Merrill Lynch, the investment bank, to find a buyer for the club.
The Americans need to restructure their £350million loan with the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), which expires on January 25. However, the bank, at present under public ownership because of the credit crunch, has adopted a policy of restructuring loans only in extremely favourable conditions. While discussions with Gillett and Hicks have not yet opened, their circumstances are not believed to fall into this category. The owners have always denied that the club were available for sale but the latest move signals an acceptance that the American duo's future control is unsustainable.
Although the Liverpool owners denied yesterday that Merrill Lynch has been engaged, The Times understands that auditors looked at Liverpool's books last week with a view to finding a buyer. So far, the search appears to be unsuccessful.
Sheikh Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai, has maintained a longstanding interest in acquiring Liverpool but has balked at the price tag set by the American pair, which is upwards of £550 million.
The owners admitted last month that plans for a new stadium in Stanley Park have been put on hold indefinitely. RBS is bracing itself for a campaign of protest by the Spirit of Shankly, a Liverpool supporters' union.
An offer from Dubai of £500million has been on the table for many months, but there has been minimal contact between the Sheikh's representative, Amanda Staveley, and the American camp over the past few months.
Rumours of interest from Robert Kraft have swirled around Anfield in the past few weeks but it is not believed that the owner of the New England Patriots American football team is a viable bidder for Liverpool.

Re: Liverpool FC season 08/09
I can't believe people are on here saying Pennant should start ahead of Kuyt... are you guys for real?!?! Pennant is probably the worst player in our squad... all pace, no brains, a poor version of Aaron Lennon... and Aaron Lennon is garbage.
How can anyone deny Kuyt this season?!?! He has been immense for us this season... in both right wing and up front. His game against ManUSA was excellent and provides more on the right than any other player to play there for us this season... ESPECIALLY JERMAINE "I CAN'T CONTROL A PASS" PENNANT.
But if we continue with 4-4-2 (Torres and Keane up front), I can see Gerrard playing wide right anyway, with Mascherano and Alonso in the middle.

It's an alright result..but its by no means 'great'.mattieg1200 wrote:great result this morning imo.. unlucky to concede late but if you told rafa at the start ud be walkin out of here with a point and no suspensions and injurioes etc he would ave ran wif that
3 points is the only result that should be considered 'great'.
Wish we'd seen El Zhar tbh. He probably would have had a bigger impact on the game than Kuyt did.
Love seeing Agger back on the pitch..it's great

Re: Liverpool FC season 08/09
going by the first half we should have been atleast 2-0 up. we controlled the game and they looked crap going forward.2nd half was 50/50. well 1 point is alright i guess. win next match and we are through i think. good to see keane score again. 2nd half we looked shit in defence.

so far we have gotten 6 from 6. extremely happy with that. our toughest match will be vs pompey but its at home so we should be able to get a wintotsreds08 wrote:next 5 league games: wigan (h), chelsea (a), pompey (h), spurs (a), west brom (h)
we should be able to get 12-13 points imo. it will be a test as we have ucl and carling cup competitions along the way

We will draw against Spurs - i have a feeling that Spurs are gonna find the form that everyone tipped they would have at the start of the season.totsreds08 wrote:so far we have gotten 6 from 6. extremely happy with that. our toughest match will be vs pompey but its at home so we should be able to get a wintotsreds08 wrote:next 5 league games: wigan (h), chelsea (a), pompey (h), spurs (a), west brom (h)

i also think we will thump WBA. Babel will start, score two, and Torress will also score two.
If anyone didnt realise - i like making hail mary statements. lol

Hope he does tbh, but doubt it. He seems to have fallen out of favour with Rafa this season...

Yeah i really wonder what happens, as much as i find Kuyt a douche, he work bloody hard - but if someone with more skill and composure had the same work rate as him - they would be a bloody great player. Anyway, not sure what is going on with Babel v Rafa

Re: Liverpool FC season 08/09
Yeah without a doubt, You combine Kuyts workrate with someone like Babels skill and you have one helluva player.
Shame that so many good players don't get games because Rafa doesn't seem to like them...Crouch, Pennant, Babel and unless Skrtel got injured, I think its a safe bet that the same would have happened to Agger as well. Which would have been the biggest shame of all.
It's a bit concerning how much I love Agger actually

Man Utd tied with Everton on a fluke. The way Everton played in the second half of that game, you guys were extremely lucky to finish up 1-1. Sp why don't you piss off and comment on your own teams thread.TOPGUN-JIMMY-AUFC wrote:yah won on fluke, i was watching, shiraz only if he didnt push so hard, yah would have lost me says....liverpool are skata

Re: Liverpool FC season 08/09
fuck we need torres back. we are creating a lot of oppurtunities but can't finish them. does anybody else think that when we just score we start to sit back a bit more? rafa should push for a 2nd goal. we need goal difference. we are + 8 and chelsea are +23
Re: Liverpool FC season 08/09
Holy shit I didn't realise Chelsea were that far ahead on goal difference..I thought they were like +16 or something..totsreds08 wrote:shiraz we need torres back. we are creating a lot of oppurtunities but can't finish them. does anybody else think that when we just score we start to sit back a bit more? rafa should push for a 2nd goal. we need goal difference. we are + 8 and chelsea are +23

yeah they are. we have only won 1 game by more than a goal and that was the merseyside derby which we won by 2. rafa has to sort it out. now that torres is back i wonder how we will play. imo:Gerrard_of_SA wrote:Holy cabernet I didn't realise Chelsea were that far ahead on goal difference..I thought they were like +16 or something..totsreds08 wrote:shiraz we need torres back. we are creating a lot of oppurtunities but can't finish them. does anybody else think that when we just score we start to sit back a bit more? rafa should push for a 2nd goal. we need goal difference. we are + 8 and chelsea are +23

Re: Liverpool FC season 08/09
the media is heaping pressure onto us. we had a brilliant start to the season but now we are under all sorts of pressure to keep winning so we can win the league and i think it is already getting to some players. we look shaky sometimes
Re: Liverpool FC season 08/09
Dont think the media heaping pressure on us is a legitament excuse. If we want to win the title, we have to be getting results week in week out. Thats the pressure of being title contenders. The media has stuff all to do with it.
