Best Junior Club for Goalkeepers

Post by devils advocate »

Hey all, my son is a keeper but getting limited coaching at the club he is at. Just wondered which of the clubs in the West (would travel further if the coaching was really good) has the best set up for keepers?

the worst thing for any keeper is to be left out of training, we were lucky last year to have the services of our Super League keeper to take our junior glovemen. next year will be the same vein for us, i hate watching our junior keepers entangled in the net like a caught fish, so for me the Raiders are up there when it comes to development.

Now we know who your coach is - no you dont, I am a parent/coach myself - he goes around many clubs with goalkeeping SA and has academies at Gawler and ABE - Ive seen him coach kids and he does a good job - if you are interested as a goalkeeper or a parent of a goalkeeper I would suggest you check his site out

Hi all.
My lad sometimes attends Chris Higgins sat morning academy(my work commitments allowed) at Adelaide City at Oakden.
He is now running that for most of the year to cater for young Fed keepers playing on a Sunday and will only do technique/reflex work so as to not nacker the boys for there games on sunday and be offside with the coaches.
Chris also coaches the Western Strikers junior keepers on a Wed he tells me and may be able to do some other clubs keepers after that at the same venue.
His number is 0419809255

why dont you look at the FFSA GK Development Centers. Located at Underdale.
Theres no more the 4 GKs per coach resulting in good quality training/coaching/education/ etc.

Ring Neil Tate 0401206974 for more info.

Talking about Chris Higgins, isn’t his son playing down raiders now, moved from Gawler last year? You would be utilizing him for sure wouldn’t you, crazy if you don’t. Gawler did for the last couple of years and he brought a professional aspect to the position that I think was lacking before. I would have to agree with Rodney Chris is a great coach and he and his assistants really work with the keepers correcting any flaws in their techniques, not just kicking balls at them. But making sure the lad understands why they should do it in that particular way because when the lad realises, bet your bottom dollar they take it in. His academy has some good keepers down at Gawler on Monday nights but he also works with the lads just starting and is extremely good at showing them the basics. He also went around quite a few E&D clubs last year giving GK clinics over a couple of nights, enough to show the basics to the lads and to show some of the coaches some training drills that would utilize the keepers in a more meaningful way with the rest of the squad.

I think also he's looking after Ad City's and Western strikers keepers now.

Underdale is a bit far for the Northern suburbs and some of the age groups start a bit early to get there after work, but if you live in the Western Suburbs might be worth a look
