Manchester City

Post by Piola »

I actually feel sorry for the true fans, the guys who've been there from the start

if this was my club I would be so disgusted, I'd hope for relegation
Al Fahim was perhaps being more honest than most buyers, not claiming there was anything special about City, acknowledging that his backers "were attracted to the Premier League itself" and might have bid for Arsenal, Liverpool or Newcastle United. Nor did he declare that he or any Al Nahyan is, or has ever been, a dedicated follower of English football. The reason for the purchase of City was made quite clear: it is for the greater glory of Abu Dhabi.
and here's a great comment on the whole thing

Not quite sure how many times I have to say I support Palace for you to understand, but I'll say it again. You may have been waiting for over thirty years since your last trophy, my club has never won one in its 103 year history, and is unlikely to win one in my lifetime.

I hope you enjoy giving shit to Manchester United, because with this takeover, Manchester City have become everything that you hate about them.

Oh, and next time you're in England, I hope you don't intend to go to a city game, because the bandwagoners will ensure that the stadium is sold out with people who can't name you any other player except Robinho (most of whom will confuse him with Ronaldinho) and if you do manage to find a ticket, you'll probably have to take out 12 mortgages on your house to be able to afford it.

Your new owners want money from the club. Just like the Glazer's at United. They don't give a fuck about your club, and as soon as there is no more money to be made from it, they will fuck off and leave you on your own. So there's your warning. If it happens, don't come on here looking for sympathy, because you won't get it.
They can buy Kaka, Ronaldo, Messi, whoever they like - won't change the fact that they have absolutely no history, the Manchester derby isn't comparable with the other great derbies of the world, and nearly everyone you meet in future that claims to be a City fan will have been one since 2009.

what a f**king joke your club and this league has become.

every day I hear this, i say thank f*ck for the ultras, even thank their violence. If Italy ever goes down the foreign route, they'll be the last protecting the game.

what a load of bollox. we have a rich proud history starting 1894 and our derby is as passionate as any.

we're not that naive to think the arabs are life long city fans. Its just a means to promote their own cause - if it is to our advantage, then bring it on.

why should we feel guilty when given the chance to compete in a competition that is dominated by an exclusive group of clubs. its ok for the man u, leverpoool, juves, inters, reals, baca's to dominate their own competitions but you get criticised when somebody new come along. its not just about the G-14 clubs.

i'm sure the old chelsea supporters arnt wishing for the old days when there now watching chelsea in the champs league or pressing for the tiltle. I dont think it will mean city will dominate the epl or europe, hopefully it will mean the big 4 becomes the big 5 - hopefully other clubs like us will find resources to make it the big 6, 7, 8.

we've had plenty of down times, i know i'd rather be winning anything that playing for a 5 - 10 spot at best in the epl year in year out.

doesnt matter if italy goes down th foreign route, the fact is your competition is just like the epl, dominated by an exclusive group of clubs. how many times has inter / juve / milan won your title - comparable to the manus / liverpool / arsenal.

those of us from the start think its fckn "Brazilliant!!!!!!!!!!!".

big clubs are big clubs...don't think I'm against having them (although I don't like them)

you have a proud history, but its not one of a big club is it?? These guys will try and make you something you aren't. You can't buy the prestige that clubs have from winning titles over decades upon decades.

I have nothing against Citeh the club, I just hate this concept of buying your way into the big time.

I still remember when we were a decently sized club in Italy with only 1 league title, nothing else, my cousins have told me of the Serie B days when we packed out small provincial grounds, Fiorini and Poli ending the dreams of 2 battler clubs at the end of 1987, then Cragnotti came along with similar dreams to Abramovich, with 1 key difference. He was actually a Lazio supporter (to some extent).

one of the best lineups in the world we had, just like City soon will. How long did it last??? 1997-2003, and even that's stretching it.

our competition isnt up for discussion but seeing as you're interested, there are a great spread of clubs capable of breaking major successes without requiring billionaire owners because the game hasn't turned that way yet. It might, but Italy is behind England financially and these Arabs have little interest in a league like the Serie A which has too many image and admin problems to make profits.

I dont mean to be a cunt, but I think it ruins football for the majority.

This billionaire of Man City is crazy: $240 mill for Ronaldo, $135 mill for Kaka', $70 mill for Buffon & $32 mill for Ronaldinho. What's next he'll buyout the world and will force us to build giant monuments and become slaves to his empire. These billionaires are killing football and turning players into mercenaries it must stop.

I agree here the EPL is sinking into a big playground for the worlds mega rich, they buy and sell clubs like we buy and sell cars. They have no love for the club. The Man City supporters will jump for joy while their world super squad win trophy after trophy. Their supporters will be forced to pay $250 to get to the game, to support the money chasing (don't blame them) supperstars on 20million pound plus per annum, while their academy and youth system will fall apart. Only time they will care is when someone richer (if that is possible) buys another club and buys all their players.

My own club Sheffield Wednesday will never win anything unless a white knight (billionaire buys) buys us. I have and always support my team.
You are right Il Duce, wait till next year everyone will be wearing Man City shirts with Robinho, and all the other stars they buy on their backs.

I woulds say some of the big passion games would be (not always for the biggest crowd).

Man Utd v Liverpool
WHU v Millwall
Wolves v West Brom
Arsenal v Spurs
Leeds v Man Utd/Liverpool
Newcastle v Sunderland.
Leeds v Sheff Wed/Sheff Utd.
Cheslea v Tottenham/Arsenal.

there really isn't big derbies in england i would say WHU vs Millwall is the biggest because the fans are loyal. unlike the supporters of the rest especially the big four who's support is plastic. they may believe they are loyal supporters but they have absolutely no pull to the club as ultras do in other parts of europe.

too right nachoman :D :D

interesting comments from all.. football in england sold out years ago, were all the naysayers bagging abramovich?chelsea boys were'nt..have too agree with blue moon, we may not have been top 4 but a proud history and a big club in our own right.. if you dont think we have been for all these years you don't know much about english football!! who holds the record crowd for a game in england outside cup finals?? yes we do, now for such a small club would of thought this unlikely!!!

hasn't the epl become boring with the same 4 winning everything for years??? now it may become(hopefully) 1 more team, which may encourage another wealthy investor to buy someone else which creates more challengers.

Your new owners want money from the club. Just like the Glazer's at United. They don't give a shiraz about your club, and as soon as there is no more money to be made from it, they will shiraz off and leave you on your own. So there's your warning. If it happens, don't come on here looking for sympathy, because you won't get it

wtf? the arab owners are NOT in it to make money, they have enough of that already and whatever they could possibly make out of a football club would still be just chump change to them. Just like Abramovich, these guys are in it for the nothing more than having a plaything and a vehicle to have their name in the forefront of the worlds sporting media , it is about status and notoriety, not money for these guys.
I don't think people realize just how much money these guys have
The owners at Manu and Liverpool are in it to make money but they are small fry, they talk in millions, they are a long long way from the RA's and Arab oil barons of the world
RA and the Arabs guys talk in billions there is a huge difference , they dont care what they spend, and they definitely are not looking at the need to make money from a football club

Exactly, well said, they aren't in it to make money, thats like a millionaire putting a grand into a savings account for the interest. They are doing it for 2 reasons i reckon, 1)EGO 2) They like football and want to be involved... a mixture of both probably 90% (1) and 10% (2)

Cragnotti did more bad for the game than good, but at least he was a laziale putting money into the club he supported.

for the good of the game?

that was gone years ago...epl has been run by 4 clubs for years , about time someone else had a chance, so my team found a rich sugar daddy, not ideal but we dont live in an ideal world and at least before my time is up my team may just win something!! City just seem to have found the biggest daddy of them all so i dont care what supporters of italian sides think about our good fortune, like someone else said chelsea fans have been very happy since abramovich helped their club become one of the game elite clubs so as long as the club goes forward myself and probably most City fans will be thinking "brilliant". When we line up with the big names (maybe not ronaldo, fabragas etc)but there obviously will be big names we will think back to the days when city were getting 33,000 in the third division ten years ago playing players like tiatto, dickov etc and decide our takeover is a good thing for Manchester City...so to anyone that thinks its bad news
