Stuff like this is going to spell the death of football. La Liga is going to lag behind because of the fact that the clubs are owned by the members and that cannot change. Serie A will probably lag behind as well if they don't start getting some billionaires.

Coming from a supporter of a club who sign players for shirt sales.

Dont worry, Serie A hasn't sold its soul, the fact that Roma can still challenge for a title shows that...Roman Gladiator 04 wrote:what is happening to football?

......because Beckham wasn't a quality player or anything, you think that the players that sell shirts sell them because they're quality players and besides can you hardly blame us??? We don't have billionaires backing us, it's one of the only things we can do to increase our revenue.Translator wrote:Madridista612 wrote:Stuff like this is going to spell the death of football. don't blame me, even Figo referred to the whole Galatico episode as a circus act.Madridista612 wrote: ......because Beckham wasn't a quality player or anything, you think that the players that sell shirts sell them because they're quality players and besides can you hardly blame us??? Cry me a river a Real supporter whinging about not being able to spend on players. Aren't you the same guy who boasts about being able to buy all the best players whenever Real want?
Moratti has spent over the years but at least the man and his family are pure Inter & football fans. He doesn't buy just for the sake of selling a shirt, cares only about results.
Not many clubs in world football can boast their presidency being run by the same family for over a quarter of their existance.
For me Modern Football started in America with Cosmos, Berlusconi took a leaf out of the Yank media handbook and introduced it to Europe.
Now the Yanks & Arabs are here just to drive the price up further.

The Galacticos would have been good if there was balance in defence, virtually unstoppable, they were virtually unstoppable WITHOUT the defenders so with the defenders they would have dominated. Real DID buy the best players whenever they wanted, Roberto Carlos, Beckham, Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo, Owen all of them were the best in the world at one stage.Translator wrote:don't blame me, even Figo referred to the whole Galatico episode as a circus act.Madridista612 wrote: ......because Beckham wasn't a quality player or anything, you think that the players that sell shirts sell them because they're quality players and besides can you hardly blame us??? About the whole Moratti thing.....who cares, football club is run by the same family, I just find that so irrelevant to the conversation but anyway.

It's relevant and the reason behind its relevance is in your own post. Moratti buys players in an attempt to make his team win trophies nothing else. So although he may have spent his intentions were pure.Madridista612 wrote: The Galacticos would have been good if there was balance in defence, virtually unstoppable, they were virtually unstoppable WITHOUT the defenders so with the defenders they would have dominated. Real brought what they thought were the best players for selling shirts, all the time they lacked defenders and defensive midfielders but weren’t interested in building a football team just bringing in more circus acts for the circus. Yet you call yourself a “football fan”. Even gave away players like Cambiasso & Makelele when it was screaming obvious that they were exactly what the side needed.
Real Madrid with the Galaticos was to football what the Harlem Globetrotters were to basketball.
Like I said even Figo admitted that.

I think that UEFA will need to step it not healthy for the game to have such mega wealth going in the hands of a few clubs.
But other than draconian measures such as salary caps and squad size limitations I don't know what the answer is.

Do that and they'll just make a breakaway super league which will be even worse cause it'll kill international football as well as club football.ozzie owl wrote:I think that UEFA will need to step it not healthy for the game to have such mega wealth going in the hands of a few clubs.

nothing to do but wait until one of these clubs goes bust like Lazio did or worse.

Too late for that, the players already have a taste for the cash, they'll end up going on strike like the US baseballers did.ozzie owl wrote: But other than draconian measures such as salary caps and squad size limitations I don't know what the answer is.

Re: Abu Dhabi boss plans $240mn Ronaldo swoop
what if they stop the owners from spending more than a turn over % constantly, i.e. 3 years in a row. They already do a similar thing with Governments debts in the EU. This still allows clubs to grow, but puts a cap on it.Translator wrote:Too late for that, the players already have a taste for the cash, they'll end up going on strike like the US baseballers did.ozzie owl wrote: But other than draconian measures such as salary caps and squad size limitations I don't know what the answer is.

the strike nearly killed baseball...infact it never really recovered
i dont have a problem with them offering money around...its good for the premier league. i hope QPR get promoted to!

Apparently they told Real Madrid they had a blank check for Ruud
Owner reckons they will buy whoever they want and win the champions league, sounds a bit too drastic to me. Although if they pay 200million pounds for Cesc we can pay off our stadium
Looks like we will be feeling all this at the bowser!
