a great performance by them.
Lavezzi, man I love this bloke. What a dynamic talent he is shiraz.

Roma
had their chances, will be disappointed not to win especially with the
numerical advantage there. Napoli for mine though, deserved no less
than a point for their game today. Takes a great effort to play like
that at the Olimpico

6 minutes of recupero, f*ck off

and plenty of bombe a carte let off

great stuff

ROME, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Naples fans fought with police and railway workers when they boarded a Rome-bound train without tickets on Sunday, police and railway officials said.

Passengers were forced to disembark, four railway workers were slightly injured and the interiors of several carriages were damaged.
The fans effectively occupied the train in Naples and, after they refused to get off, police advised regular passengers to disembark and take other trains.
Police ordered the train with the fans to leave Naples for public security reasons, the railway officials said.
The train left some three hours late and more minor scuffles were reported outside Rome's Olympic stadium between police and Naples fans.
Passengers, who had to change their plans, were outraged.
'It is disgusting that a group of thugs could be allowed to do this to us,' one woman who had to change her travel plans told an Italian television station.

LETS JUST PUT IT DOWN TO EXCITMENT BEING THE 1ST GAME OF THE SEASON!! US NAPS HAVE GOT HARD HEADS.

Roma 1 - 1 Napoli
Aquilani 29 (R), Hamsik 55 (N)
Stadio Olimpico

Roma were unable to get the better of 10-man Napoli at the Olimpico, as Marek Hamsik secured a point in the capital.

This was the 124th Derby del Sole and traditionally a fiery occasion between historic rivals. Last season it ended in a spectacular 4-4 draw, but this time around the Giallorossi had to do without the injured Francesco Totti, Rodrigo Taddei and Simone Perrotta. Napoli too had problems with Roberto De Zerbi and Maurizio Domizzi sitting out bans, while Mannini and Mariano Bogliacino were injured.

It was a moving occasion for Roma, as it was the first Serie A season since 1983 to begin without President Franco Sensi, who died earlier this month, so his wife Maria placed flowers on the seat that was his for 15 years and a minutes' silence was held. His place at the club has been taken by daughter Rosella, the first female President in Italian top flight football.

Julio Baptista and John Arne Riise made their Serie A debuts and Cicinho returned after a training ground row with Luciano Spalletti.

Philippe Mexes threw himself at a cross to anticipate Gustavo German Denis, but in doing so would've scored an own goal had it not been for a fantastic Alexander Doni reaction save!

Roma broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark through Alberto Aquilani. Daniele De Rossi's ball over the top was chested down and flicked in by Aquilani, although the Napoli defence left him far too much space.

Gennaro Iezzo blocked a Julio Baptista effort from the edge of the box and Denis' header was off target. Mirko Vucinic incredibly failed to make it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time, as he combined with Aquilani to go clear on goal only to place a very weak shot into the grateful arms of Iezzo.

Roma were piling on the pressure and Iezzo palmed away an Aquilani strike that was just a few centimetres beyond the reach of Mexes from six yards.

Walter Gargano's free kick curled inches over the bar at the start of the second half, then a Denis left-foot drive skimmed the far post.

The visitors were more sprightly after the break, as Ezequiel Lavezzi skipped past three defenders to flash a shot across the face of goal, then Marek Hamsik missed a great chance from Gargano's assist.

Napoli's hopes of getting back into the game were seemingly dashed when Fabiano Santacroce stuck out a leg for a cynical foul to stop Vucinic's counter. It was his second bookable offence.

However, moments later 10-man Napoli equalised. A corner kick was nodded towards Hamsik by Denis, flicked on to the crossbar and then Hamsik acrobatically netted the loose ball.

Luciano Spalletti threw on new signing Jeremy Menez for his Serie A debut, moving Marco Cassetti back into defence. Aquilani wasted a remarkable chance six yards from an open goal, as he didn't adjust his body in time for De Rossi's cross and deflected over with his stomach.

Roma were seemingly unable to take advantage of the extra man and struggled to break down the Napoli defence. Instead, Doni had to rush out to push the ball off the feet of Lavezzi in a one-on-one situation.

With three minutes left on the clock, Doni had to stick out a foot to parry another Lavezzi attempt. Menez should've scored the winner on his debut, but weakly hit the ball straight at Iezzo from point-blank range!

Menez created another good opportunity in stoppages, but this time Stefano Okaka Chuka was too hasty and wasted it.

Roma: Doni; Cicinho (Menez 64), Juan, Mexes, Riise (Tonetto 72); De Rossi, Pizarro; Cassetti, Aquilani, Baptista (Okaka 83); Vucinic

Napoli: Iezzo; Santacroce, Cannavaro, Contini; Maggio, Blasi, Gargano, Hamsik (Pazienza 76), Vitale (Rinaudo 67); Lavezzi, Denis (Zalayeta 84)

Ref: Rizzoli

Sent off: Santacroce 54 (N)

Very proud, not just of the effort, but we outplayed roma for periods - with 10 men it was a massive effort, not many teams will go to Olimpico to claim a point (maybe only when the play Lazio)

I was angry with Lavezzi, he could have won the game for us 3 times - but dio cane what a player - he will only get better - his determination to run at players is massive - nothing frightens him.

Hamsik was good and Gargano is the most under rated player going around.

Bit worried about Contini starting all he wants to do is smash the long balls. Denis looked good in his first official game - I am confident we can beat benfica.

Where was Mannini?????? Vitale is a good stand in for now, given his age, but we need mannini back on the left.

Mannini is injured at the moment. Contini just won a spot over Rinaudo, but expect to see both starting the next game with Santacroce suspended.

blasi worked so hard as did gargano & santacroce is a star.

a great performance until his bookings.

thought Santacroce had a dirty day myself, wasn't his poor clearance and failure to get back on Aquilani that lead to the opener.

Don't see the Naps a lot but Gargano is a star

My first thought when Santacroce lost the ball that led to the goal was that it was a foul. Though I didn't see a replay of the 'foul' afterward, so I'm not too sure.

foul wasn't given so it wasn't a foul, just like Ibra's handball was disguised well enough for Inter's opener. He had enough time to clear, if you want to play it out and get caught......

Those days of Italian football were fouls aren't given deliberately are gone........for now :P

great game to watch, napoli really impressed me
Roma were lucky not to lose
Lavezzi all class, especially when he took the pisssss out of three roma defenders, only to shoot wide. And the throu ball he got, only to hit Doni
Great goal from Hamsik, the innocent lookin young kid
Slovak Hamsik was in the thick of it all, he is goin to be a real star, Gargano worked his guts out

Best for Napoli - Gargano, Lavezzi, Hamsik

Best Roma - Doni, Aquilani

Santacroce was silly with the 2nd yellow, but the partenopei held on for a draw, should of won it though
What a game, fantastic end to end stuff. Who says Serie A is boring??

And WTF

Napoli fear San Paolo sanctions

Napoli may be forced to play home fixtures on neutral soil for up to three months after violent clashes involving Partenopei fans yesterday.

The Azzurri managed a highly creditable 1-1 draw with Roma at the Stadio Olimpico but scenes off the pitch have once more tarnished the image of Italian football.

A Napoli fan was arrested for possessing a knife in the ground and a number of similar weapons were confiscated by police officers around the stadium.

After the game, there were worrying scenes at Naples' main train station as nearly a hundred Vesuviani fans rampaged and did serious damage to a train.

“There is bitterness and regret about what happened,” Italian Football Federation Giancarlo Abete stated.

“These hooligans don't represent football and we hope that they don't get into stadiums because their actions don't belong in our society.”

There will be an investigation into the events and consumer association Codacons has demanded “the maximum penalty”, which represents a three-month ban on the use of the Stadio San Paolo.
