Corluka deal agreed We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Manchester City for the transfer of Vedran Corluka to the Club.
The defender, 22, is an international team-mate of Luka Modric and has been capped 24 times by Croatia, playing in every match of the recent European Championships.
Corluka came through the ranks at Dynamo Zagreb and after a season on loan at NK Inter Zapresic, won successive titles with Dynamo in 2006 and 2007.
He left for the Premier League and Manchester City in August 2007, where he featured at right-back, centre-back and in midfield, making 41 appearances in all competitions.
Corluka said: "I am delighted to be here because I am coming to a big club with great players, great ambition and also my best friend [Luka Modric] is here so it is a very happy day for me."

YEEHH Corluka, quality signing, did very well for Man City last season. Hopefully Sergio Garcia and Milito are nearly Spurs players, would be super signings. Although its unsure whether Garcia is going to come to spurs are supposedly were still intent on Arshavin. Veloso is also another target that we will apparently be looking at pulling in before the window closes! Exciting few hours to come Spurs fans.

Spurs seem to and come out no worse off financially (just on the pitch some times) but now I think it's the wage bill of the squad that will stretch the resources. Pay well to keep the best to challenge for top 6.

Woodgate and Corluka are the best defenders we've signed in a while
Where we going to fit him in though?
Just behind Modric? Or in the defence?

Well if we spend any more a top 6 finish is the least we should expect although we have been in similar situations before and we all know how they have turned out

CITY MAKE BERBATOV BID - REPORTS
Posted 01/09/08 11:54EmailPrintSave
Manchester City are reported to have launched an audacious attempt to sign Dimitar Berbatov from under the noses of city rivals Manchester United following their takeover by an Abu Dhabi investment group.
With Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment understood to have agreed a deal to buy City from the disgraced Thaksin Shinawatra on Sunday night, the Manchester Evening News reports that a 'dramatic 11th hour bid for United's number one target Dimitar Berbatov' has been sanctioned.
The newspaper claims that the Abu Dhabi group's 'first instruction to the Blues was to try and lure Berbatov for a reputed £28m.'
The Bulgarian is nonetheless expected to complete his long-awaited transfer to Manchester United later today with other reports suggesting that Frazier Campbell will be used as a makeweight in the deal.

I assume Corluka will battle with Hutton for right back and he will give King a chance to rest a bit and can fill in at centre back.
Come on Spurs, hurry up and sign Milito, Garcia or Arshavin already.

There it is! Confirmation that Spurs have reached agreement with Manchester United over the permanent signing of Dimitar Berbatov for a fee of £30.75m. Part of that agreement stipulates that Spurs will not pursue its official complaint over United's pursuit of the player. And Fraizer Campbell has gone the other way on loan

Re: Tottenham Hotspur 08/09 season
im a bit dissapointed we couldnt get Milito and Garcia, i think were a bit light in the striking department. I hope this Fraizer Campbell is good enough for first team and can score goals in EPL. We have made around 90million in player sales this window and only spent around 55million i think, i would expect some strikers to be heading to the lane in January as top priority as we have the defence pretty much sorted.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur 08/09 season
In January we brought in four international players and this summer saw us add no fewer than eight more:
Goalkeepers- Heurelho Gomes, along with former Spanish international goalkeeper Cesar Sanchez.
Defender- Vedran Corluka;
Midfielders- Luka Modric, David Bentley;
Strikers- Roman Pavlyuchenko, Giovani dos Santos and Fraizer Campbell.
Following the conclusion of the summer transfer window Sporting Director Damien Comolli offered his thoughts:
"I think we got a lot of the players we wanted and early. We decided to make these changes because we feel we're beginning a new cycle, so we had to think about building a team with a future, and that's exactly what we've done. We are younger, there is more depth, and we know that everyone we have brought in is absolutely committed to the Club.
"The fact that so many of the players have international experience is a big plus, but it wasn't the Euros that helped us make our decisions. For example, we signed Luka before the Finals. Watching the players on that stage is simply confirmation. It's very important to have international experience in your squad, but these players are young as well. This is exactly what we wanted and Juande likes players who are young and hungry, but who have experience at the same time, especially of playing on the international stage.
"I am particularly disappointed that we were unable to make one additional signing, another experienced striker. The deal was agreed but fell through in the final moments due to agent activity. It is all too often that judgments are made on how these deals are or are not concluded and the reality and the reasoning that happens is often very different and highly unpredictable.
"Two of our new signings, Vedran and Roman are cup-tied for the UEFA Cup and whilst this is not ideal, we shall work with the whole team to produce good performances. We are building a squad for the league and future seasons and we are all looking forward to getting on with playing football now."
The summer transfer window also, however, included transfer requests from two key members of the squad, Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov.
"There are no guarantees in football and this summer we found ourselves having to deal with the unexpected challenge of both our leading goalscorers making it clear they wished to leave the club," commented Chairman, Daniel Levy.
"I have already stated my opinion on the manner in which our players were approached and the nature of the negotiations surrounding Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov. Yesterday's events were further evidence of the need for the Premier League to review the system.
"I have also previously said that we had no need to sell players on long contracts - this no longer remains practical. The decisions we took to allow the transfers of Berbatov and Keane were made after close discussions with the coaching staff. Juande was clear, and I believe correct, in not wishing to embrace any player within the dressing room that had no desire to play for the badge of this club and for his teammates. Under these circumstances we had no option but to sell these players.
"I should hope that fans look at our squad today and acknowledge the undoubted talent and quality of our new signings, but I cannot deny that I share with them a disappointment that we couldn't add further to replace attacking options.
"It has also been the case again that because we have been a buyer in the transfer marketplace we have been subjected to much speculation and our name has been connected to deals and situations that we had nothing to do with; attempts by selling clubs to push the value of players up has also seen us wrongly accused of not wishing to pay certain sums, again unfounded.
"It was always our intention to continue to invest in the team. For the record, our spend this summer was in the region of £77m and we brought in £72m in player sales. We were fully prepared to spend further, but quality players remain hard to secure.
"We would be remiss to allow the departures of two players to overshadow the many exciting talents that joined the Club this summer. I know that there is a terrific team spirit amongst them and that, whilst young, we have a team we believe we can forge into a strong competitive unit."
We also said farewell to Paul Robinson, Radek Cerny, Tommy Forecast, Pascal Chimbonda, Younes Kaboul, Anthony Gardner, Teemu Tainio, Steed Malbranque, Joe Martin and Young-Pyo Lee.
We wish them well for the future.
I bet you that deal was for Arshavin but his fucking wanker of an agent pulled it at the last minute, we definetley needed that extra striker im so fucking pissed of

We didn't sign Arshavin because the Russians wanted the whole amount straight away and thats not how we do business. I can see us signing a striker in January, we have Bent and Campbell to spearhead our Euro trip

Re: Tottenham Hotspur 08/09 season
On a side note, who watched the Chelsea game? how good was the Tottenham support! you could hear them through the whole match, at one point there was a Lampard chant, it was Spurs supporters singing to a fat Chelsea supporter 'are you lampard in disguise' they didn't let off for the whole game, eventually the guy got so angry that he got thrown out of the ground.....quality!
As for the Starting 11 against Villa
Gomes
Corluka King WOODGATE Bale
Bentley Modric Jenas Lennon
Pav and Bent
Seems a shame because Zok had a great game against Chelsea, maybe use him more in the away games. How good is Woodgate!!!! the Woody/King partnership is as good as any of the top teams, I wouldn't say better but Carv/Terry, Vidic/Ferdin aren't any better than our two. Arse and Pool aren't as good.

WHAATT why would you play Corluka in defensive midfield!?? Zokora all the way, if it wasnt of Didier we would have been run over by Chelsea!! He played sooo well. I think we need him playin above the back 4 every game coz he adds that bit of steel to our team and he really did well, our team is 2 attack minded, without Zokora hanging back Jenas and Modric get caught forward and we are overun.
