This is football

Post by Piola »

Jose Mourinho dedicated the Super Cup to Roberto Mancini and said this 2-2 draw is “a great response” to those who say Italian football is boring!

“We wanted to win this trophy and I'd say we deserved it, as we did more over the 120 minutes to earn this Cup,” he said after lifting the Italian Super Cup.

Inter were leading twice, but Roma came back for 2-2 and it was only decided in a sudden death penalty shoot-out.

“I believe we played very, very well, but must admit Roma did brilliantly too. For all those abroad who say Italian football is boring, this match is a great response!

“We got four goals, endless chances and spot-kicks, so it was certainly not lacking in drama. If everyone plays like Inter and Roma, then you'll get very entertaining sport.”

This is Mourinho's first piece of silverware in Italian football and since taking over at Inter.

“I have always had a bad record with penalties, losing the Cup in England last year and then the Champions League semi-final. Plus my Chelsea, albeit with another Coach, lost the Champions League Final on spot-kicks.

“I want to point out that I have won the Italian Super Cup, but I could only participate in it because Mancini won the Scudetto, so he deserves a portion of this trophy for all the good work he did with this team.”

Sounds like it would have been a good game to see. Anybody stay up to perhaps see if it was on Rai or try an internet stream?

Well Mourinho said it so it MUST be true!
Isnt it funny how managers always will praise the league they are currently employed in?

Isn't it funny how so many people on here love to take digs at Italian football even though they dont have the channel required to watch it?

Hoof it long son, hoof it long. So glad the real thing starts this week. Suffering from so much football withdrawal Ive been turning to the PL.

Mouthwatering lineup this week, Fiorentina-Juve, Derby del Sole, Samp-Inter, Udinese-Palermo....

Why bother even making this topic..by quoting Mourinho you are not proving anything..of course he's gonna praise the league he's currently involved in..If he'd gone to Barcelona he would be saying the same thing about La Liga right now..

All you've done by making this is start the Premier League VS Serie A argument again..which will never be resolved..so just stop bringing it up, it's the biggest waste of time.

got up switch on RAI saw it wasn't on and went back to bed just waiting for the occasional update from inter.it.

Had to laugh, never been a big fan of the supercoppa but having capitano score the winning penalty was pure class, harsh on Totti but eh
penalties

worse thing about living in this country, if it wasn't bad enough having to put up with the timezone we get crap coverage.

Pretty much madridista!!!!

you turn a celebration of life and humanity projected onto a field in the form of 22 men playing one beautiful game, into a pict of riots and flares and cheating yet still think it is ok to claim it is the best competition in the world???? what do you honestly beleive football is in its truest form?? a 90th minute penalty to cause drama?? 5 red cards to prove that your watching two passionate teams?? i dont think so! football in its purest form cannot be categorised into one league and you most certainly couldnt name that league. there are millions of different opinions about hundreds of different leagues worldwide and to display the pros and cons would be stupid, you ask why people have a crack at a league they do not watch?? perhaps its people like you that tell everyone its a fantastc league and they watch it and say nah not for me?
perhaps in some peoples eyes its just not nice to watch?
perhaps its is the best league in the world and everyone but a handful of people (including myself) are wrong?

all im saying is if you like it fine, dont tell other people that they're league is rubbish........ where i come from you would be called a hypocrit!!

To be honest I didn't really read all of it. I don't get into "this league is better than that league" arguments.

Ulivieri laughs off EPL attack Wednesday 27 August, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Veteran Coach Renzo Ulivieri responded to a damning article in The Times by blasting the Premier League as “anything but English.”

In yesterday’s edition of his column, Oliver Kay wrote that Serie A is “a retirement home for ageing footballers or a get-rich-quick scheme for those who lacked ambition” and “a long way short of the Premier League.”

The article was reproduced in La Gazzetta dello Sport and fired up former Bologna boss Ulivieri.

“It’s the pot calling the kettle black,” sniped the President of the Italian Coaches’ Association.

“England has a nice League, but if you look carefully they have foreign Coaches, the vast majority are foreign players and even foreign club owners come in from all over the world.

“I really doubt they are in any position to criticise Italian football. Besides, I certainly wouldn’t say that Ronaldinho or Andriy Shevchenko are old.”

Last year it was confirmed that the Premier League had the highest number of foreign players in its sides, while 10 of the 20 Coaches this term are not English.

Italian tactician Fabio Capello has also been hired to take charge of the England squad.

In Serie A there is only one foreign Coach this season – Jose Mourinho at Inter - and not a single overseas club owner.

Interesting point Getborn, but just a cautious note, the side with the least number of Italians was the winner of Serie-A last season...

Who cares it is all football, it is all sport and I love them all , some games are better than others , some of the biggest teams play crap football sometimes and other times they are sublime.

I will watch whatever football comes my way,

im aware of this & i am not proud nor am i denying of the fact italys premier side is full of foriegners.

however it is far far far more common in the epl,,, thats the point.
