Re: FFSA Metropolitan Competition
Just looked on SAASL, when did they drop out. They used to have an amateur team in sunday div 1/2 and their fed side. I presume they folded then.robinfriday10 wrote:nab? wot league are their amateurs in??

I am not sure about the other clubs with FFSA links, but MSSC Blue Eagles (amateurs) are financially independent of the Adelaide Blue Eagles and I think you will find the same of San Marco (who play at Campbelltown's ground).

Maybe the FFSA might instruct their teams who share their grounds with SAASL amateur sides, kick the amateur sides out unless they join the Metropolitan league
That might affect a few teams !

Re: FFSA Metropolitan Competition
This came up in conversation the other day and I don't think it would be that simple - ultimately it is the club's decision as to who uses their grounds and facilities, whether they play in the Metro league, SAASL, collegiate or otherwise. It would be very difficult to enforce.swannsong wrote:post # 4739

Nah they pulled out the league. The following year, us (Ingle Farm) and Para Hills East were promoted and so was Fulham to take over NAB's spotHawkesy wrote:i'm pretty sure they didn't in the first year and got relegated.Jay Walking wrote:Yeah when NAB joined the State League they removed their Amatuer Team
Re: FFSA Metropolitan Competition
would this new league take crowd violence more seriously and actually kick out the trouble teams, say black eagles and tigers after their recent incedent, and not let teams back in with different names?
if that happens and there is a crack down in discipline from this new league i believe it could last as people want a safe environment to play in and the FFSA could provide a safe amatuer league, i think people will join.
just have to see whats the finer details are and if they will be strict on what teams they accept...

Re: FFSA Metropolitan Competition
My guess this league will primarily be used as a reserve league for the reserves league.

Re: FFSA Metropolitan Competition
One of the main benefits for the Federation clubs running teams in the Metro League would be for those clubs to keep hold of their 'over the hill' type of player come family man, who would normally run off and pick up his pocket money with a Sunday Div 1 or 2 team.
Will be very interesting to see how the regulate they the movement of players, if they do at all. Under the current National Registration Regulations, [NRR] they won't need any more rules, so a player could one week play in the Super League get injured and slowly work his way back through the Metro League club, assuming of course, they will allow contracted players play in the metro League?

Rumours I have heard, is the FFSA will require State/Premier/Super League clubs to have an amateur side.

Correct - the heavy hand of the FFSA is coming down. All FFSA clubs must have a team in the Metropolitan Competition in 2009.Fun Coola wrote:Rumours I have heard, is the FFSA will require State/Premier/Super League clubs to have an amateur side.

Aldo> Why do you call it heavy handed? It's no different to saying to clubs you have to have a reserve side, a youth team and junior teams.
I would call it part of the affiliation rules and if clubs do their sums correctly it will be a cost neutral exercise and will help them regain some lost ground when they changed the rules in the early 1990's from having a reserve grade to making them U23's. Now a lot of their 'old boys' can stay at the club and still enjoy the social side of things.

So, they are establishing a consultative process, but are telling FFSA clubs they MUST have a Metro comp team up and running in 2009?! And they haven't released affiliation fees, costs, etc to clubs yet either. As a current SAASL club that is affiliated (yet independent) of an FFSA club, it is a logical choice for us to become ABE's Metro League representative. But we will need some time to consider whether the move is good for our club or not - however if the FFSA puts pressure on ABE to have a team ready by 2009, we will need to make a choice sooner rather than later.
MSSC Blue Eagles has been a part of the SAASL since 1979, so it is not an easy choice to walk away from a league that we have contributed to for 29 years and into a league that we still know little about except for a basic framework.

Re: FFSA Metropolitan Competition
I dont want the FFSA to take the SAASL's money for their own benefit.. This is unfair.
Let the FFSA have their own league - sounds to me like it will end up as an over 35's type league. Those clubs WONT have funds available to pay players in the metro comp, and the amateur side to the club WONT have any means of raising their own money if the matches are to be played at the fed pitches.. just on that - expect a lot of games to be postponed due to overuse of the pitch during a season.
Stand firm SAASL...
The only real issues I can see with our league are..
Refereeing - pay them more, match FFSA's payrate
Committee's - Banning the members of a "committee" of a club that has a poor disciplinary record, rather than a "club." If a club has repeated violence problems ultimately the committee is to blame for not having a suitable code of conduct or discipline within their club. Violent players and supporters need to be removed by the committee.
Life Bans of Players - Enforce it like any other country would

Re: FFSA Metropolitan Competition
Aren't most teams in The Superduper League/ Premier League and State League struggling financially already? If they are forced to field an Amateur Team surely this will make things worse. We share a ground with Panthers but I very very much doubt we would want to change over to the FFSA Competition - better the devil you know I say. Plus what would Raptors do without us?

Im sure Club committee members now are looking forward to spending their WHOLE weekend being taken up now, Feds on Saturday Amatuers on Sunday. :?
Why couldnt ' old boys ' stay at their clubs in the past? nothing to stop FFSA clubs from registrating teams in the SAASL.
If the Amatuers sides are going to be classified the same as youth and junior sides by FFSA clubs they can look forward to paying $400-$500 rego fees every year.
Re: FFSA Metropolitan Competition
Is the rumour I hear correct, COMETS (div 3 Sat) will be joing FFSA Metro Comp next year, even though they will be promoted to Div 2 SAASL?
Can anyone confirm??

Re: FFSA Metropolitan Competition
Aldo I understand your point of view and yes the fact that the FFSA has said [after waiting for so long for the SAASL to make a decision] that by 2009 we are going to be starting, shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. One of the key points when the the old SASF clubs decided to jump ship [same situation as we are now faced with] was the SAASL and what were the FFSA going to do about them. It was clearly stated then that by the start of the 2009 season there will be an Amateur club set up within the FFSA. The preferred option was for the SAASL to come on board and run it but they have chosen to do other wise, in their wisdom. So now the FFSA are just being true to their word and setting up an Amateur competition.Aldo Serena wrote:"A comprehensive consultative process with key stakeholders will commence immediately in order to establish the complete structure." - a direct quote from the FFSA media release.E. The clubs back in 2005/06 should have had the fore-sight to plan for this eventuality, one way or the other it was always going to happen.
Re: FFSA Metropolitan Competition
If what has been stated is true, that the fed teams will have to have an amateur teams, then it seems pretty obvious to me that Comets will move to the new league. Along with San Marco, Polonia, Blue Eagles and every other club that uses a state league ground or linked to one.Fun Coola wrote:Is the rumour I hear correct, COMETS (div 3 Sat) will be joing FFSA Metro Comp next year, even though they will be promoted to Div 2 SAASL?

Now Blue Eagles might be as seperate entity in the amateur league, but surely the easiest way for the fed club to set up will be to bring them on board. They will not want, a fed club, a metropolitan club and an amateur club all using the pitch so the simplest will be "Join the Metropolitan League under our banner, or don't use our pitches"

30 new clubs if this is true. Where are the players coming from? How will these new clubs persuade players to leave their current amateur clubs to join the Metropolitan League.
