“I am not here to develop players but to bring results." - Graham Arnold in response to queries on his Olyroos selection

Yep get rid of him, the Argentine game was an embrassement, they just played with them.
Re: Sack Arnold - pleeeeeeeeeeease!!
What a joke of an Olympics for the Olyroos.
Did they go to Beijing to practice their defending. Thats all they've done.

he didn't even live up to the comment. 1 goal in 3 games with a team good enough for the state league apart from spiranovic and federiciOnionBag wrote:“I am not here to develop players but to bring results." - Graham Arnold in response to queries on his Olyroos selection

Re: Sack Arnold - pleeeeeeeeeeease!!
he is not the only cause of the olyroos failure, but he is at much at fault as an individual as anyone else.
Obviously he made major mistakes in selections, not only burnsy & djite, but also the overagers.
If brazil can get ronaldinho to play, then why couldn't we at least get maybe scott macdonald or bresciano or someone to help solve the creativity & goal scoring problems.
And why was milligan playing in midfield? He's best position is centreback. Arnold has severely harmed his chances of finding a club in europe by playing him there. He looked average to say the least.
Should have left Jade North and Archie Thompson out, played milligan at CB, and brought in either Josh Kennedy or Scott Macdonald, and maybe culina, bresciano or grella in midfield.
Selection was not the only issue though. They played terribly in what at times looked like 5-4-1 formation with milligan so deep. They lacked any sort of composure or creativity with the ball in the oppositions half. They were far to rushed and looked like they were just guessing what they should do.
So in response to the question. GA has to go.

Re: Sack Arnold - pleeeeeeeeeeease!!
I agree that Arnold should be sacked. How he ever got the job in the first place is a mystery...
I think one of the major problems was that Australia's overage players were just not good enough. Most of the U23's are already as good as or better than Jade North or Archie Thompson, so the younger guys are probably not going to be inspired to perform better just because they are playing with them. Unfortunately, all of the better Socceroos have their seasons starting soon and most are first team players, so their clubs aren't gonna let them leave for the Olympics (which, lets face it, isn't really a great football tournament).
In terms of players who did play well I thought Federici was very impressive in goals, and basically kept the Olyroos in the games along with Spiranovic who was rock-solid in defence and showed great vision with his interceptions and last ditch tackles (loved that run me made against Serbia!). Finally I thought Carney was the best of the overage players. He always had an element of control when he was on the ball and was the only player who could take someone on and beat them.

Barcelona wouldnt let him play, however when he transferred to AC Milan it was in the agreement that they would let him play.hgd wrote: If brazil can get ronaldinho to play, then why couldn't we at least get maybe scott macdonald or bresciano or someone to help solve the creativity & goal scoring problems.
Re: Sack Arnold - pleeeeeeeeeeease!!
Then why is Messi playing? I think that was just an idol threat because they had no intention of keeping the player.skliro wrote:Barcelona wouldnt let him play, however when he transferred to AC Milan it was in the agreement that they would let him play.hgd wrote: If brazil can get ronaldinho to play, then why couldn't we at least get maybe scott macdonald or bresciano or someone to help solve the creativity & goal scoring problems.

Re: Sack Arnold - pleeeeeeeeeeease!!
Arnold has had his chances to show he can coach at this level and has failed miserably eavh time.
It's time he left and was replaced with a South American, Brazilian or Argentinian, who has won something.
We need our players to have much better skills and tactics than they are currently exposed to.
We need to focus far more on skills at Junior level and less on fitness and conditioning.
Name me one player we have produced in the last five years who has a reputation overseas for being skilfull?
Kewell & Viduka are the only players to come out of our coaching system with a reputation for skill.
Drastic changes are needed at all levels of the game - better coaches and more emphasis on developing young players than on results!

Re: Sack Arnold - pleeeeeeeeeeease!!
changing the coach is not the answer, 'you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear.'
We just don't have enough good players at this level, even if we had a stable full of class coaches fort this team I seriously doubt the results would have been any different, we might have got a result against a very ordinary Serbia but that's just about it.

Re: Sack Arnold - pleeeeeeeeeeease!!
All the steps foward Australia has been taking in the world of football. This performance at the olympics has been a step backwards.
Arnold had them playing boring football, with the right coach we could have reached a quater final or possibly semi-final.
Bottom Line sack him
he's pathetic!

You can't make honey (Hiddink) out of dog shit! (Arnold)
Sack the farkhed! In a way I'm so glad he fluffed it. It's just a shame the 2 players that not only deserved but helped the Olyroos qualify may never be able to play for Olympic glory...
Arnold was crap in the Asian Cup & he is crap at the Olympics.
He may be able to play but he is no coach! IMO

Re: Sack Arnold - pleeeeeeeeeeease!!
I normally dont like to criticise coaches without knowing the FULL story (behind the scenes, training regimes, selection policy etc etc), but he has had enough time, yet never seems to produce the goods. Time to go.
Do we get another Dutchman? Should Pim (like Dunga from Brazil) also control the olyroos? Who else would be ideal for the job?

I think we do have good enough players, at least to play better than we did. If Arnold had picked Burns and Djite, surely a system with big Bruce as the target man and Burns and Thompson/Rukavytsya playing off him would have worked better?E. The biggest joke of coaching......
even bigger than Steve McLearen.
No structure! The game against Ivory Coast, they had nothing going forward. Lacked in the final third.
PLEASE, hurry up and GO!

Re: Sack Arnold - pleeeeeeeeeeease!!
Just remember the coach is not playing, so if the guys actually pulled their fingers out they would actually play decent football.
Zadkovich, prime example, trying to look like a hard-ass with that hair-cut, he should be ashamed, he looked like a boxer not a footballer.
Troisi, didn't impact as I would've liked, not Arnold's fault there either, at the end of the day, we were out-played, out-coached. Between South America, Europe and Africa, Oceania is a long, long, long way behind.

Re: Sack Arnold - pleeeeeeeeeeease!!
the root of the problem stems right down to the way our juniors are coached. if australia wants better national teams in the next 10years they better invest millions in youth development otherwise this country will never have any hope of doing well against the rest of the world. that's basically it, you can't blame shit players for doing a shit job really and nor does a shit coach help that, we can only do as good as what we've got to work with.
