Re: Talent Identification Champs
Now that the croydon coach and his tactics has been referred to, I would like add that his coaching style is a worry. When my sons team played them they played 4 defenders on the 18 yard box for the whole game. The score was a draw, and afterwards he told his kids that it was a draw because my sons team was dirty. The second game my sons team won 2-0, and at the end he told his kids that my sons team were cheats. A BIG worry
Re: Talent Identification Champs
I haven't seen him coach; my son plays up an age group - U12's. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts though, PM if you want. Looks like I'm not coaching my son next year, time to give my daughter some time, so I'm looking at who should coach him.Zeljko Jurin wrote:I've also seen the u/11 North coach's defence setup at his club team.........a very big worry !!!!johnydep wrote:That's what I've been told. That's from the guidance notes sent out to clubs.![]()
I don't agree with it, not fair to the kids at Croydon.
Your thoughts johny, seeing you're like me with develop, develop, develop and not win, win, win, and then seeing what he does with his defence ???
As you mention, I'm for development. I want my son coached with the aim of developing and improving his skills and knowledge of the whole game. Seen too many people with only one aim - get to the top of the ladder no matter what. Does it matter at junior level?
As the saying goes - "let the kids play" and let them play in more that one position.

I'm not defending him, because I haven't seen him coach at a game, but -you must have big ears.harrycripps wrote:Now that the croydon coach and his tactics has been referred to, I would like add that his coaching style is a worry. And be fair - what club are you with?

For the record my son has played in 5 consecutive state championships and his age group has dominated each year, conceding 3 goals as a goalkeeper in 5 years in over 25 matches.
Wow thats a great achievement by your son - just out of interest which club does he play for, they must have some really good coaches there?
Re: Talent Identification Champs
Me thinks St Augustine in E&D maybe. My lad played in the first state champs win with the lad in Under 11s up at Broken Hill.

Re: Talent Identification Champs
He lines 4 defenders up across the field, straight as an arrow....as if he had used a string line, in between his 18 yard line and the halfway line. The 4 CANNOT move, cannot push up, and must just stand there and defend (boot the ball away). If his team moves forward, they cannot leave their line of four in their defensive half. When they had a corner down the other end (3/4 of the pitch away) I saw one defender with his arms crossed, and another one shivering from the cold, could not go up to atleast the halfway line, 4 of them just staying in a straight line in their own half, 3/4 of the pitch away. You have to see it to believe it !!!johnydep wrote:I haven't seen him coach; my son plays up an age group - U12's. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts though, PM if you want. But what then happens is that his midfielders have to run like dogs to defend when the opposition moves forward, because there is no defender until nearly the 18 yard line down the other end. The opposition forwards just need to sit on the half way line, receive the ball, and then they are free to move forward and try and slip a through ball through or over, the "great wall of china".

Re: Talent Identification Champs
good stuff - my young son is a Liverpool supporter and just starting to look into getting involved with Football and goal keeping is his go (we think!).
Is there goal keeping schools or academies out north or has your son had specialised GK coaching at St Augustine? I assume your son is not far off seniors where do you see him heading in 3-5years time once he moves into the senior ranks?
Oh we live not far from the Enfield area.
thanks

Re: Talent Identification Champs
My lad seems lucky enough to have a fair bit of natural ability but has also been fortunate to have some good coaching right through his junior years. He has had plenty of offers over the years from fed clubs but he has decided to stick with his team mates at this stage. I would assume he will have to go fed in the next year or two if he wants to further his soccer career.REDS wrote:good stuff - my young son is a Liverpool supporter and just starting to look into getting involved with Football and goal keeping is his go (we think!).

Re: Talent Identification Champs
My younger lad is a keeper (and also a Liverpool fan)and he trains with Chris Higgins of Goalkeeping SA. Chris is based at Gawler
Chris is great, a real stickler when it comes to technique, the other coach Jason, is real hard on fitness which is a must for keepers. Theres only one problem with Chris, he's a bloody Everton supporter
