Re: Cup Round Local Derby's
think both of these games are local yes and the grove vs vale use to be massive, but the grove isnt even a shadow of its former self and struggles to pull a crowd. and im pretty sure the downs arent to worried bout munno para even in the ressies. the games are big for the grove and para, but just another day at it for the big teams. but keep trying to pump up some average contests.

Beach Vs Wanderers.
New rivalry, with plenty of passion.
Just hope Beach don't resort to calling in the ringers again.

We know we struggle to pull a crowd, but we don't normally play the Downs or the Vale, so we will see next Sunday what crowd turns up to see a true local derby.mighty mouse wrote:think both of these games are local yes and the grove vs vale use to be massive, but the grove isnt even a shadow of its former self and struggles to pull a crowd. and im pretty sure the downs arent to worried bout munno para even in the ressies. the games are big for the grove and para, but just another day at it for the big teams. but keep trying to pump up some average contests.

Average contests? Clearly you don't have any insight into these four clubs. It may be true that, like with any cup competition, the games are 'bigger' for the clubs coming up against clubs in a lower division but I guarantee there will be a lot of feeling out there with a lot of blokes who know each other lining up against each other and bragging rights on the line. On the latter point, the pressure is well and truly on the Div.1 teams to get the win.
Personally I can't wait. I will be hitting the Downs v Para game and then heading down the road for the Vale v Grove and I know a lot of people that will be doing the same. Pump the contests up? Not needed. The crowds will come.
Re: Cup Round Local Derby's
my point is that the downs would not consider munno para as a rival at all. they would treat it as if they were playing any other ressie side. and the vale wont be cocky but its fair to say them and the grove is a thing of the past. grove are a young side and half the team wouldnt even know the history (chikanowski shield)etc. vale will not take it lightly, but would be treating it like they were playing any lower div 2 side, they are the raining cup holders and going for 3 in a row after all.On The Pine wrote:mighty mouse wrote:think both of these games are local yes and the grove vs vale use to be massive, but the grove isnt even a shadow of its former self and struggles to pull a crowd. and im pretty sure the downs arent to worried bout munno para even in the ressies. the games are big for the grove and para, but just another day at it for the big teams. but keep trying to pump up some average contests.

Well I would leave that for the Downs boys to decide, but I have a feeling you might be a little off the mark.mighty mouse wrote:my point is that the downs would not consider munno para as a rival at all. they would treat it as if they were playing any other ressie side. and the vale wont be cocky but its fair to say them and the grove is a thing of the past. grove are a young side and half the team wouldnt even know the history (chikanowski shield)etc. vale will not take it lightly, but would be treating it like they were playing any lower div 2 side, they are the raining cup holders and going for 3 in a row after all.On The Pine wrote:mighty mouse wrote:think both of these games are local yes and the grove vs vale use to be massive, but the grove isnt even a shadow of its former self and struggles to pull a crowd. and im pretty sure the downs arent to worried bout munno para even in the ressies. the games are big for the grove and para, but just another day at it for the big teams. but keep trying to pump up some average contests.

There are a lot of connections between the two clubs in terms of family (eg. one of the MP coaches son actually plays for the Downs) and friends. Whilst we are in different divisions, many of the players have fronted up against each other or played together at various points (juniors, federation level, etc.). I'm sure this would be a similar story for any two clubs that share close proximity.
Considering that the Downs pull some of the biggest crowds in the first division, Para pull some of the biggest crowds in the third and that both A grade teams are out, I am guessing it's going to be a great day out.
All we really need is the BODO seal of approval and we have ourselves a genuine blockbuster....

Nico,
Ringers.. I play people available to me. Any one who has not played for the A Cup team is available. Are you trying to tell me that your coach wouldn't do the same?
We had two A players last year..and that's all!

Also dont underestimate the grove its a cup game anything can happen thats the joy of the cup roundmighty mouse wrote:think both of these games are local yes and the grove vs vale use to be massive, but the grove isnt even a shadow of its former self and struggles to pull a crowd. and im pretty sure the downs arent to worried bout munno para even in the ressies. the games are big for the grove and para, but just another day at it for the big teams. but keep trying to pump up some average contests.

if they call in the ringers, might make it an even game. I guess the wanderers RING will be burning if this happens.
good luck to both sides!

I reckon the downs might consider it a bit of a derby, its actually been stated in other posts by downs forumites! Also considering we have played them about 4 times already this year, im going to call it a derby!mighty mouse wrote:my point is that the downs would not consider munno para as a rival at all. they would treat it as if they were playing any other ressie side. and the vale wont be cocky but its fair to say them and the grove is a thing of the past. grove are a young side and half the team wouldnt even know the history (chikanowski shield)etc. vale will not take it lightly, but would be treating it like they were playing any lower div 2 side, they are the raining cup holders and going for 3 in a row after all.On The Pine wrote:mighty mouse wrote:think both of these games are local yes and the grove vs vale use to be massive, but the grove isnt even a shadow of its former self and struggles to pull a crowd. and im pretty sure the downs arent to worried bout munno para even in the ressies. the games are big for the grove and para, but just another day at it for the big teams. but keep trying to pump up some average contests.

The showdown might nullify the crowd by about 4, considering its a port game!On The Pine wrote:mighty mouse wrote:think both of these games are local yes and the grove vs vale use to be massive, but the grove isnt even a shadow of its former self and struggles to pull a crowd. and im pretty sure the downs arent to worried bout munno para even in the ressies. the games are big for the grove and para, but just another day at it for the big teams. but keep trying to pump up some average contests.

We haven't got many C team players available, they are all cup-tied playing for the A's...I will just have to play the trainer upfront again..
Knocked out Wanderers last year, and Fulham/St Peters the year before..so if we win it will be only 2 years in a row! But i reckon Wanderers will be the favourites this year..A good solid B team..with a few A team players drafted in!
Looking forward to the game..

The Vale will not be taking this game lightly by any stretch of the imagination last year we were put through our paces in a hard fought final with a division two team Tea Tree Gully City so we cant underestemate them especially after knocking Para west out of the cup, big game and it should be exciting.

100% Agree. However I can assure you none are available for the Wanderers this year.
