Definitely not 3 deflections, for instance the 3rd goal clealry was a shot into the top corner of the net :)

The corner was a lucky one, and there was a silly mistake in our backline which earned you a penalty - a goal we gave you :).

No disrespect to the RB eagles I thinky you guys had a great game, but to tell me the vipers hardly got a sniff, I think your sniffing something else :D

- also have to Question the offside goal....was it in? Laws of physics say if it the ball entirely crosses the line, how would it look to be back in play?? Interesting one
First goal was a shot that hit our defender and fell for your player who was a couple of meters out. Second goal hit about three different players and it was bundled over the line. You must be the scorer of the third goal and is willing to claim anything, but I was a meter away, clear deflection

Our corner was also lucky, but the penalty was justified. Foul was there, but so was a handball a minute earlier, so in effect you were lucky not to concede more.

In the first half our keeper rarely touched the ball and in the second he was called upon to make one great save, from the free kick, but not much else. Can't think of many other saves.

Referee said after the game he thought it was offside, but the ball had gone in. So no offside and he would have counted it. But that's football.

Yep 1-0 to Sturt in the A's. Not a bad game but Sturt were not really worried.

B's ended up 3-2 to Cove - not a bad game.

Pretty average game I thought, watching from the sidelines (linesman). Saints never really got going but seemed to continue scoring throughout the game?!!! Uni are quite dangerous going forward but terrible in defence. If a coach could put players in their proper positions I think uni could play much better. As for us i think we played very well going forward, didnt really control the game as we'd have like but a 4-0 win is handy for not playing too well.
uni r half the team now as opposed to when we played them earlier in the year. What has happened?

What happened with Wanderers? Though u would have killed Gleeson???
2 medial ligament tears
1 ankle ligament tear
1 acl tear
exams
2 on holidays
1 hamstring tear
another ankle injury

just lots of injuries really and players away for holidays, next week will see another 3-4 go on holidays to visit home (uni students).

Gone from a squad of 35 in the first divs down to maybe 25 if we're lucky.

We didn't concede any more goals once I got on :D
Good thing we're out of the cup then... Time to lick our wounds.

Billy, you putting time in for both teams still?

Like other teams, we have loads of players out and the conditions weren't the best for either side to play good football. One of the Gleeson lads also said to me the ref was terrible for both of us, where are the good refs these days (there are a couple)...

Must say todays A's game was a great display of football between REDBLUE EAGLES and VIPERS. Vipers very god bunch of guys. end score was a fair result considering the high level of Football played by both sides.

I think you guys had a great game, but to suggest you were all over us is inaccurate. The scoreline shows that you only scored 1 more than us on the day. We still put 3 away.

And your definition of a handball is what? Ball hits hand?? I didn't realise the Laws of the game had changed recently. I can get into some dodgy linesman decisions too (like the one where it was clearly our corner, but was flagged as a goalkick...even your linesman admitted he cheated -what a :clown: )

Once again you have a very interesting observation of the game.

A few of their state league team dropped down to the amateurs (if the rumours are true - still being paid as well), including their coach a former Division 1 top goalscorer. Comets 2008 is not even close to Comets 2007 in personel and organisation. When our div 3 side played them in round 1, I recognised a few of their players from the old glory days of the 3 championships in a row 2001-3.

He might have to keep up with the play in the reserves next game... two weeks out and we've had 5-1 and 4-0 wins! Might be hard for DB to find a spot for Monkey in the firsts!

I think you guys had a great game, but to suggest you were all over us is inaccurate. The scoreline shows that you only scored 1 more than us on the day. We still put 3 away.

Once again you have a very interesting observation of the game.
I too was on the sidelines in the first half, and never did I see our keeper under threat. Hence we were in control. Can you think of any chances you guys had? Second half did change and it was a more even contest, chances at both ends. Not that our keeper was forced into many saves.

First goal was a deflection in the sense that the initial shot would have gone to the keeper, hit our defender and was put away. No need to be so pedantic over a minor detail. You scored 3, that's true, but you also lost.

Hand hit ball, like a freekick we conceded in the second half of the b's game, which was the same situation.

Ah dodgy decisions...like your b's first goal which was clearly our throw-in yet was given the other way? Or like your a's linesman who flagged for offside when our player was about 3 meters onside? Like those? Look at both sides of the story before you question my observation of the game, which stems from you initial post saying we were lucky to score in the b's but failing to mention the method of your three goals. It was a good day out, two good games of football and your a's are still top, so good luck to you guys.

not sure what's going on down there but whatever it is and whoever is pulling the strings is doing it right! another thing i've noticed is that this seasons comets (2008) are wearing the same strips as thier premier league team, in the years past when they were only in the Amateur div/collegiate they only ever wore either yellow, red & white strips. Does anyone know where their coachs have come from? Its been a while since the comets have been sitting 1/2

The comets story goes like this, in 2006 they found themselves out of their depth in div 1, they didn't get promoted, I'm not sure but I think the league expanded div 1 and comets for whatever reason was given a spot. They got one draw all season. After that the coach left and so did most the players, some went on to form the EA patriots (I think) which became the vipers, I think a lot of the players involved blamed the people pulling the strings, who didn't do much to help the team out when it was obvious they needed it.

In 2007 the team had big problems getting players, change in uni fees meant unisa and the comets were no longer affiliated, which is a problem when the team normally replaces departing international students with new international students, they also lacked a backbone of players from the past season. The concern all season was getting 11 players on the pitch, reserve games rarely had 11 players and a number of the games were forfeited. 1 win that season.

2008, the people in charge pull their thumb out and give the team a hand, a new squad with 4 survivors from 2007 and the team is fighting for promotion. Had the powers that be recognised the problem midway through the 2006 season, than the team would be in a much better shape. They deserved credit for this season but they seemed to miss the obvious for far too long.

Comets wear an old state league strip this season and the coach was formerly of the state team, I think.

Allow me to fill ins some gaps for you.

You were in div 1 in 06 because your usual A's went to the state league. Your old collegiate side were then playing (and finishing mid table in amateur div 2). As you can only fold your lowest team, the div 2 team folded but effectively just became the div 1 side. Only 1 player from the odl division 1 side, stayed playing amateurs.

This season your coach is from last seasons state league winning team, and was also part of the last amateur comets team to win the league (2003). I beleive he was the leagues top goalscorer in 2002 as well. Other players have also come back from that team as well.

Your committee also finally pulled their fingers out and started giving a shit about the amateurs and the womens side. Previously, they had even voted to fold the amateur with it only surviving due to the presidents deciding vote.
