Last Game....
Just to let everyone know, not that anyone will care, but I am playing my very last game this weekend. A 20 year football career is having the curtain drawn down on it for the last time.
Why am I telling you this? well, I am not telling the lads that I am captain over until the team talk before the game, and it is killing me. I have to tell someone.
I expect tears, emotion, how does everyone else deal with their last game?

I never really made a decision, just went on to referee after my last season ended ( that might put you off the game )Wolfman08 wrote:Just to let everyone know, not that anyone will care, but I am playing my very last game this weekend. In hindsight, my last game was as goalkeeper for Noarlunga Lions in Division 1 Sunday against the Vale at Mofflin Road.
I started off playing C's and Reserves and finished up in the A's who were relegated that year.
However, that game we won.
So after 22 years of SAASL (+7 yeard EDJSA) I finished up on a winning team in Division 1.
Looking back, a final year at the Downs would have been great.
Enjoy retirement and just make the stories and anecdotes bigger each time you tell them !

I went into my last game not knowing it would be my last game. Who knows... two years down the line you may decide to go back into it.Wolfman08 wrote:Just to let everyone know, not that anyone will care, but I am playing my very last game this weekend. Re: Last Game....
As captain why would you retire mid season? You may have spoiled the boys lovely surprise on the weekend by posting it on this forum too.

Re: Last Game....
I have been vomiting all morning, I'm telling them at training tonight.
I am 30, in good health, and can play full games for reserves and seniors in the same day.
But being the senior coach means the priorities have shifted, I may never get this opportunity again and I have to put all my effort into it, rather then sharing with the B grade. That is why I have left mid-season. The A's are struggling and need me coaching them rather then being selfish and playing B's.
All I can say is GO THE WOLVES

Re: Last Game....
My last game as B grade captain did not go to plan, a determined SA Stars outfit squashed my dreams of finishing on a high.
But when I told the A team (whom I manage) that I quit playing to set the team up straight and give them a full time manager, they performed, and won the game 7-5 after giving SA Stars a 3 goal headstart.
THINGS WILL GET BETTER IN THE WOLVES DEN

i know everyones situation is unique but you are a long time retired!!! unless you have aspirations to coach at a higher level, my advice would be to play until your legs (or a nagging wife) tell you to stop.Wolfman08

A nagging wife is no reason to quit !MegaBonus wrote:i know everyones situation is unique but you are a long time retired!!! unless you have aspirations to coach at a higher level, my advice would be to play until your legs (or a nagging wife) tell you to stop.Wolfman08
