Amatuer Suspensions are a JOKE

Post by Mr X »

Not sure if anyone else has heard of it before but when a club appeals a suspension and pays the appeal fee has anyone ever heard a suspension not being reduced?

Heard a Vale player (albiet a good one) is appealing a recent send off

Already this year a Pontains and PHW player got sent off for the same incident with both being reduced

The other year a player got a number of games but it got reduced cause the oppoing player (other club) was a family member?

seems you pay the money you get off ?????

In relation to the Pontians send off, the player actually spoke to the ref afterwards just to see what he was putting in the report. (I think it helped that he knew the ref, and the ref only put the incident down as minor and to receive a minimum 1 match suspension)

I must admit, I never heard of anyone appealing and not having their sentance reduced.

The quickest way to stop elbows, bad tackles, incidents behind the play etc is to give players the 3-4 games they deserve and make sure they serve it. If a player knew that was the sort of penalty he would recieve, then he may think twice about doing it. Not only that, if we can take some of these incidents out of the game, you would find that issues with the crowd may be reduced as nothing fires up supporters more than seeing their player injuried due to a flying elbow, kick etc.

I'm not saying we should remove the appeals process as there are times when referees get it wrong and a player recieves a suspension that is to harsh.

I'm sure they do. How many independant witnesses would there be at a game (I'd say not that many) and do they get asked to give thier views?

Perhaps you could put your hand up? At least if something happened at a game you were at. Am sure you would have backing of neutrality by most forum members.

The funniest thing about the whole "Appeal" of a Red card, 2 years ago last game of the season Gardens VS USC Lion, there was a meley after Tapey got hit behind play. I was shown a Red Card and suspended for 5 weeks, the refs report named me as the player and my number said I ran 30 meters and punched someone with a clinched fist. We challenged as that did not happen. The Ref wasnt there, they dont turn up, the Amatuer league committee was there we told them it didnt happen just sort of looked at each other for 5 minutes then left, we wernt out of the carpark and we got a call and said it was reduced to 1 week. Its the process thats a joke

I presume that would have been midweek, and I am sure many referees have commitments outside of the weekend, so there is no guarantee they could attend an appeal, but I think it would come down your word against theirs unless someone has video evidence which is unlikely.

Last season I saw one keeper run half the length of the pitch to remonstrate with the referee and eventually got sent off. This player had to be dragged away from the ground. That player has not played for the club since.

if you are going to appeal like I have before against a shocking decision by the ref for sending me off (which like everybody else didn't deserve) and got 3 games you go down to league HQ and argue your case against a piece of paper from the ref. You pay your money they ask your version which is a complete fabrication of the truth you miss 1 game the league get their cash and the ref wasted his time writing a report and it doesn't even matter if your Bert Fuda, Dave Eggars or mickey mouse

This thread isnt about a Vale player, was just an observation that after many years in the amatuers, that I never heard of an appeal not getting a reduced suspension.

Apparently Chris Nichols served a game of his suspension during last weeks forfeit. hows that for luck! Ps I dont think you pay to appeal anymore so your argument Mr X is invalid.

He got two weeks though. He is appealing the second week so I have heard anyway.

Pretty sure you pay if you don't succeed in your appeal.

The money is only refunded if the appeal is 'fully' upheld. I.e., if you get a four week suspension, and the SAASL DC reduce it to one week, then the appeal has not been fully upheld and the SAASL takes the money.

I have never been to an DC hearing where a suspension has been totally lifted - the player always ends up with at least a week.

With your clean record you should appeal it. Surely you'll get off.

Mate most of my bookings last year were from picking up the scraps that you missed with your poofy little tackle. Or because you'd made some run forward and were too old to make it back and therefore had 2 men to mark!!!

And there was me thinking they were for two footers aimed at people's knees or for telling the ref how much of a good bloke you thought he was. My bad!:clown:

I hear they (amatuer league) have been reading this topic over the last week and have decided to show us its not that easy to get off lightly. I would be interested to see their reactions about this topic.

We may have just shot ourselves in the foot talking about this..... But then again they never seem to do anything else about whats written on here.

I know a worse joke.

A man walks into a bakery with a salmon under his arm.

"Do you sell fishcakes here?" he asks.

"No, sorry," replies the shopkeeper.

"That's a shame, it's his birthday today"
