Wenger not keen on Kompany
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that he has no plans to carry out a swoop for Hamburg defender Vincent Kompany this summer.
Wenger had been expected to strengthen his back-line as he looks to rework his side ahead of the 2008/09 term.
Centre-back Kompany, who signed for Hamburg from Anderlecht in 2006, has previously been linked with a move to Emirates Stadium, with Wenger publicly expressing his interest in the 22-year-old.
But it appears the Frenchman has had a rethink over which departments he needs to fortify during the transfer window.
"I have been interested in Vincent Kompany ever since he was 16, but I am not interested in him this year," Wenger told The Sun. "There is nobody I need for my team's defensive department.
"I still follow Kompany's progress all the time and I know him very, very well. But he will not be an Arsenal player next season - and you can print that.
"I know all the good Belgian players. Arsenal are following a number of them with great interest, although I won't name names."

Re: Wenger not keen on Kompany
Does he play in the midfield too? I thought i saw him playing there for Hamburg this year and he looked a very accomplished player.
Re: Wenger not keen on Kompany
from what i have seen of him, he is bloody calm on the ball. great dispenser of the ball too, is like a play maker from the back. i rekon he would av been alright at arsenal

Re: Wenger not keen on Kompany
who knows, can only hope he has a plan B cause we cant win a title with Gallas, Toure, Senderos and Song as our back two pairing. Need a quality back up, although Song could be a revelation this season, for Gallas and Toure.

Re: Wenger not keen on Kompany
whilst richards, dunne, kompany or even mertesackar would be a dream come true for me i reckon arsenal have a few guys ready to step up in defence, such as song( put some really solid performances in toward the end of the season) djourou (played well for birmingham unfotunatly came back and got straght away injured. not that its hard but i already rate him far more then senderos). and then theres nordtviet, gibbs who r def imo ready to start seeing first team action

Re: Wenger not keen on Kompany
If Kompany is going up for sale in Man City's firesale, I think Wenger should sign him, cause we definitely need defenders and he could cover alot problem areas as either as a back up for Song or playing along side Vermaelen
