Hup Holland Hup!
Hup Holland hup
Laat de leeuw niet in zijn hempie staan
Hup Holland hup
Trek het beestje geen pantoffels aan
Hup Holland hup
Laat je uit het veld niet slaan
Want de leeuw op voetbalschoenen
Durft de hele wereld aan.

What a fucking game!!!!

3-0 vs italy!
4-1 vs france!

There is something special about this team. I cant put my finger on it, but there is something different than the past years.

How good was robbens goal!!!! completely killed the game! we made the french look stupid!

van nistelrooy played the best game ive ever seen him play without scoring, he was magnificent

would love to see our B team play against romania - huntelaar starting then :D

omg so happy

They are a class above the rest must say. Marko will be lifting silver wear shortly. He did it as a player and its looking like he will as a manager just like Beckenbauer did with West Germany.

The Dutch have won the group. Romania will take second if they can beat the Dutch in their final group match. A draw or a loss of one or two goals will also suffice for them if the other match ends in a draw, but if one of them win the winner will take that place.

Code: Select all

            P W D L F A Pts
Netherlands 2 2 - - 7 1 6
Romania 2 - 2 - 1 1 2
France 2 - 1 1 1 4 1
italy 2 - 1 1 1 4 1
bit quick off the mark there dont ya think? final score 4-1
I got the table right

Fantastic Match!
The difference in Holland seems to be unity I think. So often in-fighting in the past, they self destructed during a tournament with arguably better players than they have now. But teams win tournaments (Maradona the exception).
MVB I think has instilled an Italian defensive and midfield mentality (based on his AC Milan days) whilst retaining Dutch flair and creativity. Kuyt is not a reliable goal scorer, but he works so damn hard that his support is invaluable. His header wasn't brilliant, it was intelligent and effective. Luca Toni had a similar chance where the player in front of him should've headed it - Toni was caught out because he didn't expect the ball to come to him. Kuyt on the other hand has been taught to always "go through the action" just in case the player in front does miss the ball. Result = Goal. If Malouda would've attacked the ball instead of turning his back on it, he may have blocked it.
The speed, accurate passing and movement of the Dutch players is their main threat, and it's working.
Robben's goal was fantastic-he proved the principle of shoot if there is no support, and "near post high, far post low" works.
(Something we saw Del Piero also do this morning although he didn't score).
Schneijder is one of Holland's free kick takers, so when he got the ball on the edge of the area he knows to have a go = Goal!
Everyone is contributing in this side at the moment. Van Der Sar is playing superbly
Only their over confidence may cost them.

A lot of people (me included) thought the Dutch defence were suspect. Hasn't been the case, and Van Brockhorst seems to have stepped into Philip Cocu's role where he leads by example.
Ruud Van Nistelrooij vs Luca Toni = no contest based on their performances this tournament.
The French lacked sufficient width and did not feed Henry enough. the first decet ball he got was 30 min in.
I'm still betting on France not qualifying for South Africa 2010.

Believe it or not I did (and still am) predicting Romania to get through. Severely underestimated, not scared of Holland, having beaten them during qualifying Now with Holland through, I think Huntelaar is right and MVB will probably play a second string team, as may Croatia and Portugal.
For the Game. For the World.

awesome result and an awesome team, holland and spain were my picks for the title (with greece for the heart, still possible!)...

but yeh its great to see total football getting results against the recent negative trend..

van persie came out and said this team play the same as arsenal, could be a curse if they actually wanna win it though! lol

but in all seriousness, great to see the dutch doing well, and hopefully arsenal will do the same next season with a fit van persie!

glad holland stuffed the french, but again lack of good finishing by france who imo were on top for the majority of the game, it will be interesting to see how holland cope with a team that can put there chances away, because both italy and france had more than enough oppurtunities to win the game, in saying that two fantastic goals by the dutch and bad goalkeeping by coupet for the others

brilliant result. excellent. good to see giovanni doing well too. this mornig alone almost made me 'like' robben and RVN. haha.
i think its a true point that individually better dutch squads have been around recently, but like huntelaar said, something is different.

and as much class as was shown at points of the game, k-man, nothing has more calss than your signatures mate. keep it up. :P

the Dutch arent playing total football

and they've just destroyed the 2 world cup finalists, so does this mean that the old "dutch style" is over, and they're playing a very smart game now to their advantage.
