why are you comparing greece and spains achievements? it serves no purpose!

however, if one was to compare the two nations based on variables, spain has greater population, much richer national league, greater infrastructure for youth development. End result = 1 european cup each. Judging by these factors, one would automatically assume, spain has underachieved, whereas greece has overachieved! Once again, this is irrelevant anyway! On record, spain and greece have met once in international tournaments and a draw was the result in euro 04. So head to head, they cant be split! :)

I'm not

Madrista has to go and bring up spain in every discussion, even where Spain is not mentioned

agree with your other points though.

being a powerhouse is one thing. Being a tournament victor is another! Greece would much prefer to remain an underdog side! It is no surprise that the hype spain receives every 4 years does no good to their performances!

if you want to remain an underdog then why are you talking up Greece's chances???

beats the purpose of being an underdog.

no I think Greece were deserving winners of Euro 2004. smart tactics takes the prize always.

I also think they have little hope this time. Its nothing personal, all of my hate in football goes towards France and Germany. Greece are no rivals. If I am wrong and Greece do better than Italy then fine, you guys can talk all you want and I will have no choice but to shut the fuck up.

as for being called divers, that doesnt piss me off. the uneducated comments about Italian football by many on this forum does

Apparently in Spain 1 is more than 1.
Read what I said again, before you make a fool of yourself......again. I said and I quote, "and more international achievements than Greece" not more European Championships.....more international achievements, 1 European Championship plus 1 Gold Medal = 2....you with me so far? Greece has 1 European Championship so therefore, by my count and please correct me if i'm very much mistaken (get someone else to check your maths just in case).

Spain - 2 International Achievements
Greece - 1 International Achievement

Comprende?
Nah I don't really follow because the Olympic Games for football is nothing more than a glorified youth competition. But I can see why Spain would cling to that gold medal, with your lack of success in other areas. May as well as u17 competitions to your list if you include the Olympic games.

I am also led to believe that Spain won the recent u/17 Euro Championships. I'm not taking sides, one of my best mates is Greek, so I hope they do well for him. That's my input. No-one probably cares 'cause it's worthless information..:D
Let's just hope that it's a great tourny, with many entertaining and thrilling matches and some cracking goals!
My Prediction: Spain. Going For: France / Polska

You think Greece were deserving winners of EURO 04, but thats AFTER they won it. I have absolutely NO doubt, that before the tournament started, you gave us as much chance of winning it as the person next to you, none, and im included in that, because whilst i believed they would fare a lot better than their pathetic display in USA 94, i certainly did not expect them to win it.

I dont really expect anyone to win it at this stage because i have since learnt you just cant pick a winner in these tournaments. You can hope, yes, but you cant pick a certain winner. I expect Greece to do reasonably well, like i expect a few other Nations to do reasonably well, but there are many things that must happen and that a team must make happen for them to be crowned CHAMPIONS, so i guess we will just have to wait and let the games begin :D

Spain was actually mentioned before I even looked at this topic, in fact the first post on this topic mentioned Spain, Username made that reference. Spain has to be brought up because I'm incredibly proud of them and seeing as the question is "Who Will take it OUT!" I thought I would put my 2 cents in and give my opinion

By the way....the name is Madridista not Madrista....I don't call you Il Dooshbag so it would be nice if you got it right.

So you think winning an u23 tournament should be up there alongside world cups in a nations achievement list?

Juventino - testa d'oro

Madridista (better?) - testa di cazzo

the comaprison of an Olympic Games medal to a World Cup medal is a joke, and clutching at straws

yes it will be nice if we do win the Gold this year but hardly a notable achievement.

Have no idea what that means, my step dad was Calabrese though (mega coc.kface) and used to call me testa dura so yeh haha

I actually didn't compare it to the World Cup medal....the whole conversation was about comparing Spain's achievements to Greece's achievements.....how the World Cup came into this I will never know.
So you think winning an u23 tournament should be up there alongside world cups in a nations achievement list?
It's a senior football tournament considering 3 of the players are over the age of 23, and at the age of 23 a lot of football players are already considered some of the best in the world anyway so your comment is somewhat invalid in that regard. Yes I believe that the gold medal should be up there with a nations list of achievements, World Cup, Euro Cup, Olympics I suppose would be the equivalent of an international treble. Again I didn't compare it to the World Cup....I just thought it was worthy of a mention especially considering that the best footballing nation on the planet (Brazil) hasn't been able to win one, showing that it's no easy fete.

ze Germans deserve to be favourites though, look a solid side and have pretty much home advantage

France are strong but their manager is too shiraz stupid to win a major title, Spain will fail again, Portugal have no out and out striker and noone doing the dirty work in midfield. Greece will go back to being Greece.

Romania and Croatia the 2 darkhorses who could surprise.

so yeh IMO Italia and Germania the 2 standouts right now

Speaking totally unbiasedly here...I dont think Italy will win it, Spain is a bit touch and go depending on whether they can put the talent together or if it's just going to be individuals doing their thing than they'll probably fail as well. Portugal are in a group with some quality but should be able to get through relatively easily. My unbias tip would be Portugal, Germany, France or Spain....at this stage though France look the goods of all the teams

"we are world champions", "we've won the world cup", "campioni del mondo"

if you say that i'm arrogant for mentioning Real Madrid's 9 UEFA Champions League titles and 1 FIFA Best Club of the XX Century Award then surely you guys continually saying you're world champions and this and that is arrogance as well....if it's not can someone show me the difference?
