Just another point on this game, the ref was terrible! in extra time, the jets last defender pulled down the Inter striker. Yellow card given, I believe in the laws of the game, when a last man fouls or infringes an attacker and he is through on goal with only the goalie to beat, this is a red card!

Nah sorry my bad it was Angle Vale home game. Just f*cked up.
Strange though that Angle Vale play pretty far from the actual suburb (they play at Eliz Grove's ground)......hmmm

-FRANK CLEMENTE BAGS 5 FOR FLORINA IN A SLOPPY MATCH-

Salisbury Florina returned to Underdown Park to face SA Stars (Sun Div 5) in the Amateur League Challenge Cup. Salisbury Florina rested quite a few A grade players in this match and fielded quite a different team than in previous weeks including some reserves and a C grade striker on the bench.

Salisbury Florina started the game off very slow and looked out of sorts when going forward and seemed to play around with it too much trying to get that first goal. Florina was soon to score when they got a free kick outside the box and Steve McGregor picked out Frank Clemente who slotted it away to make it 1 - 0. Florina for the rest of the half played some pretty frustrating football while SA Stars were starting to grow in confidence and looking like they may score before the end of the half.

(Halftime 1 - 0)

The second half started much the same as the first half with some pretty sloppy football being played by Florina and payed the price when SA Stars snatched an unexpected goal to make it 1 - 1.

It was the goal that was much needed as this woke Florina up and turned the second half into one of those Cup games that results in plenty of goals. Pretty much straight away Florina responded with a second goal from Frank Clemente making it 2 - 1. At this stage of the game Florina pushed for the third goal and dominated much of the half and SA Stars seemed to run out of legs for Florina only to waste many of opportunities blazing high and wide. If it wasn't for the SA Stars keeper the game would of been well over but he pulled out some fine saves to keep them in the game. The fans started to grow a bit restless as goal opportunities were wasted for finally the third was scored and Frank Clemente bagged his hattrick 3 - 1.

From here it seemed Florina would stroll away with the game only for the SA Stars to find a second wind and not give up. SA Stars were then rewarded with their effort and pegged the game back to 3 - 2. Florina's defence was far from tight for the remainder of the game allowing the SA Stars way too much room but were given a life line when Florina's forwards hit their straps and a lovely volley was scored by Stevie Lyons making the scoreline 4 - 2. The game game surely seemed over now with 10 mins to go but once again in cup style fashion SA Stars found something in themselves to score another goal to put themselves in with a chance by scoring their third goal 4 - 3.

Florina responded instantly with another goal from Frank Clemente when he went one on one with the keeper to score his fourth and kill the nerves for Florina supporters and make it 5 - 3. The last five minutes saw Florina run through strong while SA Stars had run out of steam and a goal was scored by John Robson 6 - 3. It was only a minute or so before the end of full time and best on ground Frank Clemente turned in a fifth goal to make it 7 - 3.

(Fulltime 7 - 3)

We thank SA Stars for a great game today and great bunch of blokes who played some good football and held their own against Florina for most parts of the game.

That far away. That would explain why I didn't find it. I didn't plan on going there to begin with, but thought it was close to where I was when the game I had planned to see didn't go ahead. Ironically the team I ended up seeing whilst looking at grounds in that area was Elizabeth Vale :D

Well some interesting results and a good read for a Sunday night in front of the telly!!!!

Firstly apologies to ???? for saying that Maco's are div 2, I realised once I posted and looked up your address on the league website (i'd probably have taken the compliment that I thought you were obviously better than what are?)....

Maco's 0 - 3 Wanderers.
So I popped out and watched the first half of this game. Wanderers looked quite good for the majority of the game with some good football and inventive plays with the Barbaro boys playing up the field. I think it was Sam B, maybe both, got absolutely belted by maco's players numerous times and I thought surely a defender would be sent off - Did any end up going?
Wanderers were a very solid side and it will take a very good side to stop them this year. Cant wait to play them later on in the year.....

Jets were unlucky IMO both sides were missing players but it was a good game in all.

Dalarkis was the difference, still one of the best defenders running round in the amatuer league. He marked Tyson very well and kept his impact minimal, then stepped up to score a peach of a free kick in the final minutes of extra time to win it for Inter.

Inters keeper was playing on one leg towards the end so could of been a different result if it went to penalties

We got a penaltie, cant remember who scored that. Dave that play's up front scored 2.
Ref called the two coaches on in the first half to callm things down between the 2 sides, one of there players got sent off. They played with 10 men for 75% of the match so it was dissapointing to go down 4-3.

Cove A's
Didn't see too much of the match as the BBQ needed tending.... but from what I saw/heard the match was played in good spirits and the better team on the day/over 90mins, got the result.

Cove B's
A well fought match. Congrats to the opposition who made a good competition of the day. Carrying an injury, I was on the bench until the last 20mins - subbed into mid-field to bolster a solid defence under siege by (what seemed like 10) attackers eager to score, clinch a draw & force the game to extra time.
End result unaltered - despite a big push in the back during an opposition corner - the guy who infringed finished the job (ball in net), however the ref was perfectly placed to see what happened.... I don't think there was even 1 person in the zip-code who disagreed with the decision. What else can I say apart from well done to the opposition for a great, competitive, football focused match... and for frequenting the BBQ afterwards. All the best for the rest of the season.

Oh yeah - a big well done to the opposition linesman, he did a great job....given al the BS about opposition linesman 'cheating'. I feel it important to let people know not all opposition linesman are cheating bastards - far from it. My hat goes off to this guy, you seemed to play a very fair / unbiased match... hopefully you thought the same of our linesman.

As for the sat / sun 'who is best' debate...... good luck to all teams... the best team on the day wins.

Been there at the cup finals a few times (win & lose), seen it, experienced the thrill, fun, drama etc - pretty similar to UK events of similar magnitude. Honest.... I personally don't give a stuff if the opposition are Sat/Sun, to win a game you need to score more goals than the opposition. We all play the 'beautiful' / 'world' game, so just get on with it & stop the petty bickering -s'pose it's a bit like world politics in that respect ( big wide smile ).

A huge welcome to all teams visiting the Cove… whenever, whatever the competition. There will be passion on/off the park from both sides, given and expected. Ninety percent of linesmen / club-refs we’ve encountered have been 100% true to the game; we expect nothing different from your experience of our lineman / club-refs.

Keep smiling, enjoy the run on the park, put in 100%, the best team will win, enjoy a beverage or two afterwards (plus something from the BBQ) and converse with the opposition…... after all you’ll see most of ‘em again in the return match before the season’s over.

Cheers

Vale's crowd at Bosna was just as big as the Downs' crowd at Lion the other week. Imagine what they'd get at a game closer to home. The Bosna crowd was big too.
