Re: Match balls
We didnt use the league balls against the Downs and no one said anything. If the ref doesnt force you to then you could get away with it.

I have spoken to several clubs about this issue and they have all found that if they can muster up the $60 for replica nike, adidas etc balls to play with its $60 well spent

Who cares!! Its a bloody ball after all.... both teams play with it so no one is disadvantaged!!
Any ways alot of grounds are rubbish, with no grass and pot holes every where (Pontians ground Ha Ha) so a good ball wouldnt make much of a difference.

Do you actually play soccer? Clearly you have no idea what difference a good ball makes. The feeling of hitting a sweet pass or spanking a shot with a good ball just makes my weekend (I clearly dont do it very often!!!)....Go you reds wrote:Who cares!! Re: Match balls
Quite often the match ball is over inflated. I noticed this a lot when I was refereeing.
When I was goalkeeping and the ball was rock hard, I had a needle valve on my person or in the goal (highly illegal of course), andwould try to let air out of the ball when I had to retrieve the ball from behind the goal after a wayward shot.
The ball needs to have a little give in it.
Always preferred good quality Mitre balls.

bottom line, they are absoloute shite! i asked our coach about not using them and he said about the fine.
it's like the thread of the ball is copper or something! and the coating is just well crap.
Having heard your comments, i'll try enforce the old match ball.

Your on your own on this one slapalot..... the general vote is that the IDM balls are rubbish and if there wasnt a chance that the league would fine the clubs i think we would see more goals and i for one would enjoy playing alot more!!Sirslapsalot wrote:...And you reckon Adelaide Wanderers are whingers!! Re: Match balls
have to agree with monkey boy and big g on this one lads.
fair enough, it's the same for both teams, but the issue here is not one of bias. it's about using better equipment, which anybody that has played any sport for a decent amount of time wants. just like a decent pair of boots, a decent set of darts, a decent fishing rod etc... it makes it more enjoyable. a good football makes a huge difference.
i don't think anybody is complaining about being disadvantaged, but about being made to use second rate equipment, when as mentioned before its not too pricey to get hold of a good football. both teams could still play the same game with a much better ball. big g is right, the bottom line is they are absolute shite.
maybe we should have these balls in reserve if the ref disapproves of the club supplied balls.

Well said couldn't agree more..... dont get me wrong i appreciate the league supplying balls and they are good for training however on match day it would deffinately improve the quality of the game with better footballs..town crier wrote:have to agree with monkey boy and big g on this one lads.

Re: Match balls
The point was raised at the SAASL AGM (by me) about the apparent, as at that time we had not used them, lack of quality of the new balls. I asked the question was it simply financial issues taken into account when choosing a ball supplier and as with anything to do with finances, or in the slightest controversial, no real answer was given.
Mitre balls from years ago were better, Errea balls from last year were better... lets just hope BP doesn't decide to throw some sponsorship $$$ the leagues way or we'll all be playing with service station balls next season.
We asked to help professionalise and lift the standard of the league with club officials/marshals/referees, are constantly asked to pay extra for everything else and the balance sheet of the league continues to grow, so to be told we must play with inferior quality equipment, especially something so fundamental to the game as the ball, is unacceptable.
Next the league will sign a deal with Dunlop and it will be a requirement that all players wear Volleys to play in.
I'll be retired so it doesn't bother me too much, but at least everyone will be equal.

Re: Match balls
ease up no. 7 this thread is about an important topic that You brought up.... the match balls are inferior and i think that instead of the league putting fines on the clubs for using a different match ball perhaps each club should prove that they can supply a match ball and if not use the idm balls. i can understand that the league has gone and got the sponsr of idm and for that i am very thankful however it is my opinion that if there is a better option use it. like i said those balls are great to train with and it is good that everyone at training has a ball to kick however on game day it would make alot more sense for the referee to inspect a "club provided ball" and if it is not up to standard the idm ball must be used. It seems to me in the leagues eyes that having a sponsor for balls for the competition means that no clubs who cant afford their own match balls wont be picked on for a lack of finances or organisation (kind of like a school uniform, meaning everyone is equal). However lets face it if that is the quality provided i feel that the amatuer league doesnt consider the equipment provided at all.

Slapper - below is posted from someone from your club isn't it ...he even acknowledged the fact that the balls are crap and raised it with the league :? . Seems to me that the only one whinging is you It's a pity as your team/club obviously is doing very well (top of league in the firsts) unfortunately this will not be acknowledged by other clubs as you and your club mates do not know of the word Humility and how to act even when you have won a gameSirslapsalot wrote:I'm telling you & your team mates to stop whinging about balls, pitches, our team whinging etcjets no.7 wrote:hey slapper(or should i say your m.u.m) never complained about your pitch at all just about the match balls but you always have to make it about the wanderers well i couln't give a cabernet about the wanderers your not worth talking about anymore!

Re: Match balls
IDM would have been better off printing a sponsorship board for each club, saying "IDM Supports the South Australian Amateur League" rather than supply crappy balls where branding is minuscule and compromised due to quality resulting in threads like this.
Google 'IDM sporting equiptment' and the federation topic in 'Local and SA' is 5th in the list......
AND
Google "IDM Balls"
If you select pages from Australia, you get the first two being footballnews forum threads about how rubbish the balls are, THEN the third one is their actual website! Bet they didn't see that backfiring.

Re: Match balls
Haha that is classic about the search!!!
Just some other info about IDM.... Their main market is actually schools. Being a PE teacher we deal with IDM quite a bit and they really do experiment with equipment that they sell. We have had numerous products from them that we have needed to return.
Surely teams pay enough in their fees to warrant the supply of 2 x $20 balls? We picked up some Nike balls, through the school, for $20 and they are pretty good.....
Comes back to the good old... The league are just holding on to their cool mil in the bank!!! Forgive me if I am incorrect but surely the intrest gained on their money in the bank supply each team with 2 balls?!!!

Re: Match balls
As for the quality of the ball, 2006 we bought 2 world cup balls, they were damn expensive but so good to hit, we gave one to the opposing team at every home game to see if they were ok with using them, they all agreed. So much better to hit and not so heavy and hard in the rain. They were over 100 bucks each though.
