In which chapter of the doomsday book and Nostradamus does it say "No national league".

I think more will be heard of this after/during the underage Australian Championships in July.

South Australia is only one entity of any forthcoming National League.

I am sure its implementation is more about sponsors and financial backing because it will cost a lot of money.

If players wanting to take part in a National League Competition have to find money to do so, and take time off work, one will not see some of the best players taking part. :(
Also it needs to be planned for a medium to long term not here for one season and gone again. :!:

Why is SA ALWAYS the last to know everything. Questions need to be asked.

Has there been any official announcement from the FFA ?

Maybe some issues such as sponsorship have to be met by individual teams/states before they can take part.

I am sure that when things are in order an official announcement will be forthcoming. Patience good people. :)

Judging from today's announcement in the paper it looks like there is Federal support to ensure it hapens. FANTASTIC.

Only drawback (yes there is one and be warned) that IF it is left in the hands of the mob that looked after it before then there will be little support outside the Valetta road crew and it will flounder and will draw cynicism and low-level support. As with the A-League, there needs to be a total break and the women's national league needs to get the support and confidence of each and every person outside sasi.

It must not be left in the hands of those who have seen its demise. Its far too precious. For me...Its something Wendy and sawsa and FFSA should oversee it and appoint the BEST person(s) to the job. selection must be fair and equitable and must demonstrate that its a process that gives everyone a fighting chance. In the past it was skewed 99.99% from sasi and 1% outsider.

My suggestion is that sawsa start advertising far and wide for coaches, managers and support staff and enlist the services of people from outsude sa to fill the jobs.

I'm sure there will be detractors however, think about it and in particular how important it is to us.

Thats great news, wonder who will hold the franchises seeing the government is purportedly putting in so much money.
How can you blame South Australians for the demise of the National League if the other states did not want it as well, whether through financial constraints or the heavy costs gone into Matildas etc. Sure there are many things, but you SAD GAL have a set against Kevin and comments you make on this forum make that obvious. :( Wonder why Kevin has been an assistant coach at the Matildas Olympics and the Young Matildas World Cup.
In the newspaper article his comments were spot on. Players here have not had the chance to compete in a National League to come under more notice. IMO he has probably been as frustrated over the past few years along with the players. So we will all have to wait and see wont we.

Nothing personal to anyone currently involved as his record speaks for itself. But if you trot out a national; program with the same heads it will not get support. It needs to be akin to the A-league ie none of the baggage of the former regime.

Look at the topic below this one re: Matildas and you will see we are not tracking well.

National women's soccer league to be televised

The Advertiser- May 13th, 2008

SOCCER, football and cricket received funding to make sport more accessible and to support the nation's elite athletes.
A total of $16 million over two years will help the Football Federation of Australia televise a national women's league and promote community participation.

Almost $21 million will go to 91 other community projects over two years, and the Government will also invest $20.1 million over four years to fight illicit drug use by athletes.

The Government has also committed to $5 million to help the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide Football Clubs develop community facilities.

"Sport is integral to Australia's way of life, our view of ourselves and how we are viewed by the rest of the world," Sport Minister Kate Ellis said.

"The 2008 Budget, through sport, helps build the social cohesion that binds families, communities, regions and the nation."

If the government has dedicated funding to televising a National Women’s League this confirms that there WILL be a Women’s league after all. Finally we have some positive indication of whats happening with this matter.

$16 million!!! OMG sounds good to me!! :)

After all the hoo haa in the paper the other week with Valetta road sprouting the virtus of a women's national league....its all gone quiet..

Still think it will happen?

My prediction is that it will. No with the Matildas finsihing their Asian Cup campaign and with no Olympics duties, there is no reason for it to not happen.

Maybe lack of funds might stand in its way! Hope not.

The powers to be should have started planning already and advertising for a suitable coach and support crew. I suggest spreading the recruitment net interstate too.

Doubt much will be said until after the Youth Championships in Coffs Harbor. Reckon meetings would take place there..

I am sure that much will have to be discussed. ie Ground Rules, where Institute players stand in relation to a true National League, considering everyone thinks the Government is paying for it. You mention recruitment re coaches etc. What about players ie. How many overseas players in each team. Some interstate players who may not make their home based squads may move to a different state to play for another franchise. People on this forum seem to want a non Institute of sports based National League.
They may get that and then find only maybe 50% of the players in the Adelaide squad actually live in South Australia. I am playing the Devil's Advocate somewhat but does depend on the ground rules.

I think the same needs to happen with the women's game as occured with the men's comp. Start again. If what you say is close to the mark, then the game is knackered.

I think the focus is well and truly on the national team and the domestic comp has been left to fend for itself.

Hope we're wrong!

no1 else can take the job coz kevin is the only guy in adelaide who is willing to give up his life to be the coach of womens soccer in south australia...
im sure if someone put their hand up he would be quite happy to stand down as he has been doing it for many years.

but if there is no1 capable to tackle the job then why change.....

maybe the girls who dont like kev should venture to other states and try their luck...

speaking to girls from other states im pretty certain NSL is going ahead, as they are already planning their tryouts etc.
