Caution - Look out for syringes and other dangerous items.
Lets list the clubs, where the ground may be unsafe in anyway. I reckon there would be a few. They league should be doing something about this. They have been notified so far about Burrundi Eagles (Sat Div 3). At their ground at Angle Park, we found at least 5 or 6 syringes around the dugouts and no less than 5 metres from the sidelines. There was also a sharp rusty blade in the centre of the ground.
Had we not inspected the ground prior to the match, What might have happened. It is totally unacceptable that the home ground team were not inspecting the pitch themselves. Instead they were more interested in practising their goal celebrations.
So once again caution when visiting

Ingle Farms ground is one of the cleanest in the league.

The clubs around Salisbury and Elizabeth have a bad reputation for this kind of stuff

Re: Caution - Look out for syringes and other dangerous items.
keep it relevant lads, this is an important topic.
Angle Park has been a problem for many years. It is the responsibility of the council and SAASL to do something about it, yet I can remember 5 years ago the same situation. I think - unfortunately - until something serious happens, nothing will be done about it. We changed on the touchline in front of kids and women purely because we couldn't elsewhere, but the major concern was anything hidden under the playing surface.
It is a shame that Burundi don't do anything about it, but it is not their fault, they seem to be mostly migrants who only use the ground for soccer.
If there are any other grounds with these potential problems, then it is a good thing for all to know.

any community grounds could "potenetially" have this problem...... im yet to experience seeing a syringe on the pitch however growing up in the NE suburbs you learn that if there is something on the pitch u see while playng get rid of it...... we cant do an emu parade before the game!!

He has got a point but lets face it any one outside of the NE suburbs will tell you that the salisbury/elizabeth area have the worst reputation for anything and everything!!

I worked around the corner from there many moons ago (10 years) and after work on the odd occasion we used to have some footy kicks on that oval..........WHAT A FARKEN DISGRACE....USED FARKEN NEEDLES EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!O TSIGGANOS wrote:Lets list the clubs, where the ground may be unsafe in anyway. Re: Caution - Look out for syringes and other dangerous items.
Having played there on the weekend it was pretty ordinary to see the used syringes and I think before we start making silly northern area stereotypical comments we should look at how often this is really seen. Having played on most of the pitches in the North this is a very rare occurrence for me.
Most importantly though there is a duty of care owned by the SAASL, the home club and the owner (council or other entity) of the park to ensure that the environment is safe for its intended purpose. If it is not then those 3 groups must correct the problem before proceeding or not proceed whatsoever. There are large legal implications here too. I'm not saying that Burrandi should pick up the needles, in fact I'd oppose that as unreasonable, but someone should be cleaning the area and if it cannot be managed then games just should not be played at that location.
At a minimum someone should be examining that pitch each week it is played on and not left to some players from our club who stepped up and did the job. We did an emu parade as we deemed it necessary and I'm sure our coach would have abandoned the games if the pitch was not safe as he also owns a duty of care to his players.
This is a very serious issue and just because no one got hurt this time doesn't mean no one will in the near future.

I thought the councils are responsible for keeping community fields safe???? im sure someone will correct me if im wrong.... still at least there wasnt millions of upturned nails hammered over the ground when kids are running around! if its that much of a concern then a meeting between council, club and possibly SAASL should take place for a resolution or have the ground declared unsafe for organised sporting activities.

Re: Caution - Look out for syringes and other dangerous items.
I can't see Burrandi doing that, so the only option is for visiting clubs to pass on their concerns to the SAASL, when warranted, and then follow-up with the SAASL to ensure something is done to protect our players and the spectators. The needles were all on one side of the pitch. Just imagine if no-one saw them pre-game and then some kids went around and started playing there. the outcome could have been awful.. Fortunately for us our coach told us to stay away, silly bastard was early and saw them, so no one from our club went over including the kids.
Re: Caution - Look out for syringes and other dangerous items.
That was my point at the start of this. My kids come along to watch and play on the side regulary. The thought of them picking up a needle makes me sick. If i saw one on the pitch I would be demanding the ref abandon the game until we are sure it is safe. I would certainly not be clearing it up myself.J5 wrote:Just imagine if no-one saw them pre-game and then some kids went around and started playing there. the outcome could have been awful.. I love playing football, and wuold play in almost all conditions but I don't particulary fancy the idea of me or my kids getting aids.

My belief is that if it is a Council Owned property then it should be reported to the responsible council.!Handy_man wrote:I thought the councils are responsible for keeping community fields safe???? im sure someone will correct me if im wrong.... still at least there wasnt millions of upturned nails hammered over the ground when kids are running around! if its that much of a concern then a meeting between council, club and possibly SAASL should take place for a resolution or have the ground declared unsafe for organised sporting activities.

I agree that it should be a council responsibility. However, a reference was made earlier to idiots on a satrday night. I dont think much can be done by the council on a sunday morning. I'm sure the council probably take care of syringes and the mentioned ground every day during the week. My overall opinion, declare this particular ground unsafe for play as we are now 20 posts in with only one ground mentioned.
Re: Caution - Look out for syringes and other dangerous items.
I saw it in the newspaper a few months ago and I'm pretty sure it was posted on the forum also but i know it's not the clubs fault, Salisbury and Elizabeth boast some fantastic soccer clubs that have been around for years and have some great support just stating that there are some idiots around that area that would do something so stupid, don't have anything against the clubsROBBO wrote:Its not the club.. more the idiots that frequent there on a Sat nite.Uncle Bob wrote:The clubs around Salisbury and Elizabeth have a bad reputation for this kind of stuff

Re: Caution - Look out for syringes and other dangerous items.
last year some idiots hammered in small spikes into a junior pitch at the downs (about 40 odd i think) they were discovered when the coaches were putting the nets up, and only because the coach tripped over one.
someone obviously had nothing better to do.

'HIV in trace amounts of blood survives at room temperature outside the body for hours if dry, and for weeks if wet'
therefor given the current temperatures and the unlikely event that any 'wet' residue is left in these needles there is probably little chance that anyone would be infected. I have a young child who attends games and i wouldnt like to see it either.

To be honest with you, I don't care if it's 'little chance', I don't want to take that risk with my kids, as I'm pretty sure no parent does.Handy_man wrote:'HIV in trace amounts of blood survives at room temperature outside the body for hours if dry, and for weeks if wet'

Don't worry about it sparts, I heard that the Vipers President took photos to send through to the SAASL.
