Because defenders are also important to the team perhaps and they too can have good seasons and tournaments...? Just a wild guess.

Oh and there is no way Henry, Ronaldinho and Ibra can be on such a list.

well u look at the world player awards it was
zidane( had a great year and tournament)
and ronaldinho ( who had a good year not his greatest, but a much better player)
and cannavaro ( hu had one good tournament)

Zidane had a crap tournament, beside two or three games. He was sent off for a dispicable act and even missed a game earlier in the tournament. Yeh, great stuff! As for his year at Madrid, it was far from his best in a white shirt.

Ronaldinho could have been a candidate, but from June onwards he was absent.

Cannavaro was great for Juve in 05/06 and immense for Italy in Germany. While his Madrid form after that was not top notch, he had done enough to win it already.

And who can you compare a player like Ronaldinho and Cannavaro? You cannot call one better, because put Ronnie in defence and he will be less effective, put Canna up front and he won't be dribbling too many players. Simple really.

Ronaldihno has been no existent for the last few months and Henry is only appearing off the bench. Torres, Gerreard, Terry, Fabregas are all ones that can replace those two. Can't say much on players from Italy and Spain as I don't watch it enough. Maybe Toni who has been good for Bayern.
