GROUND A BLOODY DISGRACE!!!!!
Adelaide Villa 1v Dream Plus 0
Very scrappy affair. Should have been 150-0 instead of 1-0, but a wins a win!
My topic of discussion was the condition of the pitch.
No grass, just mud.
Many ditches in the ground could have left many of our senior players out with injury next week.
No corner flags.
The only lines on the field were the centre spot and the penalty spots.
The one line that was drawn looked like it was done by my 2 year old daughter.
The goals were all out of angle- cross bar bent like a banana (no exageration)
The referee was happy to call the game off yet we played.
Amatuer League!!!! There must be some basic standards on what host teams should present to the visitor. Whether you play Div 1, Div 4 or Div 9 does not matter. Sorry, if teams can not abide by basic conditions, they should not be allowed to field teams in the league!

If it's the same as last year, then it's very bad. Makes ours look like a bowling green.Bodø Glimt wrote:Surely Villa's ground can't be that bad

The council spent between 10-20K on Villa's ground this year and it is a hell of a lot better than last year. It is certainly no worse than your pitch hawksey!!!!!.Hawkesy wrote:In that case, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.Govilla wrote:Sorry guys! Yes the pitch was very bad as a lot are, but there is no excuse for non visual linemarkings which looked like they had been done with the naked eye, no pegs holding the nets down and a cross bar that dropped about 9 inches in the centre. How does the federation set it's criteria for entry into the SAASL? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ or are some of these teams pocketing the money given to them as grants to help them establish them selves with a soccer team within there community?

With councils allowing loss of open space to development, facility shortages are and will become more prevalent.
That ground was once reasonable and my guess the current drought might be responsible for the loss of grass.
If the club is paying the council for use of the land as a football ground then they should demand (with SAASL) backing
that something be done about the goal posts.
I'm sure if the word got out some football loving entrepeneur could step up to the plate and offer (or buy) them some corner flags, nets, pegs and a simple linemarker (i'm sure some clubs out in the football community would have an older model line marker sitting in their store rooms).
If the referee was happy to call the game off due to the conditions then he should send a report to the SAASL to check out the facilities.
As a football community we should try and help solve these problems !

Well I hope the improvements have worked then because that pitch was the worst in the league by far last year.Jack Mehorf wrote:The council spent between 10-20K on Villa's ground this year and it is a hell of a lot better than last year. It is certainly no worse than your pitch hawksey!!!!!.

Hawkesy, I am interested in what club you are affiliated with. Please dont tell me though that you are from Hahndorf as when I played there years ago with the Adelaide Cougars, Hahndorfs ground was a mud pile a probably still is.

Re: GROUND A BLOODY DISGRACE!!!!!
Hawksey, our pitch is vastly improved from last year, but fingers crossed it stays that way, time will tell. We have 5 teams playing on it now, 3 up from last year!!!! I'm out at your ground every week with my daughter and i'd say it's slightly better at this stage!!! We have the resources and plans in the pipeline for the futureHawkesy wrote:I play at iggies. The whole situation on Saturday was a farce though buddy, when your looking to attract a couple of quality ex prem players and also some coming back from very serious injuries, the last thing you want is a scenario like that. No disrespect to any team or anyone but that could be the reason why a lot of teams don't take the cup so seriously.

Heh you have any information on the old Adelaide Metropolitan league, which eventually became the Collegiate League. Apparently a former Downs junior played there!!!
Re: GROUND A BLOODY DISGRACE!!!!!
Last year they wanted our old boots, now they want our line markers etc.. They don't pay registrations to SAASL to be in the league in the first place. How much more charity do they want?swannsong wrote:Dream Plus are probably a formative team in their first year.

But in terms of open spaces, spot on. About 20 years ago, England's gov't started selling off any land to developments they could. In turn schoold lost playing fields etc. I have noticed a couple of schools doing that over here. my daughters school has minimal space but at least they have an arrangement with a local aussie rules/cricket side to use their grass for PE etc.. Now PE hardly exists in English schools meaning sport goes to the back burner and you end up with a nation that would rather sit and play play station that get out and kcik the ball for real.

Re: GROUND A BLOODY DISGRACE!!!!!
Sorry but that does not appear to make sense. If the ground is not fit for whatever reason then the Ref calls it off. It should have nothing to do with teams wanting to paly or not. Clearly then, the Ref must have thought it was ok to play.Govilla wrote:The referee was happy to call the game off yet we played.

No Mate, was there. Can tell you that the pitch was a shocker and that the only reason why we played was because every body was kitted up, we travelled half hour to get there!Rob Lozza wrote:Sorry but that does not appear to make sense. Just for the record, Hahndorf ground is not a mud pile anymore. Lots of money have been spent and lot's of hard work from our volunteer groundkeeper. The playing surface is good.
As you say, you haven't been there for few years, so make sure you have your facts right before making cheap comments like that.

About time. Looked like a fought a battle against a hundred pigs last time I played there.
Re: GROUND A BLOODY DISGRACE!!!!!
Try playing div 5, we are a new club (Wolves), have barely had a home game, play one and then have a bye or two, and all the playing fields are cow paddoks.
Well, except ours, which has not been used besides Juniors and Colts, and Gawlers pitch which is the State Leagues ground.

Re: GROUND A BLOODY DISGRACE!!!!!
As you know I went to one of your games earlier this season. You did say to me that your pitch wasn't the best but I know that when you're renting a ground from someone your limited to what you could do. I've been to Cowandilla twice this season and on both occasions the grass has needed mowing. Mind you, last week's cup tie against Wanderers wasn't as long as it was against Iggies some weeks earlier, but it still was a bit lon in patches. I know clubs can't always do much about things like that, but at you game I saw twelve goals, three of which actually came out the nets at the back so I'd say the nets weren't adequately pinned down. I'm surprised tha the referee didn't mention it.Jack Mehorf wrote:The council spent between 10-20K on Villa's ground this year and it is a hell of a lot better than last year. For the record, most of the pitches I've seen aren't that good.
Re: GROUND A BLOODY DISGRACE!!!!!
Thanks to fixed drains and lots of extra tonnes of top dressing the Jet's pitch is in good shape. However until it really rains consistently we won't really know cause the pitch can flood. We plan to top dress again next year.
Big THANKS to Peter, Rob and the gang at Pooraka Sand And Metal for their great support!!!
Almost forgot to thank the TTG council for their support.

Re: GROUND A BLOODY DISGRACE!!!!!
I was impressed by jets this season with their pitch, obviously someone has spent a lot of time and effort on it. Congratulations for that.
It's still the worst pitch in the league though but only because I'm a lazy bastard and the pitch is about 400m long and 200m wide.

Re: GROUND A BLOODY DISGRACE!!!!!
I sympathise with you Hawksey. I nearly pass out every time we play at home. Thank god for the interchange rule! The pitch has the exact same measurements as the old Wembley pitch. We had a surveyor lay it out for us. (Gary Dunn, cheers GAZ) Our over 35 side ,which I play in, hasn't won at home in 2 years!Hawkesy wrote:I was impressed by jets this season with their pitch, obviously someone has spent a lot of time and effort on it.
