No class divide in Bosnia-Herzegovina

NK Čelik coach Ivo Ištuk says Bosnia-Herzegovina has "never had such an exciting finale" with seven games left until the end of the Premijer Liga season.

Ištuk, who has previously won domestic titles with both NK Brotnjo and NK Široki Brijeg, has led his side to third place in the table – level on points with fourth-placed NK Zrinjski, two adrift of Široki Brijeg in second and a further point off leaders FK Modriča. Čelik's 3-2 home defeat by FK Željezničar on Sunday allowed Modriča to take over at the top by winning 3-1 at NK Posušje, but Ištuk is well aware that there could be plenty of twists yet to come in this rollercoaster season. "We have never had such an exciting finale," said the 54-year-old. "I hope my team can still win the title."

With so many clubs being evenly matched, half of the 16 teams in the top flight are still dreaming of the crown, including champions FK Sarajevo. They may be fifth, but a win against Željezničar in Saturday's 91st capital derby at the Koševo Stadium would be a massive lift. At the bottom of the table, it is all over for NK Žepče, who have tallied just seven points all season, but just three points separate FK Velež in 15th from FK Leotar in the relative safety of ninth place. Leotar did their survival hopes no harm with a 4-1 win against NK Jedinstvo on Saturday, with Jovica Vico scoring a hat-trick.

Cup semis
FK Slavija Sarajevo's Duško Jervić was the only recent managerial caualty, stepping down for personal reasons to be replaced by his assistant Zoran Erbez. Meanwhile, the second legs of the Bosnia-Herzegovnian Cup semi-finals will be played on 23 April, with Zrinjski 4-0 up against Posušje and Željezničar and FK Sloboda Tuzla tied at 1-1. The two-legged final takes place on 14 and 28 May.

It it all goes in a predictable circle one year muso team, next a cro and serb team to win the league. When it was played fair Zeljeznicar beat every one hands down they make more money by throwing games.
