Now this is NOT a Ref whinge thread. I am wondering what people thought about the strictness of the Refs (not individual decisions that may or may not gone your way) and also having linesmen in the Prems on Sunday.
As this is my 2nd year to do with the womans league, the first season I felt that the overall standard was demeaning to the game, BUT
I must congratulate the standard on Sunday as it was the standard that I was used to when coaching mens.
I hope this will be the norm now as this will improve the league out of sight.
Also having the neutral linesmen takes away any possible favouring of a team. Well done to SAWSA on this very positive move.
Just to make a further point it does not mean that I agreed with all the calls but once again the overall standard had lifted noticeably.
or the linesman called offside (when it wasnt) after all the players called it..when telling the reff it wasnt.. he said check with ur other official (reffering to the linesman).. i thought that the ref overruled decisions from the linesman, if he thought it was wrong?..

gubs... i actually spoke to the linesman after the game and she told me that in their rule book linesman are allowed to delay their decision by 5 mins.... I KNOW... a bit late and she even thinks its a shitty rule... but she does realise now she shouldnt have put the flag up... but when you do something cant really back down.... but i found it difficult as the refs and linesman were young and only 16ish... i felt that one of the linesman didnt know his offside rule as much as he should... such as passive offside and to watch when the ball is actually kicked...
just a question if anyone knows... do these refs have training once or twice a week or something??
also i do think its good thing to bring in the linesman so there is no favourism to one team...

the ref you had on sunday does referee saturday matches as well so hence why he was at that standard.

no we dont get the same refs as the men. im all for refs i tihnk they do a great job but when it comes to metro city fulham ect. you need the best refs in south australia as they are some fiery games and having a young boy reffing the game could end up like the asian championship a few years ago - chinese fly kicks!!!

We had Michael on Sunday, good lad ( use to coach him ) and a good ref, very fair, as is his dad.
So far we have had two very good refs......please keep it up

Jim is a CHAMP!
love that bloke.
unfortunate to put up with michael as a player let alone a ref
all i saw michael do all game was walk.
no running at all.
Unfortunately a good standard of refereeing is dampened by the very poor refs. Isn't a ref meant to pass impartial judgement??? It seems at times that the "strictness" of ref depends on what "cronies" they are refereeing for. However, I generally like the standard now as, years ago there were far too many soft tackle calls etc which slowed the game down. Hard job, glad it's not me!!
