Definitely match of the round on paper.
What are peoples thoughts on this game? Who will win? How bigger crowd? Will any of the new signings make an impact? Any big ins or outs?

I know Im biased but I have mates at both clubs. My prediction will be Gardens JUST. Wont predict a scoreline but it will by 1 goal, 1 Nil, 2-1, 3-2 etc.

It will be a great game, pity I cant watch.

 Downs should get through by a slim margain but i can't see many goals, both teams with good striking pairs but defence is strong for the Downs!! If Gardens can control enough of the midfield they will be able to topple the Downs but after looking at the Gardens defence it will take alot for the midfielders to attack and defend. Gardens will look to go in the air  so benny and his defence will need to be on his game but shut down the arial route to Mo and his partner and run Gardens Midfield all Day and they will crumble not a hard one to pick i dont think, as long as downs are prepared. :!: However it is only WEEK 1 Anything can happen!!

The biggest part Kenny is Matt Blackwood not playing, I know hes only one player and Bert has won medals and then theres Reevsey and Agars but Matt was the Best player for the Downs in both games last year. Benny is a great goalie but coming up against his old club Im sure he will be Nervous (and worrying how much the Crows pump the Power by  ) Benny had a cracker against the Gully so I may be wrong. The Downs and Gardens both have good teams and Ive played against both teams this year. I just think (Ok maybe it is Biased) that Gardens will get over the line JUST. I didnt want to be boring and say it would end in a Draw but you never know. All I do know is both sides will go there hardest and I hope that the best team wins. However all that really concerns me about Sunday is that TTG win against Southern Knights.

I'm going downs 2-0, if foats and shane don't play. I don't think they have anyone strong enough to get through downs defence. Don't think nerves will be an issue for Benny he's had the gardenss supporters behind the goals giving him heaps on a couple of occasions already this year and it hasn't bothered him. Looking forward to it

And I've never known Jay to be wrong yet. Danny Breton has retired- that is a shame if true.

Packed up 3 days supplies and headed off to the Downs v Gardens game today (100 kilometres return trip)!
Missed both goals (penalties) as I had stepped inside the Clubrooms at the time :(
A fairly hard fought battle with the Downs ( mostly with only 10 men-Red Andrews red carded in the first half ) seemed to outrun Parafield at the end.
Both teams missing opportunities or, were denied by good goalkeeping, to increase their goal tallies.

tight game between the two sides today, gardens starting pretty well and i was thinking the situation was looking good when the the downs went down to 10 men, but downs seem to lift with 10 and with burt dropping back he cleaned everything up, 1-1 was a pretty fair result in the end, both teams will be round the mark this year, all the best to weasel poor fella broke his leg and was playing really well will be a big loss for our club. downs ressies too good for us today lost 1 - 0

Downs v Gardens

Post by Outlaw 2.0 »

8) the result everyone was expecting but no one was hoping for :clown: both teams could wel have won the game, unfortunately couldnt convert the sniffs at goal. this result just proves everyones expectations of a very close div 1 season this year  which will make for some keen eyes in and around the place. unlucky to weasel, hope all is well and he gets better soon. both teams will look to push hard at training and get a win next week  ...... to be honest i am certainly glad it wont be me lining up against either of these two sides. :!:

Though It was a good game in all. Both teams very unlucky to walk away with the win. Some terrible descisions both ways by the ref, pretty much cost both goals.

Good to see a few of the Parafield boys in for a drink after.

On a sour note though very disappointing to see one of your female supporters wonder over the pitch at half time and abuse one of our female supporters, to the point she was in tears. There is no need for that and it is a very good example of why Parafield do not have a reputation as being a family club, something we are stiving to achieve at the Downs.
I think something should be said to the lady who wondered over with clear intentions to upset someone whom is only there to support the players on the pitch. Grow up would be something that comes to mind.

Overall, cant wait for the return leg!
I think my drinking club has a soccer problem.....

I saw the same thing last year in the Cup game but it was a Downs lady going off at a Gardens lady. I dont think it has anything to do with been seen as a family club. More of a case of "When Idiots Attack".

Looks like a massive crowd. Did the Messenger Newspaper get down there at all?

Surely there were reasons why the Parafield supporter abused the Downs supporter that were independent of either football club. It is not fair to claim that this is a reflection of the overall reputation or status of Parafield Gardens as a club as it is the isolated behaviour of an individual. It probably stems from history between the two people which has nothing to do with either club. If you are basing your judgements on the isolated behaviour of individuals, people from all clubs have overstepped the line, the Downs no less than anyone else. This does not mean such clubs are not "family clubs".

gardens supporters certain whinged enough, constantly calling for free kicks, penalties that wernt there from 70-80 meters away. thought it was a bit embarrassing for the club.
