Some Publicity (Better than none)

Post by SAD GAL »

In the week leading up to the charity match, I hope the women's game can get some publicity to highlight the event and that we have a thriving women's comp.

What we need is some active publicity in our mainstream media to lift our profile. To attract more people out there to take up the game. This will make our game (and comp) far more competitive that will result in an excellent level of player coming out of the SAWSA system that will increase the pool of players to fill the rotation in SASI. That way SASI doesn't have to resort to playing in the lowly 15c's and players like Victoria playing with SASI boys.

The article in today's paper about Vic playing with SASI boys was good however, like it or not. it highlights the shortcomings of our game. Some serious shortcomings with the SAWSA and women’s SASI program.

That article did NOT put our game or women's SASI in a positive light. I have heard comments from people outside the game that have questioned the women's league and its value in developing players foe the Oz team.

add to my prevous comment. when was the last time the mens super league clubs produced a player for an a-league club who has been a successful player with that club?

jason spagnuolo was prob the last and best example but that was one player in the past few seasons

more recently fabian barbiero but considering he has only just started out at a-league level it is unfair to judge the young man as to whether he has been successful yet or not

adriano pellegrino has only had stints here and there at a-league clubs sometimes securing a contract n other times just going to clubs for trials.

paul pezos had a brief stint with perth glory but has since come back to adelaide

People shouldnt be so quick to bag the womens game when the mens game isnt really producing many a-league potentials from grassroot level. there will always be those who whinge no matter how successful something is. people are very quick to point out the negatives of certain things and suggest ways to amend the shortcomings yet that is where everything stops.
Why dont ppl put their suggestions forward further than this forum and instead of hiding behind usernames and constantly bagging various organisations that nothing is ever done to change the current situation.

Dont whinge unless u are wanting to be actively involved in wanting to make a difference

SASI play in the 15c's coz the majority of their squad is under 17 and considering they were playing 16's in the previous few seasons with many more senior members yet only finishing mid to bottom of the ladder it is only logical that they drop back a div

Gubs

The risk is if you try and trot out stats on the past we are bound to repeat the mistakes.

Compare apples with apples.

Are you happy (maybe your career has taken another path) to have your career in the hands of others who are maybe not delivering what YOU or your career focussed team mates want?

I have made a very good analysis of what the situation is and how things could be better if a few things were sorted out.

Where is the whingeing?

If we don't comment on the state of affairs we are condemned to have the same old same old. I think you as a player would want your team mates who aspire to play for Oz to be given the best opportunity.

U whinge coz no matter how positive something is u seem to enjoy turning it into a negative.

Consider the options available to those who hold the future of young footballers in their hands and then reassess ur comments. If u dont know what little options they have given to them then dont carry on that they dont do anything and find out for urself the restrictions they have. Dont criticise the environment unless u have been a part of it

If ur that concerned then put ur complaints further than a football forum. Either that or dont play/watch/comment. simple

Well said gubs.

Your negative comments SAD GAL are getting annoying. You seem to complain A LOT and offer little, mostly no comment on how things could be better done. Give some sort of detail about what you'd like to see happen or better yet, get out there to the cold face and DO SOMETHING! Your attitude is starting to wear thin. I'm starting to get the impression you are a former player very disgruntled at how you were treated.

Well Well Well. Gubs has hit a fair bit on the head.
1. yes this new SASI squad is very young. One must remember players will not learn if they do not have their fair share of possession. At this time of this squads lives the U/15 scenario will help this.
2. There is probably 30-40 older players earmarked for the Young matildas/Matildas. So probably only an exceptional young talent will break in to there in the next 2 or 3 years.
3. Vick is older than SASI girls in squad. She is doing Physiotherapy at Uni according to the newspaper article. Pretty high stuff there. There is a life after football you know. The SASI boys scenario seems to be ideal for her to accomplish both goals.
4. This new young SASI squad of new talent will be up for consideration 2 0r 3 years down the track.
The other bit about SAWSA is different. my views/opinion on that are well known on this forum. :)
