The Adelaide United Football Club is proud to announce its partnership with and continued support of the South Australian Women’s Soccer Association (SAWSA) for 2008.
The Reds, who became a partner of SAWSA in 2007, has played a key role in securing the Women’s Premier Division with a major sponsor, Top Corner Sports, for the upcoming season.
Adelaide United CEO Sam Ciccarello says the club’s alignment with SAWSA provides both organisations with a great opportunity to combine forces in promoting the sport in South Australia.
“We are extremely pleased to be associated with SAWSA as the women’s game is strongly growing but needs to be more recognised,” Mr Ciccarello said.
“The Adelaide United Football Club is committed to supporting the growth of football at all levels in South Australia, from juniors to the local leagues and this includes women’s football, which has terrific participation numbers in Adelaide.”
SAWSA Executive Officer Wendy Carter said Adelaide United’s backing is a significant benefit for women’s football in South Australia and that it will make a considerable impact in keeping women’s football heading in the right direction.
“The securing of a major sponsor for the Women’s Premier Division is a major step forward and this will further contribute to increasing the profile of the sport at the local level,” Carter stated.
“Adelaide United has been a very important partner in assisting SAWSA to develop a complete sponsorship package, which benefits the sponsor as well as SAWSA and Adelaide United. SAWSA is very proud of the partnership that has been developed between Adelaide United and SAWSA with Adelaide United identifying that football is a game for everyone.”
The Top Corner Sports Women’s Premier Division, which is the pinnacle club competition for women in South Australia and will include Matilda, Young Matilda and National League players, is set to kick-off on Sunday 30 March 2008.
However, the next event on the SAWSA calendar is the Adelaide Airport Charity Cup on Sunday 16 March, which includes a curtain raiser featuring wives and girlfriends of Adelaide United players and a number of female media and sporting celebrities. All proceeds of the event to be held at the Marden Sports Complex from 10.00am will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

It had better NOT become a sasi offshoot ie a defacto National League. Otherwise I will not support its ineception.
WNSL and sasi are not to be given the "honour" of stuffing this one up!

Re: Adelaide United continue support of Womens Football
Look at the frickin state of affairs Keeps and make your call.
Its a shambles and is poor performing and should not be looked towards running/being involved in the league.
Let them deal with and run state comps, elite sasi, and women's national league (where oh where has my wnsl gone...oh where oh where can it be!!!!). It should be club run and open to everyone who goes to trial. Otherwise, it will suffer the same fate ie too expensive administraively and does not propser.
Positive side...women's soccer across australia needs this exposure. The demsie of the wnsl has meant that women's soccer has lost it national idetity and opportunity for players outside NSW, ACT and Qld to perform in front of Tom S. Keep it real and relevant to supporters. And away from the politics of the others.

Whatever happened with those women's exhibition matches they had before a couple of the A-league games. Hearing that AU is "supporting" us makes me wonder what directive has come down from A-league upper management and where this is this all heading? I wouldn't mind a little action.
Re: Adelaide United continue support of Womens Football
What happened? Same thing that usually happens when clowns get involved. It dies. Why? Coz it actually worked and was good for the game. We can't have that. Women's soccer in sa is not about developing players for the National team. Its all about a cosy little group of ladies playing little games amongst themselves. Its Social mate.
It was a great concept playing before Ad Utd games. Great exposure. So what happens? It stops happening.
We do not have the people here who are prepared to fight. They are just happy to go with the flow.! SA women’s soccer is fed on promises.
