Re: Preseason Matches and Results
i dont think the term "homegrown" is used anymore the way it used to be used
Re: Preseason Matches and Results
so how long does a player hav to be at a club b4 theyre considered homegrown???
Re: Preseason Matches and Results
im pretty sure the homegrown rule was thrown away. i used to be a homegrown player at my club and i never counted in the sasi numbers until they changed the ruling a few years ago and it meant that i was counted. im not too sure of what the rules are now. im just explaining them as i know them
Re: Preseason Matches and Results
Well next year ..the 2007 sasi squad who are still under contract for this year will be free agents next year and could move to one club together next year if they wanted.. that could make the league interesting

Re: Preseason Matches and Results
a regional based system would work best imo.
divide south australia up, and alocate certain sections to a set 10 teams, which might mean that some clubs might need to relocate.
where you grow up is the club you play for easy fixed.

Re: Preseason Matches and Results
You are correct 'to a point' gubs, but if they take on or already have another sasi player who is not homegrown, there comes the problem.
It can get very messy, and can be beyond a clubs control. I have seen the situation where a player joined a club in the 'off season' at which time they didnt have a scholarship, but between then and the start of the season they became a sasi player, meaning one of the clubs homegrown players ended up sitting out the season for the club. It didnt matter that the girl didnt have a sasi scholarship at the time she moved to her 'new' club - she had not been there for the required period of time to be classed as 'home grown'.
(PS we have been told by sawsa that the home grown rule still exists, and the time period is now 3 consecutive years with a club - it used to be 2years)

Re: Preseason Matches and Results
well they chop and change the rules all the time coz i was told that homegrown doesnt exist anymore and consequently i was counted as a sasi player when i was in sasi
there needs to be some element of smart thinking when considering signing players in the off season. no players are allowed to be signed by a club until the sasi scholarships have been announced so in a way clubs do know who will be getting scholarships n who wont be. fair enough have them train with the club and if they do not obtain a scholarship then by all means sign then. if they do obtain a scholarship then it is only fair that the pre-existing players are looked after by the club

Re: Preseason Matches and Results
Yes the rules have probably been a bit 'fluid'. I dont doubt that they probably will end up being changed again at some point too.
For example, would the following scenario (which is quite possible) be fair? It highlights a potential problem with things as they stand...
A player moves to a new club, and after 1 or 2 years at the club they are offered a sasi scholarship. This means that they become a 'non home grown sasi player' for their club because they have only been there for 1 or 2 years (not 3 years). This limits the club then to registering a maximum of 3 sasi scholarship holders regardless of how many 'homegrown' status sasi players they have available to them (these are the rules at the moment).
However the club has done well developing their juniors and has 4 homegrown players plus the new 'non home grown' scholarship holder, so they have a big problem. Either the player who has been there for less than 3 years or 2 of the other homegrown players cannot be registered - or the player who has been there for less than 3 years has to make the choice between club and sasi - none of these options really seem 'fair'.
So do clubs with existing sasi players and good juniors coming through have to turn away players (probably juniors) who wish to join them from other clubs just in case they get offered a sasi scholarship in the next couple of years? What club has the ability to accurately predict that?

Re: Preseason Matches and Results
i was never under the impression that u had to be at a club for a certain amount of years b4 u qualified for homegrown status. in the past if a player was already at the club and was then offered a scholarship then they were able to be added to the list of sasi players at the club even if it might exceed the max 3 players. it stops the club from going out and recruiting other sasi players and encourages the development of its juniors and other members on the senior list who may become scholarship holders. i havent been aware of any clubs having to turn away pre-existing players coz they have too many sasi players

Re: Preseason Matches and Results
Easy fixed. Full or part timers at SASI, you are counted as SASI, then you only play for SASI in the under 16s. Once you are not playing under the SASI banner then you become a normal player (like everyone else). It works in the guys so why do they have to make it so weird for the girls. :?

Allocation due to where you grow up is ridiculous!
What if you move out of home or have two addresses!!
what if you move mid season!??

not that ridiculous, its how the sanfl runs its juniors and you would have to say that, that is the most successful youth development program run in this state.KrAzY wrote:Allocation due to where you grow up is ridiculous!

certainly gets rid of any problems.
sasi has moved to the 15c's though. Anyone know why?

Arn't the boys only in the program for 2 years.. U sayin the girls should be the same there aswell or just as far as club goes?Easy fixed. Re: Preseason Matches and Results
Why not for two years. The system works at least ok in the mens so why not in the womens. really is about time that SAWSA pulled its head out and got rid of its antiquated ways. what has worked in the past (?) does not mean its going to be successful forever.

Re: Preseason Matches and Results
So then you would have to cut down the number of teams in the league..
it would be just like zone back in the day ... it was zonal to where u lived..
then that got changed ..why did it get changed if its such a great way to distribute players?

In the 15c's? What the H is going on. From16's to 15c's? What are they trying to prove over the on valetta road? 15b's is accepatable (barely) but the c's????
This is an abysmal decision! Not a good outcome.

Re: Preseason Matches and Results
wat u hav 2 realise SAD GAD is that the SASI team is now much younger and there wld b no way that they wld compete in the Under 16's boy league. however i do agree with u 15 b's wld hav been a beta choice.....in the c league they will get a beta physical competition but the teams will lack the skill that their a/b conterparts will have. they will b playing up against a kick and run sort of game. however maybe there was no openiing in the 15's b league.SAD GAL wrote:In the 15c's? Re: Preseason Matches and Results
so lets take away everybodies free will and right to chose where they want to play, shall we?!?!?! like krazy said...wwat if they move midseason...or even at all and they dont want to move clubs........or wat if they dont like the club and want to move but they dont move house?????BillShankly wrote:a regional based system would work best imo.

and wat if the club relocates coz theyre no longer allowed to play where they hav ben playin???
Re: Preseason Matches and Results
Clearly because there are alot more boys to pick from where as if the girls were only in the programme for 2 year eventually they would have no one to pick from or the quality would drop so much some people on this forum would NEVER stop complainin. Why not for two years. Good luck to the girls tonight.
