I have already had that argument with him.e-football wrote:You are not a Man Utd Fan or Liverppool fan hence you wanting one of the others to win the cup is differrent.
I find it amazing you have Palace and Arsenal in your sig too!
I like to see the English teams well but i was a huge Palermo supporter about this time last year. My teams rivals are scum and i repeat what i said "I would support saddam hussein XI over them".
I like to see the English teams doing well, if palace ever become a big team (big teams qualify for Europe) then they will NOT get my support as they are a rival. arsenal, liverpool, man u, spurs etc.. are not.
As for supporting your country and the national team. I remember watching a madrid v someone game last year and I cheared on madrid as they had more Englihsman in their side.
The idea of man u supporters backing Liverpool and vice versa is absolutely laughable and to be honest, anyone who thinks otherwise is showing a complete and utter lack of knowledge of the game.
Things I am owed because they're too tight to pay up:

There's a difference though. I generally like to see my neighbours happy, except that knut across the street. I laughed when he crashed his car.
For me, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are that knut across the street. Man U is that annoying old lady who I mean no harm to but would not be bothered if she croaked tomorrow. Everton are your neighbour you have a chat with and wish him good day when you see him, but if he had a loud party at 2am, you'd still call the cops.

his signature is a sign of the "Globalised" information age we live in today. 20 years ago, most people could never see so much football across 3 leagues. I think we are in a unique situation in Australia, that we have all outsourced (excluding imigrants/team handed down through parents etc.) to find a team we enjoy watching. In Europe, there would be no need to support more than one side as you live in the city they play, ala cows supporters in adelaide.
We are used to supporting our national team of our ethnic background at Euro's and WC's as Australia has been all over the place. Take an Englishman in Newcastle, he would support Newcastle and England, nothing else required.

In response to the original question I believe "ronnie" delivers an adequate answer.
Now to throw my humble opinion into the great argument of Serie A vs. EPL. I do believe that the Serie A is of a higher quality but the EPL is marketed much more efficiently and well presented to the viewing audience, to put it simply the games looks great on television. This is where the Serie A has to catch up, they must make the league more marketable.Ronnie wrote:I think when it comes down to it, Liverpool were the much better team on the night, and this had little to do with the sending off. Liverpool dominated the match early, and the early tactics of getting at the slow lumpy Materazzi worked perfectly, with him being sucked into two clumsy fouls to get himself sent off.
The way that Liverpool played is not always the most attractive, often playing the ball around and holding possession making a number of half chances for the first 75 minutes and then unleashing Stevie G to get at them and try to snatch a late win. This frustrates me to no end, and often means they only draw and sometimes lose in the league, but against the European teams it always seems to work.
Liverpool have a solid as back line that give European teams who don't attack them no chance of penetrating the wall. Even before the send off, Carragher and Hyypia (even though he is aging and is slow as) gave Inter nothing. I haven't seen much Serie A, but every time i see Ibrahimovic in a European cup game he disappoints. Carragher showed just how good he is this morning. I have seen a lot of you bag him out, and yeah he isn't the classiest player, but he would be in the first XI of any club team in the world.
Liverpool rely too much on Carragher, Gerrard and Torres, but they also seem to be able to get the most out of their own ability in big Euro cup games. Until they build their squad with at least another class striker and midfielder they wont press for domestic honours, but they will continue to impress in the European cup

I can assure you my reasoning is having gone to approx 800 games live...it has fuck all to do with TV. TV and live (leaguer) football didn't exist properly until mid 1980's!
No offence to anyone, as most of you were born in Aus and its's not your fault you haven't been to games (Due to age and location). However to say what is good and bad from watching bits on TV is laughable, it's not the same as going to matches I can assure you.
If and when anyone goes to a Liverpool v Man Utd game at Anfield you will see what I mean. You often read how the Kop spurs Liveerpool on, I haven't ever read how the fans at San Siro heve sucked a goal in for either Milan team!

I presume you've been to plenty of matches at the San Siro then??e-football wrote:I can assure you my reasoning is having gone to approx 800 games live...it has shiraz all to do with TV. TV and live (leaguer) football didn't exist properly until mid 1980's!

It wasnt long ago I was in the Curva amongst the Lazio ultras even on such an unimportant game, we had a decent impact.

Really? The majority of the time all I could hear were Inter's 1000 supporters singing louder and prouder than the Liverpool spectators barring two songs. It wasn't until the 85th minute when you jagged a goal that they finally drowned out the Inter supporters.e-football wrote:I can assure you my reasoning is having gone to approx 800 games live...it has shiraz all to do with TV. when was the last time Liverpool put a stop to a European fixture because they didn't like a referee decision.
Regardless who was louder point is they opposition fans shouldn't be heard for more than 10 seconds.
On the return if you want to know when Liverpool fans try to be heard, it's easy, just listen to them get whistled out.
Mind you if we cop a couple early the supporters will probably turn on their own
