Div 3 League

Post by old_trafford »

Can anyone confirm who is in div 3 this year.

Ive heard Gawler and Seaford Lions are joining us, but Pontians may not be.

So far Ive heard the following are in

Munno Para
ABE
Grove
Athelstone
Flinders Uni
Adelaide Uni
OUT
Gawler
Seaford
He cannot kick with his left foot, he cannot head a ball, he cannot tackle and he doesn't score many goals. Apart from that he's all right.

There seems to be a lot of new women's team this season. Is there a chance there will be a div 4 this year? I know SAWSA were thinking about it last season.

You can add Adelaide Villa to that list. And I heard that Modbury were trying to get a girls team going, not sure if that's juniors or a Div 3 side.

Apparently the girl who organised it all, got married recently and has been on her honeymoon. While she was away no-one organised the paperwork or anything. So not sure if they'll get it together in time.

Not surprised Pontian have gone up. When I saw them play last year they looked like they were punching below their weight.
I'm very happy to have moved to West Ham, because I can play for a better team than Sheffield Wednesday.

All new clubs have to start in the bottom division regardless of the quality of their players.

They're not officially out yet, because there are still clubs that haven't affiliated from last year, that also haven't advised that they're not continuing on, so I think they're chasing them up.

I also know that the list for Div 3 and 4 will actually be different than what's been posted. Because their are divisions that currently have only 7 teams in them and some that have 10+, so until they get all the clubs in they can't even it out. - officially.

I would not think there should be any confusion re South Adelaide Panthers being in Div 2. One should consider the fact that there is no Premier League team in the South. The Deep South is growing at an extremely fast rate. There will be a Southern Premier league team very soon one would think. Of course SAWSA would want to consider the calibre of players available to admit a team from the South to Premier status. Also one can be re- assured that South Adelaide or whoever will not be wanting in if they cannot be competitive. What will transpire who knows? :)

Exactly - it appears the rules about starting in the lowest div are not set in stone, and I agree I expect South Adl to be a very competitive team this year.

pvfc i think you are right, they're not set in stone.... for this year... because there are sooo many new clubs entering the competition, and SAWSA have lost a couple of clubs from higher divisions, which means the divisions are unbalanced.

I think SAWSA's desire to maintain a league where each of the divisions have 10 teams has out-weighed the rule about where a new club can enter a competition.

Also are South Adelaide Panthers a new club?? Or just new to the seniors competition??

Then I think they actually sit outside of the rule anyway, because they are not a new "club".

When Metro entered a third senior team, they weren't a new 'club', but they weren't allowed to move straight to div2 - they started in div3. They then won div3 and div2 in consecutive years.

Dont get me wrong, I have no problem with South starting in div2, just pointing out inconsistencies over the past couple of years.

Once again, I think its a numbers game pvfc.

I think you'll find that the year Metro entered its 3rd team there were already 12 teams in Div 2, so adding another team at that time would have made the season ridiculously long.

This year we have more divisions, but less team in each division. The interim table that SAWSA sent out this week shows only 7 teams in Div 1, 8 teams in Div 2 and 3 and 10 teams in Div 4. Granted there are still clubs yet to affiliate, but I'd assume they're looking to even things out at the bottom so that they can push teams upto Div 1 and 2. This may mean that some clubs start off in the seniors comp a lot higher than usual. And some new clubs will start off in Div 3.

Obviously I can't argue against the inconsistency, because it's there, there can be no doubt about that. But i think in this instance its for the good of the game.
