The SAASL are a joke.

we all know that there will be no Grove players, we all know that there will be a lot of players who should'nt be in the squad, but really who gives a toss, as it is pre season, and all of us only care about getting our respective clubs ready for 2008

there is no doubt that the team will be underdone, but at the same time have been chosen to represent their state. several players have resigned from their commitments but replacements have been called in. At the end of the day the squad will be competitive but will take a couple of games to adjust to fitness, intensity and game style.
It is a CHALLENGE for amateur soccer to have representation and the team will go in with no expectations so will make matters even more interesting. The team represents all amateur clubs and any select side always has controversial selections, but thats the coaches job.
Probably about forty players that could vie for the first eleven

M Clarke - Para Hills West - one of the hardest Centre Halves in the league - not geta look in (just ask most strikers who they hate marking them)
Gotta get his locks cut to be hard. Clarky should be in the selection squad for sure. What about Eggers from PHW he is over 30 how did he miss out?

Mr. Eggers lost to much weight over summer. looking very fit at training.

Heard only overwieght & unfit players need apply or get a call up for select team.

He has started training already??

Are you sure you are talking about David Eggers, from Para Hills West.

Clark and Kaftan should definately be in the League Squad next to Mr Andrews and take your pick for who else, maybe Chris Ennis. Depends on if you are playing a back four or three.

No disrespect to any of the other players you mentioned above who are all good players, but surely you could not justify picking any of them at the back ahead of a fit Chris Ennis. I can only assume you are just trying to be impartial due to club connections!

There were so many players that pulled out that it fell into my lap. One training session is plenty for me. and there is a nine sub interchange so ten minutes here and there will be fine.

Im looking forward to watching Thursday nights game. What I think about the whole situation is that you cant blame the players who get picked or have been picked because what would you say yourself if you were asked to represent your state.

What I think stands out is the coaching staff are not in touch with the amateur scene. How many clubs have they contacted coaches to see A. Are they training? B. Can they recommend players. The State Amateur coach should be a current coach in my opinion, someone who watches games and knows a large variety of players "Not just names"

Thursday will be interesting!!!

Good luck to all involved!

Anyone got a squad list???

Trying not to be to biased to me best mate but yeah, I'd pick him every week as Sweeper in the state team.

He has got himself quite fit to this year. Big improvement on last season. Very tough session for the boys last night and he looked very good.

Id pick him every time as the designated penalty taker, as long as no koalas are watching

5-1 was the final score

Campelltown scored their 1st goal about 10mins before half time, they scored another 2 in the opening 5 mins of the 2nd half. Vito malavinti then scored for the amatuers to make it 3-1. Campelltown scored another 2 in the last 10 mins. Campelltown must sharper and fitter as you would expect.

The side from last nite was:

B.gale (G.K)
A.Kokut (R.G.K)
S.Wilson
R.Hunt
V.Malavinti
T.Scalzi
R.Cirrecho
S.Butler
C.Nicholls
M.Brooks
Drago - USC lion coach
Someone from the Riverland dont know name.
Another player from USC lion dont know name.

There were another 4-5 players in the squad just cant remember who they
are.

Very competitive first half with Campbelltown in full control. Second half showed the difference between 1 training run and a squad that's been training together for 3 months. great build up and finish to AL's one and only goal though, best goal of the game. ALSO HERE RICK DEROSA'S BEEN CALLED UP FOR MONDAY NIGHTS GAME. Better lay off those scotches on the weekend buddy.......
