I mentioned him in the previous post.

He was booked for over celebrating his goal. He had already been booked for a nothing little foul.

Booked (and then shown a red card) for over celebrating in front of his own fans, meanwhile the killer (Lee Hughes) wasn't booked for 3 times running in front of the Millwall fans giving it the big 'un.

The booking is for inciting the crowd, so if a fan feels the need to come onto the pitch to get hughes while he's celebrating then surely hughes has incited the crowd and a booking is due. :?

My friend is a director at Millwall and I've been told that Millwall have officialy complained about the ref and he personally said "It's the worst ref I've seen in 36 years of watching Millwall".

I would be able to get it at home, but don't have my details here. Not sure if it's possible to download onto another source either. I'll try tonight but i'm pretty computer illiterate.

Hawkesy, he celebrates like that all the time, latics fans have named it the hippy dance.

We've all been on the end of shocking refs, part and parcel in league 1, makes a change it wasn't us for once.

If your fans hadn't spent all their time on trying to wind up Hughes, they wouldn't have got themselves whipped up in a frenzy.Your fans were pelting all latics players not just Hughes with all sorts of things in one corner of the ground. They dished it out and didn't like it when Hughes gave it them back by scoring.

You lost accept it.

I can accept the result but not the bad refereeing. Obviously, I wasn't there but I was told the result was at the murderer and no one else. Smiling and laughing when Milwalll fans were calling him a murderer. I hope that old man haunts him for life. He apparantly tried to dance along at one point and even his own team mates turner their back on him.

He's a nasty little shit who has shown no remorse for killing a human being.

As for taking it back, the murdered had the last laugh by scoring a hat-trick but clearly should have been booked.

Like I said, we all get crap refs. Number of times it's cost Oldham I've lost count.

Have you watched the clip, because in it shows his team mates going up to him after he's scored.

I wasn't there either but the way you Millwall fans are going on, it was supposed to be the second coming of the anti christ. Look at the clip half the things you've said are disproved.

It doesn't sit well with me that he is at my club, but the 3 amigos took a chance and it seems to be paying off for them. He has won over a lot of fans, by his efforts off and on the pitch.
He regrets what he did, has shown remorse on numerous occassions and has been doing lots of community work around Oldham, talking to the youth about prison amongst other things.

As for Hughes himself, he's had it every ground he's been to, not just your place. He isn't disrepecting the dead, he's disrespecting your fans, don't confuse the two.

Can't access it at work but will watch it tonight at home, then make a more informed comment. Below is the match report from a Millwall website I go on.
PANTOMIME season truly came to The Den on a chilly Saturday afternoon today as Oldham Athletic snatched victory away from Millwall with the aid of not one, but two villains.

While it was freshly-released former-prisoner Lee Hughes who contributed all three of the Latics’ strikes, Lions fans will no doubt hold Leicestershire referee Kevin Friend more than slightly to blame for the defeat.

Kenny Jackett’s side had not played since the 1 – 0 victory at Leyton Orient 11 days ago, following the postponement of their fixture at Luton Town last Saturday. However, the rest appeared not to have helped the Lions, who started today’s encounter less-than-eagerly.

The same could not be said of their supporters who, as would be expected of them, did not turn down the chance to goad and ridicule Oldham forward Hughes. Right or wrong, supporters from any club, not just Millwall, will seize such an opportunity to put an opposition player off his game – only thing is, Millwall supporters tend to be much better at it.

Yet there will have been few Lions fans that were surprised to see Hughes get his boot on the end of a cross from Latics full-back Neal Eardley – one of the first chances for either side.

And that is where the madness began. Hughes ran along the touchline in front of the baying South Londoners, gesturing wildly and almost revelling in the abuse flying his way. Hardly the remorseful actions one would expect of a rehabilitated prisoner, but hey-ho. One-nil to Oldham.

Now, without giving away too much of the bizarre story that was yet to unfold, note that Hughes received no punishment for his actions here. Remember that.

Suddenly, Mr. Friend sprang into life. Jay Simpson lost the ball after a foray down the Lions’ right flank and, as he chased back, brushed Latics winger Charlie Taylor. Booking number one of the day handed to the 18 year-old loanee from Arsenal.

Minutes later, the same teenager would be receiving booking number two. A long ball forward from Lions skipper Paul Robinson found Simpson on the right-hand side, where he outpaced the Oldham defence to slot brilliantly past goalkeeper Mark Crossley, himself a former Den loanee.

Running towards Millwall fans in the lower tier, Mr. Friend began to twitch. As the ecstatic youngster celebrated his first home goal, the whistle blew. The second yellow card, followed by the first red – the eighth shown in twenty games by this particular official.

More anger, more abuse. Suddenly the referee had inflamed an already-tense atmosphere at The Den through one crucial misjudgement. Kevin Friend deemed the actions of Jay Simpson more likely to risk the safety of supporters than those of Lee Hughes. And that, as they say, was that.

More bookings followed. Lions midfielder Ali Fuseini, who continued to grow in maturity throughout, was carded for a simple shove on Latics left-back Neal Trotman. Booking number three.

With the atmosphere at fever-pitch, Friend will have no-doubt been praying that the half-time whistle would come without further incident and that the waiting mob of stewards and police officers would see him safely into the haven of the officials’ room. Wrong.

A vicious tackle on Danny Senda by Eardley initially went unpunished, as Friend played advantage, only to bring it back and award the Lions a free-kick to the left of the Latics area. Eardley was booked for his misdemeanour. Booking number four.

Dave Brammer, making his return to the Millwall line-up after a long-term injury, swung a quick ball into the area which resurgent centre-half Zak Whitbread headed past Crossley to send Lions fans into a frenzy and thus giving them a half-time lead.

The break appeared to defuse the feelings of the Lions fans, much to the joy of the officials, as the second-half began in relaxed circumstances, but for the constant abuse of Hughes.

The former £5million striker looked dangerous, squandering a close-range free header, as well as lashing a long-range shot wide of Lenny Pidgeley’s right-hand post. Millwall had chances too, with tireless striker Gary Alexander going close with a header before being booked for an innocuous looking slide on Trotman. Booking five. Not long after, Latic midfielder Neil Kilkenny was booked. Number six.

Minutes later, Mr. Friend decided that he wanted to start the festivities going again. It is Christmas, after all. A long ball into the Lions’ area bobbled around, before being cleared to the sound of the referee’s whistle – his outstretched arm pointing to the penalty spot. I don’t know what he gave the kick for, so I won’t speculate.

Lee Hughes slammed the chance past Pidgeley, before repeating his wild actions in front of the Millwall fans yet again. Sure enough, no booking – at least, not for Hughes. Lions goalkeeper Pidgeley was booked for daring to suggest that Hughes was inciting the Den faithful. Booking seven.

Deflated and a man short, the Lions’ resistance was gone. Not long afterwards, another Hughes strike, another set of wild ‘celebrations’. 3 – 2 to Oldham. A spectator entered the field unchallenged. The now less-brave Hughes and Friend dropped their heads and moved away.

Meanwhile, an assistant hailed Friend and gestured towards right-back Eardley who was promptly shown his second yellow card – the eighth of the game, for those keeping up – and the match’s second red. Again, I don’t know why, so I won’t guess.

The rest of the game reflected the farce that Friend and Hughes had turned it into. One of the villains made his quiet and rapid exit down The Den tunnel on 82 minutes, being replaced by Reuben Hazell.

A brief chance fell to Whitbread from the corner but, by this stage, it appeared the football match had taken the back-foot to the antics of Friend, who handed bookings to Will Hoskins, ineffectual in his last Lions’ appearance, and Marcus Bignot. Nine and ten, by the way.

After seven minutes of stoppage time, Friend and his assistants disappeared down the tunnel under a rain of coins and spit. The pantomime villains left the stage, leaving two teams of players to face the applause of the Millwall fans who, surely, were left to acknowledge that today, it just wasn’t about the football, thanks to two men in particular.

Just watched it and all I will say is if Jay Simpson gets booked for that celebration then surely the murderer should have been as well.

Neither of them deserve a booking but consistency would be nice.

Can't really see the penalty, so can't comment on that.

Nice to see the murderer running away (not the first time he's done that) and making sure he gets his mates to get rid of the bloke for him.

You starting to contradict yourself now. One minute you are saying he has no mates, then you are saying he needed his mates to protect him. Make your mind up.

Simpson was booked for leaving the pitch and into the crowd, a bookable offence. Has happened to latics players in the past, Chris Taylor (not Charlie ) when he scored his first goal. Dancing stupidly isn't a bookable offence, similar to when Cahill goes boxing the corner flag isn't a booking either.

Hughes was convicted for causing death whilst driving and leaving the scene of an accident, not murder.

Hawkesy. Give up mate.

Yes I've thought that and probably he has everyday since it happened.

I'm not defending his actions at all, far from it. But he has served his time and rightly or wrongly he's playing football again. Unfortunately he's at my club and I have mixed feelings about it. Although the board had numerous meetings and didn't go into this lightly, I personally think it was a PR disaster by the club.

Rumour is, that a few championship clubs are interested in him, and he'll probably go in the Jan window.

Someone gets in a car and ploughs into your family and kills them, then tell me it's not murder. :?

As for my posts being full of sh1t, i would comment about yours but i can't actually recall one of them.

The facts are, simpson was booked for a less inciting act than Hughes. Simpson celebrated with his own fans, hughes danced around, smiling and waving in front of the home fans. I agree Simpson should have been booked for what he did but consistency says so should Hughes. Even the commentator on that clip mentions that.

I a sure he has mates, never said he didn't. I have been told that one of his team mates turns away in disgust as he starts dancing around while being called a murderer.

As for the murderer / death by dangerous driving thing - look at my previous post.
