Rooney for me has still never delivered when it matters. He has the potential to be world class but doesn't do it consistently enough or shine when the pressure is on. What's his goal scoring record been like in the qualifying tournament, and for Man U in Champs League? Pretty poor from memory.
Gerrard has a great shot and is a great driving force in midfield. But he's a luxury, much like Ginola, Le Tissier, Hoddle. And the fact that Liverpool have rarely been serious title contenders whilst he's been playing speaks volumes. A midfielder needs to do more than what Gerrard offers. Not "world class" for me.
Terry = over-rated. Good but not great. Rate Rio higher myself and he's not "world class" either.
Next manager needs to do what Van Basten did. Too many pretty boys in the team think they own a spot in the national squad. Get rid of the fancy dans with more money than bottle (Lampard, A Cole) and bring in some players hungry to succeed for their country.
And bring in a manager with the backbone to pick a team and structure and stick with it through criticism. McClaren's been reading football365 too much.

World class players include- Gerrard, Terry, Lampard (even though i don't rate him highly), Rooney, J.Cole, A. Cole, Owen etc. enough quality to qualify but not enough to challenge for crowns

England are paying the price for total failure to manage the game over the years.
The club game is a mega rich league awash with tv funds and billionaire overseas owners. All the money has gone into recruiting the best ( and the worst ) from around the world. While precious little has gone into junior development and coaching in the country. People are screaming for reduction in overseas players in the EPL, imagine the standard with out them. English developed players ares simply miles behind the rest in terms of technique, tactics and flexibility.
On the international front the selection of McLoser was a joke from day one, he simply is out of his depth. Meanwhile the multi-million pound players have played with zero pride and commitment. McLaren must be go and a serious recruitment program implemented to resurect the mess. His ineptitude merely made England play even worse than they are.
Reality is that most of the English team are not World class and come unstuck playing the better world team.
Lets hope this serves to wake up those running the game, but being English nothing will happen. As for the fans who booed them off, don't worry next week you can go back to watch an EPL game and watch the world best player ( will virtually no English players). Reality is most English fans would rather see their club side win the EPL with no English players then England win world cup.
