I'm fairly sure I saw a 'Gabriele RIP' banner at the Real Madrid game last night.

i wouldn't be surprised, Real's ultras are friends with ours. but when was the match?? must have made the banner pretty quick. Other Serie A clubs took thiers down as a sign of respect to Sandri.

prob the best opinion i read about the whole incident. from a Lazio forum.
I think this incident and the reactions to it simply expose what has been going on for a long time between the Ultras and the police. There are two sides here, it is clearly not just the Ultras to blame for it. (Although they are by no means excused from fault.) We saw what happened in Catania earlier this year and many of us thought about how these hooligans needed to be cracked down on. I'm not trying to marginalize the death of Filippo Raciti, but now we can see this goes both ways. The police and their often heavy-handed tactics can be just as dangerous as the Ultras themselves. I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone else say this, but who uses guns with live ammunition to break up a bunch of guys in a fistfight? Ultras culture and hooliganism in Italy needs to be reformed, but so does police handling of it. Right now the two feed into each other and we can quite clearly see the tragic results.

The two groups shouldn't have been fighting, of course, but I don't see how that can justify what has happened here today. Some of the logic that goes through the brains of people here astounds me, honestly.

Even if fans do brawl and start trouble, there is no reason someone should die.

my opinion, copy + paste

- It was NOT a planned meet up. Lazio ultras were on their way to Milan when they saw a small group of Juve fans (not the whole ultra group) and attacked them.

-The cops have no idea how to manage situations over there and always act more like an army at war rather than keeping the peace.

-Gabriele was one of Rome's top DJs and mates with most of the Lazio team and staff. Particularly Lorenzo de Silvestri, they were close mates.

-Atalanta, Milan and Roma - three of our greatest rivals joined with us in taking down banners and attacking la polizia. That tells you who the real enemy is in Italy.

-THIS IS NOT A FOOTBALL PROBLEM BUT MORE OF A PROBLEM WITH ITALIAN SOCIETY. and delfino, ignore the fuckheads giving shit to Italian football because they have no idea/ the real issue is the poor bloke who died supporting the best football club in the world and having his whole life taken away from him. as well as the behaviour of the police.

Why not in the air?
Bit like the warning shot the policeman got last season.

'I am sure I fired into the air as a warning. I know what I did, I wanted to break up the altercation. I can't have hit him, I can't, I can't,' he said.

from an interview with the cop
